Disclaimer: If this were mine, I'd only dine, On cakes and wine, Not pay a fine. Hmm, not my best rhyming disclaimer, but it gets the point across.

Mourning

--

Snow around me.

I don't feel the cold.

Whiteness covers brown.

I cannot erase the black.

--

My eyes burn

With unshed tears

Vying for release.

I cannot hold them back.

--

To lose the one you love

Is the hardest weight to bear.

It is heavy on my heart.

I cannot unlock this chain.

--

The road ahead is long,

Far further than

What can be seen.

I cannot leave behind this pain.

--

My mother cries beside me.

I did this to her.

My love in exchange for hers.

I cannot see her face.

--

Below me rests the better man.

How many times did he,

Sacrifice himself for me?

I cannot take his place.

A/N: Heavy on the angst side I know, but I was watching Jonathan's funeral and I couldn't help but wonder what Clark must have felt as he looked down at the coffin. He is a character that strives to be normal even if it's in his own way, so I choose to do the more traditional rhyming but with a twist. You know me, always paying more attention to the characters than to the story. What can I say, mediocre writing and sappy music inspires me. I'm thinking of adding Martha's thoughts at the funeral as well. What do you think, do or not do?
