One Day
Earth was such an interesting planet. There were few planets that were organic, and even fewer that held life. Everywhere Optimus looked, he saw signs of the Earth natives. Either a shrub or bug, there was life.
He currently stood outside of the base admiring the sunset. Here on Earth, the sunset streaked the sky with a multitude of pinks and oranges. Drastically different from a sunset on Cybertron. On his home planet, Optimus, or rather Orion, would sit with Megatronus and discuss anything and everything that came to mind while the sky melted from whites to blues, and finally to shades of purple.
Those had been the days of peace. The days where one had time to read for pleasure, and didn't have to watch their backs every second of the day. Optimus longed to go back in time and to be Orion Pax again. To spend long hours talking politics with Megatronus, his friend. But Megatronus was gone, and not coming back. Megatronus was lost somewhere in the council room in which Orion Pax explained his ideals to the High Council. And with Megatronus, went the last chance Cybertron had of changing for the better.
Optimus had tried countless times to persuade Megatron to stop, but his efforts had been fruitless; pleas falling upon deaf ears. He had risked almost everything to stop this war: his planet, his people. And now their war had been brought to the surface of Earth. Optimus would give his life to stop the war if it would, but he would not let the humans perish due to his races faults. One day he would stop this war, and hopefully make it back to Cybertron. But for the time being he would do everything in his power to protect Earth and its inhabitants, for he had become rather fond of the humans. He even believed that Ratchet was warming up to the fleshy species. A smile crept on to his face at the thought.
The children that spent most of their free time at the base had been good for the Autobots. They brought an air of happiness to the base that lifted everyone's spirits. They also reminded Optimus of what they all were fighting for: for peace, for the innocent. They also gave the Autobots a new perspective; especially Miko whose world was unique and beautiful in its own way.
But one thing that Jack had said surprised Optimus. He said that when he encountered Orion Pax, Orion was different. He said that Orion was. . . innocent. Jack said that when he looked in his eyes he didn't see the cynicism that now lived in Optimus's eyes. And there was no longer the great weight of the burdens Optimus had had to bare on his shoulders. It gave Optimus hope. Hope for a new generation that could be innocent and not be able to fathom the horrors they saw today. A new generation whose first instinct was to deny that a cybertronian could kill another just over differences in opinion. One day Optimus's dream would be a reality; hopefully one he would live to see.
Optimus started to head back to the base with a content smile on his face, and his head held high, for where there was hope, there was a possibility for one day to become today.
Just as he was about to enter the base, Optimus spotted a bird's nest where a chick was poised to fly. And with two flaps of its wings, a new generation took flight.
