A.N. Hey all! So I went today to the first day of Les Miserables (a very good movie, although the theatre production is better). I walked away explaining to my dad the connection between Enjolras and Grantaire, and my dad replied with, "So he's a Samwise Gamgee character, then?" And, well—this popped into my head. It's not my usual style, and I don't think it works, but oh well. Please review.

On the surface they are different.

One human, one hobbit.

One a bitter and cynical man; the other an eager and faithful teen

One has never left his home city; the other never wants to leave his home ever again

At first glance, these two have nothing in common

And yet, they are the same.

Both have faced insurmountable problems, faced dangerous quests

Both have fought the enemy; sometimes winning, sometimes losing

Both are loyal to a fault, and have more faith than an entire church

Neither was destined to be placed in danger

Neither volunteered to lead, only followed without complaint

Neither believes in their own mission—they only believe in the person leading

And in the end, neither is seen by that person until the very last moment

And in one case, that is too late
