This was supposed to be in 'Moments Like This'. But it just wasn't in Luffy's nature, and I couldn't post it as Luffy without risking some serious OOC-ness so here we have Sanji instead. This also is nothing but an excuse for some angst, I'm heartless I know but I know you love it. VIOLENCE WARNING! Don't be offended. Just a random moment while Zoro is caught by the marines, hurt and the crew comes after him. Isn't from the series, set maybe after the Skypia Arc?
"You have no idea who you just went after do you?" One part of Sanji's mind is vaguely pleased that his voice comes out so strong, not shaking and completely even, void of the hot surging fury he feels. That one part of his brain doesn't register how Usopp takes a step back from him. "You don't know who he is, do you?"
"S-straw Hat Pirate Roronoa Zoro, worth 60000 Berries."
Sanji decides he doesn't mind the sound of bones bracking under the pressure he is giving them. Because this man may be whimpering but Zoro is bleeding. And he knows for a fact that the green headed idiot would have never given his enemies the satisfaction of hearing him scream.
"You're wrong." Sanji whispers softly, dangerously.
"Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zoro!"
"Wrong." The bones snap but that's okay because according to Chopper there are two hundred and six bones in the human body and by that count Sanji still has two hundred and four bones to go.
"D-demon hunter Roronoa Zoro!" The marine gasps before Sanji's foot comes down on his shoulder, subjecting him to another unpleasant and painful pressure.
Sanji feels no joy in purposing inflicting pain to others for no reason more than to purposely inflict pain; torturing is something he's never been for.
But this is different. He's once heard Zoro telling Chopper that revenge is never a good motive to fight for, but Sanji says screw that because since when was the idiot marimo ever right about anything? What if blood red revenge blurs his mind that the only thing he can see is enemy and non-enemy and there are only six non-enemies and the rest are all worthless trash that need to die regardless of whether they actually took part or not because even if they didn't they were standing there, knowing and probably laughing?
"Wrong," Sanji grits his teeth and there is true rage flickering in that single syllable because Sanji can't forget the bloodied mess they've left him in(and because Sanji's not sure which side the 'they' is, they should have never let the direction-blind idiot go off on his own for supplies no matter how less injured he'd been in comparison).
Yet despite every single last gut screaming for blood, he doesn't kill the marine. Instead, Sanji slams him into the wall by the collar and leans in closer. Because Sanji needs this man to see and remember the dark promise that is burning in his eyes, the ruthlessness he has no problem lowering himself to should anyone do the same to his nakama. Most importantly, he needs this man alive, a witness, to report the happenings(Zoro not coming back and joking with each other about their friend's whereabouts for one whole day before hearing the rumors, and then their blood stopping cold), the battle(that wasn't really a battle because even a god damn marine base didn't stand a chance when Luffy found his first mate and hell broke loose), the rage(the pain, the misery) and the warning Sanji hisses of exactly who the hell Roronoa Zoro is.
"He's ours."
