How could anyone say no to Sirius Black? When he turned on the charm, refusing him was impossible for most everyone, even the teachers. When he is one of the only friends you have ever had in your entire life, one of the only people to ever accept you for who you are, it is difficult to ever say or do anything to deny him. The angelic face with the sinful lips, his laughing eyes, the silky black hair… If you happen to be a shy, slightly awkward teenaged boy whose most secret fantasy shows up in the middle of the night, saying no is just about the last thing you could possibly do.

It doesn't matter that it hurts, not so much physically as emotionally, and it doesn't even matter that you know for certain you will be left with regret and sadness, it only matters that he is there. Your stomach aches and your heart breaks the next day when he once again ignores you to favor one of his many female admirers with attention. Yet it doesn't even cause you to bat an eye when he smiles at you the next night in the dark, asking silently for things you cannot seem to deny him.

Sometimes, you retain enough of yourself to consider speaking about it, breaking the silence that stretches between you. Before you can think to say something, to even question what happens in the shadows behind closed curtains, he somehow knows what you are about to do. He senses the uncertainty and moves in for the kill. You never get more than a word or two out before you are completely undone listening to his whispered, heartfelt lies.

Sometimes, you wonder if you ever had a chance. Most of the time though, you realize you never did.
