It'd been a day of pure delight for the whole colony, especially for the king and queen. It'd been a long awaited day, and it was better than anyone had imagined. The birth of a new monarch. The birth of the next princess.

Both Flik and Atta were overjoyed. They'd been wanting a child for so long, but they were never really ready until now. And they weren't getting any younger, so it was time to be the parents they'd always wanted to be. They had a beautiful baby girl who resembled her mother so closely, with bright blue eyes, lavender skin, and clear little wings on her back. One look at her and Flik knew she was destined to be as kind and beautiful as her mother. He even knew immediately what her name would be.

Princess Aurelia.

The council had set up a little nursery right next to their bedroom chamber. It was in the old room that was once Atta's nursery when she was a pupa, after being cleaned, of course. A few fluorescent mushrooms provided light, and a crib made from the finest tree bark with a small leaf blanket.

Aurelia had been placed in the cozy crib relatively early, since she needed all the rest she could get. She was actually quite peaceful on her first night, and only woke up crying once, in which Flik quickly took care of it.

Everyone went to bed that night as happy as ever, knowing this was the beginning of a new era for the colony. A new princess, next in line for the throne, who would take over as queen when the time came. Yes, everyone was excited for the royal family.

Well, not everyone.

Princess Dot, Atta's younger sister, wasn't too happy with being replaced in line for the crown. She didn't even know that it would happen this way. She thought that Atta's daughter would take over after her own reign. But it was only today that she learned she wasn't even going to have the chance to be queen. She was to remain crown princess until Aurelia was old enough to take that from her as well.

She had to fake a smile in front of everyone else, especially Flik and Atta. After all, it was the birth of her niece and everyone expected her to be happy about it.

What everyone else saw when they looked at Aurelia was a beautiful, radiant pupa. Their future queen. The new monarch.

But Dot looked at her and saw a thief. An obstacle in her way. A pest that must be disposed of...quickly.

Around midnight, Dot was walking aimlessly through the tunnels of the anthill, trying to shake these bad thoughts out of her mind. But no matter what, she couldn't help feeling..anger and hatred toward her niece, and her sister for even doing this to her.

She then stopped when seeing she was right in front of the Queen's bedroom chamber. And right next to it was the nursery. She glanced around before carefully pushing aside the leaf, peeking over at the sleeping pupa.

She quietly walked over to the crib, staring down at Aurelia with a blank face. She wanted to be happy. She really did.

But she also wanted the crown. She wanted respect, and power. And that was all taken away thanks to the new princess. Dot sighed, "Why you..? Why do you get to be queen next just for being born?"

Aurelia shifted a bit in her sleep, but thankfully didn't awaken.

Dot shook her head and left the nursery, never wanting to lay eyes upon that pupa again.
