You know what I don't get? Disclaimers. I obviously don't own TMNT, if I did, April'd be a turtle by now, and we would've done a whole episode based on the turtles' origin.
Three and a half year old Raph could not get to sleep. He rolled onto his left, then to his right, then onto his plastron, clutching a pillow around his head. No matter what he did he couldn't block out the annoying snoring of his roommate, Leo. Normally he'd throw the pillow at him, or punch him in the shoulder to get him to shut up, but the young turtle tot was just too tired. So he grabbed his pillow and blankie (which he luckily didn't have to share with Leo), and left the room to find a more quiet place to sleep. As he walked out into the hall, he could practically already hear Splinter telling him how he shouldn't sleep outside his room at night, because things came out at night that could hurt him, blah, blah, blah. Well, he wasn't going to get any sleep with Leo snoring like a chainsaw. He walked into what they'd been using as a family room. There wasn't much in there except for a tv and a few pillows, but Raph didn't mind; at least it was quiet. He plopped down on the floor, pulled his blankie over himself and went to sleep. He was having a great dream; he was swimming in a lake, and beating all of his brothers in a race, even Leo! Then, suddenly, he became trapped by seaweed. Itchy, scratchy seaweed. His eyes flew open, and he saw a pair of brown antennae, black beady eyes, and an ugly huge mandible. He screamed and jumped up, realizing that the scratchy seaweed in his dream was actually the feet of dozens of cockroaches crawling all over him. He panicked, waving his arms and shaking his legs to get all of the cockroaches off. Even after he got them all off, he could still feel their prickly legs all over him. Frightened, he ran to the one person..err, rat, that could give him comfort, who he knew would be in the dojo, meditating like he always would when the turtles were asleep. Despite the fact he was always trying to be the tough one, even at this young age, tears came freely from his eyes as he ran to the dojo. "Daddy Splinter! Daddy Splinter!" he cried as he threw himself into his father's lap. "Raphael? What is wrong, my son?" It was not like Raphael to cry so freely, and Sensei knew that something was wrong. "It was horrible! They were all over me!" His words could hardly be heard as he sobbed into his father's kimono. "Calm down, my son, and tell me what happened" said Splinter as he massaged his crying son's head with his thumb. "Well, I was tryin' to go to sleep, only I couldn't cause Leo was snorin', so I came down to the living room so I could get some sleep. Then, I had this really awesome dream, where I was beating everybody in a race, but then I woke up, and there were ugly brown bugs crawling all over me! They were everywhere!" Then Raph continued crying, and Splinter looked at him, first sadly, then his look hardened a bit saying, "Raphael, you know what I have told you about sleeping outside of your room. This is why I have this rule."
"I know, Daddy." Master Splinter sighed and softened his stare, he couldn't be too hard on the child, he was scared, after all. Picking up the little turtle tot, Splinter carried him off towards the kitchen, saying, "Come on. Let's get you a snack, and then I will put you back into bed with your brother." Raph sniffled, and replied, "Alright." As he was carried off into the kitchen.
At that, folks, is why I think Raph's scared of cockroaches. Big thanks out there for a bunch of people who write turtle tot stuff. I sort of borrowed a lot of stuff from you, like the turtles sharing rooms and stuff. So, how'd I do? Read and review, please and thank you's!
