A/N: So the Splash episode cut my heart in two for I really believed that they would be one of the only ones to make it out alive. It was very poetic and meaningful but heartbreaking at the same time. Very brave of Chloe, not sure if I'd have the courage to do the same.
Disclaimer: Harper's Island belongs to CBS.
Chloe watched in horror as John Wakefield killed her love, her confidant, her fiancé… The look in Cal's eyes of pure sadness wasn't directed at the fact that he was dying, no, but that Chloe would live her life alone, if she were to live at all.
He loved her so much and they were going to get married, have children, and have a life together. Although Wakefield's knife cut through him piercingly, the pain was nothing compared to the pain he felt in Chloe's screams. But those screams did not faze Wakefield for one second as he removed the blade and watched his most recent victim fall into the river.
He looked at the girl and almost felt a twinge of sadness but what use was it feeling sorry for someone who would soon be dead anyway? She was next and she knew it. But could she die by the same hand that killed her Cal? She couldn't let that happen.
Chloe looked left and knew she could make it over to the other side of the bridge, but to what point and purpose? A life without Cal was no life at all. Surviving this ordeal would hold no meaning without him by her side, his beautiful gesture of love on her ring finger.
A faint flicker of an idea came to her when Wakefield narrowed his eyes at her and waved her over with the bloody knife. Cal's blood.
Without Cal, she was nothing. He had made her everything she was. He made her a good person, making her get out of the boat so as to keep Madison alive. He was her knight in shining armor.
Oh, how that knife shone with his blood…
She couldn't subject herself to the evil of this man. She wouldn't go with a fight. She would go willingly.
Perhaps they could be together after all.
"You can't have me." She told the poor excuse of a man in front of her.
Slowly, her hands lost contact with the bridge. It was so easy. She felt completely weightless as gravity carried her away from Harper's Island and to her love.
She didn't feel anything, just a strange peace in knowing she would soon see Cal again. And then blackness took over.
But not for long. Soon, she saw the most beautiful sight: Cal and all of their friends who had already passed on waiting for her.
"Chloe, darling… I don't understand." He spoke to her, clearly pained at her arrival.
She held him tight, small tears escaping her eyes. "I'm yours. I couldn't let him take me."
His eyes flashed with understanding. "You mean you… but, why? You could have gotten away!"
"I'd follow you anywhere. I love you, Cal." She said before kissing him.
"I love you, too. Chloe…"
"Yes?"
"Welcome to Paradise."
And it was Paradise that they found in each others' arms.
