The case had been a long one, and now they stood at its end. Two feuding lovers had turned themselves each into serial killers to seek revenge on the other over the course of three years.

Here, it had ended, with a heartfelt exchange of bullets to the chest.

Eames stood over the scene, shaking her head. "Flames come and go, but some fires burn forever," she muttered.

They exchanged a glance. As their eyes locked, he knew that her words, though a negative comment on the case, were meant as a positive reminder to him.
