Chapter 57

"Agh…where am I?" Gipsy groaned, trying to sit up.

"Hey, don't get up," a familiar, warm voice told her, "You've been through a lot,"

Gipsy's golden eyes fluttered open to see Raleigh and Yancy sitting on the edge of the bed, both of them in civilian clothes.

"Raleigh…Yancy…" she started, "my brothers…my boys…"

Yancy put a hand on Gipsy's uninjured shoulder, smiling gently.

"Hey Gips…we're home," he told her.

"For good?" Gipsy asked wearily.

Yancy nodded, giving a short laugh.

"I'm home for good now," Yancy promised, rubbing Gipsy's pale hand with a thumb.

"You closed the Breach for good, Gips," Raleigh told her, "All of you did,"

"Where's everybody at?" Gipsy yawned.

"Out and about," Yancy told her, "Leatherback's with Otachi and the baby…"

"She had the kid?!"

"Born the moment you guys closed the Breach," Raleigh said, "It's a girl…and it looks uncannily like Otachi,"

Gipsy closed an eye.

"Human or…"

"Why don't you see for yourself, Huntress!" Otachi's voice called, happier than the last time Gipsy had heard it.

Raleigh and Yancy helped Gipsy out of the bed, sitting her in a wheelchair before wheeling her over to Otachi's side. The female Kaiju and her counterpart were both beaming at the tiny form in Otachi's pale arms. Gipsy's gaze locked onto the child with curiousity.

The baby looked…human…for all definitions of the word. The only thing that defined the child as different was the iron grey tuft of hair and the slightly luminescent green eyes, a mixture of Otachi's yellow and Leatherback's blue.

"What is her name?" Gipsy asked, looking at the tired mother and her tiny child.

Otachi closed her eyes before answering.

"Katana," she said finally, "Her name is Katana…but we're going to call her Kat for short and around other humans,"

"She's…beautiful, Otachi," Gipsy said, a faint smile painting her lips right as the door banged open.

"There y' are! You're awake!" Striker yelled, rushing into the room and clasping Gipsy's hands in his own, "God, I thought I lost ya, Gips,"

"Striker had to be pried from your side with a blowtorch," Yancy deadpanned, "He wouldn't leave you,""

"An' for good reason," Striker growled, "I never seen ya so pale an' so still before,"

"What about everyone else…the Jaegers and…" Gipsy asked, looking at Yancy.

"They're finally at rest," he told her, "They still have the choice to come back…or the become part of the Grand Army and keep fighting battles. And as for the Category V…"

He gave a bittersweet smile.

"He's at rest too, at peace and free from all the torment he suffered. With his sacrifice, he's earned it and El was happy to give it to him,"

"Everyone's safe and happy," Gipsy murmured, "For once…I'm at peace too,"

"Well…not everyone's going to be sitting around..." Yancy grinned, "We've still got a wedding to put on. Right Rals?"

Raleigh turned a faint shade of scarlet.

"I'm waiting until Gipsy get better," he said, "After all, Gips is the Maid of Honor,"

"And that should be a few days," Gipsy replied, "Even now I'm feeling a whole lot better than before,"

"We'll be waiting," Raleigh grinned, ruffling Gipsy's hair…

And Gipsy promptly kicked him in the shin.

"Quit messing with my hair!" she snapped.

"You look beautiful," Gipsy breathed, looking at her radiant Pilot.

Mako gave a soft smile, turning around in her snowy-white kimono as Jazmine put the last cherry-blossom pin in Mako's short black hair.

"You do too, Gipsy," Mako said, smoothing a wrinkle in the Jaeger's gunmetal blue dress, "It suits you,"

"And it shows off your call-sign," Tacit said, looking at the winged star emblem above Gipsy's heart.

"I just wish it wasn't so dam…"

"Gipsy…" Mako warned.

"…Dang cold," Gipsy muttered, "There, happy?"

"Very,"

"Are you ladies ready?" came Stacker's deep baritone as he walked into the room.

"We are," Gipsy said, nodding to Tacit and Jazmine, "We'll let you and Mako talk for a bit…while we go make sure those boys are good to go,"

Mako watched them leave and her adopted father come in.

"I never thought I'd get to see this day," he murmured softly, brushing a blue streak away from Mako's face, "I thought the cancer would take me…"

"It ended up taking you away from me," Mako muttered, bowing her head, "But that doesn't matter…I have you back now,"

"And now I have to give you away," Stacker sighed.

Mako looked up at him and Stacker gave a slight smile.

"You'll always be my little Blue Girl with the little red shoe," he told her, kissing her forehead, "And if I have to give you away…I'm glad it's to Mr. Beckett,"

"You'll always be my sensei," Mako replied, burying her head in Stacker's shoulder as he pulled her close.

Raleigh fidgeted at the altar, trying to straighten his tie only for Yancy to elbow him.

"You look fine," the older Beckett said, "Just calm down!"

"Easy for you to say," Raleigh growled, "You're not going to tie the knot in a few minutes,"

"No…but I get to watch you do it,"

Suddenly the doors opened and Raleigh watched as Gipsy came in, holding Striker's hand while Jazmine and Tendo followed. The wedding party stopped and stood on their respective sides…and the doors opened once again, letting Matt and Lauren come out, Lauren being very deliberate in dropping every petal while Matt yanked on her arm…trying to get her to go faster.

"Remember that time one of our aunts got married and wanted you to be the ring-bearer?" Yancy teased, "We couldn't get you out of that suit fast enough,"

"Something that still hasn't changed," Raleigh muttered.

He wanted to add something else…

But all other thoughts were wiped from his mind as Mako came down the aisle, Stacker Pentecost beside her.

The old Marshall and his adopted daughter got to the alter and Stacker presented Mako to Raleigh. He then shook Raleigh's hand before giving Mako a gentle kiss on the head and going to his seat.

Both bride and bridegroom then turned to the alter at the minister who smiled warmly at them and began the ceremony.

It wasn't long as wedding's go…and pretty uneventful…

Unless you count Matt dropping the rings and having them almost go into the air vents…but other than that it went without a hitch.

The minister turned to the two lovers and issued his final announcement.

"I pronounce you, man and wife…you may now kiss the bride,"

"Finally!" Raleigh grinned, making Gipsy and many of the others laugh.

The Pilot then gently slid his hand behind his Co-Pilot, now wife's, head and brought her lips to his.

And the crowd burst into cheering.

"…and then they lived in peace for the rest of their days," a woman finished.

"But it can't end there!" a little girl whined.

"What about the Jaegers that didn't come back?!" a young boy demanded, "What about the Kaiju teenagers!?"

"And Striker and Gipsy!?" a third child, a girl, cried.

"Calm down, little ones!" the woman chuckled, her silvered, black hair gleaming in the light, "The Jaegers who didn't come back to the living world were finally at peace, they didn't have to fight anymore but it didn't mean they didn't get to…Brawler and Romeo certainly didn't stop fighting…even after they were married! El gave the Jaegers an extraordinary gift, allowing them to even look human except for their height. Their eyes for example, still shone at times, but they were more normal colors than the shining gold. They say though, that whenever there's a major Kaiju attack and even then only in times of greatest need, will they be revealed as Jaegers and not human. Even their call-signs disappeared to further their claim of being human,"

She picked up the youngest and pressed her forehead to the young girl's forehead.

"The Kaiju lived much like the Jaegers did, looking completely human…some even dying their hair so it didn't look grey anymore. Raiju and Scunner became very successful businessmen while Otachi and Leatherback settled down with their daughter, Katana. Otachi became a lawyer, God knows she liked to argue and was very good at it, while Leatherback became a doctor, due to his skill that he demonstrated on Cherno Alpha. They were very careful not to reveal themselves, but eventually they did to a handful of individuals close to them,"

She looked at the three children.

"Cherno and Natasha later married and have two children, Cherno is now an elementary teacher while Natasha is a mechanic. Crimson and Mei followed not too long after, they had one child and Crimson is a basketball coach for the local college while Mei started up a business dealing with the efforts to rehabilitate soldiers from the Kaiju Wars. Tacit and Coyote eventually married and had two children, Tacit is an artist and cook while Coyote went into the military alongside Stacker Pentecost,"

"What about Gipsy and Striker?" the boy asked.

"Oh those two?" the woman chuckled, "Romani, I wouldn't have picked you for asking that,"

"You go on and on about 'em and I wanna know!" the boy, Romani, huffed.

"Fine," the woman sighed, but gave a bright smile, "After years, and years of begging and asking…Gipsy finally said yes. Striker gave her a ring forged from his and her armor...something they both have to this day,"

"Did they have any kids?" the youngest girl asked.

"Sylph, of course they did!" the woman smiled, "They had three children, two girls and a boy, but like the others…Gipsy and Striker never told their children about their heritage. They wanted them to grow up without the fear of being different, but it was only a matter of time before they found out or they were forced to tell them. Now, up you get. To bed!"

She picked up the youngest, Sylph, and laid her in her bed. The woman then looked at the other two, Angel and Romani.

"Gipsy Danger and Striker Eureka loved their children very much…and they knew keeping the secret of their heritage away from them would be trouble,"

"Why?" the eldest, Angel, asked, her copper hair glinting in the light.

"Because…" the woman finished, "Who knew when the Jaeger part of them would wake up…and who knew if they would be able to go between forms just as easily as their parents,"

She ruffled Romani's dark black hair and straightened up.

"Now, it's time for you three to go to sleep," she said.

"Aw, Mom!" the three children whined.

"Ah, ah, no buts," the mother chastised, "You three have school tomorrow,"

"Not me!" little Sylph chirped, her black curls bouncing as she did.

"You got pre-school," Romani reminded her.

"Oh…wight," Sylph pouted, "But it's not weally school, Banshee,"

"I told you not to call me that!" Romani snapped, his voice pitching upwards as he did.

"But it fits you!"

"Sylph, Romani…" their mother warned, shaking a finger at them.

"Ah what are ya fightin' about now?"

"Daddy!" the three children beamed.

"Heh, don't mind me…jus' listenin' to y' three squabblin'," the father smirked, earning him a backhand to the chest from his wife before she turned to the three children.

"Bed. Now," the mother ordered, blue eyes seemingly spitting sparks.

"Yes Mom…" came three disappointed mumbles.

The mother and father both went into the room and gave the children good-night kisses and hugs.

"Mama?" Sylph asked, "Do you think the Jaegers will ever come back?"

"I don't know," the mother replied, "Like I said…it depends on if there's a Kaiju attack…and even then…"

"Only in a time of gweat need," Sylph sighed, "I know…"

The mother kissed Sylph's head.

"Goodnight little Huntress," the mother whispered as she pulled away and Sylph's eyes fluttered closed.

The parents walked away from the beds, the father holding the mother to his chest.

"Y're right," the father hummed, as he picked up his wife's hand, gently kissing the smooth blue and silver metal ring on her hand, "They're cute when they're asleep,"

Their mother nodded, leaning into her husband's frame as they walked out the door and into their room.

"I still can't get over yer blue eyes," he chuckled, flicking a tarnished bang away from his wife's forehead, "I'm used to seein' them…well…ya know…"

"Shh," she told him, "It's a gift and I'm happy this way,"

He gave another laugh and shook his head before changing the subject.

"What story did ya tell 'em this time?" he asked.

"The real one," the mother replied, "Although…they think I'm fibbing, like usual,"

"Ah, well…y' never know," he shrugged, "Maybe one day they'll understand why we did what we did,"

"I'm not looking forward to that," the mother warned, "They'll be so upset,"

"They'll be even more upset if y' told 'em right now," the father replied, his blue eyes flickering in warning.

The mother sighed, shaking her head as she pinched the bridge of her nose, her own azure gaze shut.

"I don't know, Striker," she finally said, "It just seems…wrong,"

"We'll figure it out, Gips," Striker Eureka hummed, pulling her close, "We always do. But right now…we've got a new life, let's make the most of it…"

"A new life," Gipsy Danger echoed, "And a new chance,"

So it's finished. Once again, thank you all for your kind words and your support for this story. And keep a look out...who knows, maybe they'll be a new story in the mix...something to do with the kids this time...and the king of all Kaiju...

But that's just silly...right? ;)
