I'm back, baby! Sorry I was gone for 3 months, I fell into a time machine right after finishing my last fic and it took me 3 months into the future…. Okay, obviously I'm lying. Truth is that I tried to write a whole screenplay and… it's taking longer than I was expecting. So I've decided to take a break from it and finally write a new Chipmunk fanfic. This is going to be a short and simple one so don't expect 27 chapters.

By the way, ABTTCF is its own thing and won't be canon to my other fics. As things are now, the Chipmunks and Chipettes are still young teens, the world is mostly like the 80s cartoon except it takes place now but elements from other canon are. For example, Principal Talbot is still around, and Miss Smith from ALVINNN is the homeroom teacher. The class is also mostly the same from ALVINNN too.

Chapter 1 - The Chipmunks get Schooled

It was a brisk morning in Spring. Los Angeles was as lively as ever. David Seville looked onward at the waking suburbs from his porch with a mug of coffee in hand. He saw the neighbors mowing lawns, plenty of cars were driving by too. Dave took a deep breath and drank his coffee as he walked over to the mailbox. It was still the usual bills he had to pay and the fanmail for his sons. But then he noticed a large package nearby. "Oh good, it's here" Dave muttered to himself. He picked it up and started to head back.

But then a boy on a bicycle came speeding by. "Morning, Mr. Seville!" the boy yelled as he threw some newspaper at Dave and continued on his way. Dave didn't have enough time to react and the paper hit his face and landed on the package. He rolled his eyes and sighed.

Simon was reading a book on the couch when Dave entered again. "Oh Simon!" Dave called out, "Look what just came in the mail!"

The blue chipmunk eyes lit up once he saw the package. "Stupendous!" Simon cheered. Dave set the box on the table and Simon was quick to open it. "The Crashcup Mockup Mili-Lab!" Simon cheered. Simon took a metal box out and pressed the red button, opening up into a portable laboratory. "Now I can conduct experiments wherever I go!" the bespectacled teen smiled.

"Anywhere but school" Dave noted, "You can use it later this afternoon, but for now I want you to get ready"

Simon let out a sigh, "Yes, Dave…" He then folded it back into a box and put it away.

Then a delicious scent caught Dave's nose, which he knew meant only one thing. He walked into the kitchen and found his other son, Theodore adding some final touches on the waffles. "This… and a little bit of this" Theodore muttered as he poured syrup, added berries, and sprayed some whip cream. Dave then began to notice that Theodore's plate had a lot more on it than the other.

"Theodore, what did I tell you about adding too much on your plate?" Dave asked.

"Oh um… you said that I shouldn't because I wouldn't be able to finish it" Theodore somberly answered.

"Exactly, so I think that's enough" Dave took a couple of plates and walked over to the dining table while his son did the same. Once Dave placed them down, a thought crossed his mind. "Say, Theodore. What is Alvin up to?" the man asked, "I haven't seen him all morning"

"He told me he was taking a quick nap," Theodore answered.

"And how long has it been?" Dave raised an eyebrow.

"15 minutes," Theodore answered again.

Dave groaned and went upstairs. Once he got to the boys' room, unsurprisingly Alvin was still sleeping. Dave did not hesitate to turn on the lights, which caused the teen to moan.

"Theodore, I said 5 more minutes" the boy whined.

"Alvin, the school bus is coming in 10 minutes" Dave replied.

"Then tell it to get here in 15 minutes" Alvin cried.

Dave went over and pulled off the blanket. "We're not playing this game, today. You need to get ready for school"

"Oh come on, so what if I miss a little school?" Alvin argued as he bregrugedly got dressed.

"For the last time, you need to learn as much as you can" Dave answered, "These are the most important years of your life. Everyone has to go to school."

"What do I need school for? I'm a famous rockstar" the red capped chipmunk whined.

"Because you're also a kid, now enough arguing" Dave commanded, "Please hurry, your breakfast is getting cold"

Once Dave left the room, Alvin let out another moan.

Later….

The boys were now completely ready for school as they waited outside for the school bus. Alvin folded his arms, "Who decided that school was so important that we have to have it every weekday?"

"Pretty much society as a whole" Simon stated blankly.

"That's because they had to go to school too" Alvin rebutted.

"But Alvin, without school what would we do all day?" Theodore asked.

"Why I don't know about you but I would play video games 7 hours straight" Alvin said enthusiastically, "Or I could binge watch every monster movie in existence!"

"Very productive, Alvin" Simon sarcastically remarked, "Totally more important than education"

Then out of nowhere, Eleanor tackled Theodore and gave him a tight hug, Good morning, Teddy!"

"Good… morning, Ellie…" Theodore struggled to greet his best friend.

Jeanette and Brittany soon came over as well. "Morning, guys" Jeanette greeted.

Brittany pulled on her little sister, "Eleanor, give the poor boy some space"

Eleanor flailed her arms, "Is it a crime to hug people?"

"Morning, ladies" Alvin greeted, "Another day, another non existent dollar"

"Uh, tell me about it" Brittany agreed, "The least school would be more exciting if we actually made money"

"Our payment is in the valuable knowledge we gain" Simon interjected. All Alvin and Brittany did was roll their eyes at him.

"Look, the bus is here!" Theodore pointed as the vehicle arrived.

"Oh Teddy, I have toys in my bag. Let's play with them on the bus" Eleanor asked.

During the bus ride, each teen was sitting next to their respective counterparts. Theodore was holding a bunny plush. "It's sure is a good day to have a picnic" Theodore voiced the doll.

Eleanor then took out a little raccoon plush, "Hey bunny, wanna play catch?"

"Sure, Mr. Raccoon" Theodore played along.

Eleanor then took out a scary alligator man action figure. "Muah ha ha!" Eleanor laughed in a deep voice, "I'm the evil Crocinator, and I have come to destroy this park with my laser beams!" Eleanor then pretended to shoot at the dolls.

"No!" Theodore chuckled.

Meanwhile, Alvin had his face pressed against the window. A prison bus stopped right next to the school bus, and Alvin saw a prisoner doing the same thing. Alvin greeted the crook with the nod, feeling his pain.

But the crook just scoffed at him. "Sucks to be you, kid", the prisoner mocked. The prison bus then drove off.

Alvin let out a loud moan. He then put his weight onto Brittany, interrupting her tweeting.

"Get off me, weirdo!" Brittany spat. She then pushed him off.

"Brittany, I'm bored" Alvin whined.

"And how's that my problem?" Brittany asked.

"Can I play with your apps?" Alvin pleaded.

"What, no! Play on your own phone!" the chipette refused.

"But I forgot to charge it last night" Alvin whined some more, "whatever, can we at least have our usual arguments"

Brittany's blood began to boil, "Oh my good, you're insufferable! You're the most annoying person in the world!..." The pink girl then continued to blabber off.

"Thanks Britt, you're a real pal" Alvin chuckled. Brittany then began choke him.

In front of them were their taller siblings. Simon rolled his eyes, knowing that the two of them were at it again. He decided to look over to Jeanette, who was writing in her journal.

"Man, Alvin seems to be complaining about school more lately" he spoke to the purple chipette, "he acts like he has better things to do than goofing around"

"I can sympathize with him, though" Jeanette replied, "Sometimes I wish we had school off so I can write more"

"Oh, are you writing a new one?" Simon asked, "What's it about?"

"Oh it's a really cool idea!" Jeanette cheered, "It's about a princess of Jupiter getting her thrown stolen from her sister, who has got mad with power. And it's really dramatic cause they used to be super close and now her sister is all evil and is even using forbidden magic powers. Oh, and she's supposed to marry this jerky prince but she's really in love with the royal scientist! Oh I'm revealing too much!" The tall chipette then giggled happily. She then let out a sigh, "I honestly can't wait until I'm an adult, where writing can just be job"

"I get you, but you still need to cross the bridge to get to the other side" Simon smiled, "Hey guess what? My Crashcup Mockup Mili-Lab just came!"

"Oh cool, now you can be like Clyde Crashcup himself!" Jeanette responded.

"Hopefully I'll be able to conduct something great for him to see when he comes to judge the science fair" the blue teen remarked, "Maybe he'll even make his new assistant!"

"Hey, why would you become an assistant when you already have one of your own" Jeanette pouted.

"I was only joking, Jeanette" Simon assured, "Dr. Crashcup already has Leonardo anyway"

The bus was getting close to their school as Jeanette gave her best friend a little playful smirk, "Good, because your going to need a great assistant if you want to impress your hero"

"But what about your story?" Simon asked.

Jeanette rolled her eyes, "I need more inspiration for the royal scientist character" She then got off the bus, leaving Simon speechless. The chipmunk couldn't help but grin widely. It seemed that everything was coming his way.

Later on, history class was about to start. All the students have been seated. Everyone became attentive except for Alvin, who continued to lay his head on the desk. "Good morning class" Miss Smith greeted.

"Good morning, Miss Smith" the class greeted.

The teacher then noticed Alvin. It wasn't unusual for him to act lazy during class, but he seemed really out of it today. She decided to give his desk a little tap. "Alvin, get up! It's time to learn history" she demanded.

Alvin sighed, "Fine Miss Smith, which dead people are we learning about today?"

"Funny that you asked that Alvin" Miss Smith began, "Because today I'm going to teach you about what's going on in the world right now. History in the making!" The class became more intrigued, arguable more than they ever had in history.

Alvin then whispered to Simon, "Oh good, I know everything about what's going on today. This unit will be a piece of cake!"

"Who's the current prime minister of Australia?" Simon asked.

"What's a prime minister?" his brother replied.

"Hey teach" Eleanor raised her hand, "Why are we learning about current history"

"Eleanor, didn't you hear" Cheesy interjected, "Everyone on Twitter is saying World War III is starting"

"No it's not!" Miss Smith corrected, "Cheesy, how many times do I have to tell you to not get your news from Twitter. What we're learning about today is a totally separate thing. Has anyone heard about COVID-19?"

"The robot revolution has begun?!" Kevin screamed.

"Oh my god, everyone be quiet!" Miss Smith yelled, "COVID-19 is a highly contagious Coronavirus that has recently surfaced in Wuhan, China. And apparently it's so contagious that the entire country has gone into lockdown to contain it" She then pulled down a chart, showing how far the virus has spread in Asia. China was completely covered and it seemed to have a large hold in Japan and Korea. Everyone gasped.

"Um, how bad is this virus" Jeanette shuttered.

"It's similar to the flu in symptoms, but is a lot more contagious. Symptoms of COVID-19 can vary from patient to patient" the teacher explained, "some people barely get anything worse than a cough, while others are not so lucky. As of now, it has death rate is about 3%"

"Only 3%?" Alvin scoffed, "You mean if I catch it, I got a 97% chance of living? What's the big deal?"

"3% may sound small, but it's actually really big for a virus that can spread like wildfire" the teacher boldly stated, "Take into account that only 0.1% of people died from the flu in 2018"

"As in 30 times more deadly" Simon noted.

"Oh dang" Alvin gulped.

"The reason for this is because this virus is totally new to humans, which means we have little knowledge about it. Let alone have a vaccine for it" Miss Smith continued.

"Okay, so there's a crazy new virus spreading in Asia" Alvin tried to say confidently, "All that stuff is happening on the other side of the pacific ocean. Just as long no one with coronavirus comes over here, we should be fine… right?"

"That's certainly true, but practically impossible to prevent" Miss Smith explained, "Even with all effort going on in the east to contain it, this will probably keep spreading until it reaches the whole world!"

"Oh god, how did this happen?!" Brittany whaled.

"I just looked it up" Amber waved her phone, "Apparently the virus is from bats, and some guy in Wuhan ate one in some soup that had it"

"I knew it!" Derek the bully shot out of his seat, "You dirty rodents cause nothing but trouble. Let's get rid of them before they spread it to us!"

"Hey we don't associate with those winged freaks!" Alvin shot back.

"Also bats aren't even related to rodents!" Simon proclaimed.

"I knew that" Alvin bluffed.

"It doesn't matter, you're both still plague spreading rats!" Derek yelled.

"Oh that's it!" Alvin shouted as he began to fight the bully.

All the students got out of their seats and started to watch the two of them tumble around. Even some of them were chanting, "Fight, fight, fight"

"Enough!" Miss Smith roared. Alvin and Derek then stopped fighting, knowing that the both of them were in big trouble. "First off, that's a rumor! No one is sure what really happened" Miss Smith claimed, "Second off, the last thing we need to do during these times is panic and riot. So act civilized!" Alvin and Derek then let go of each other and everyone sat back down. "Thank you" Miss Smith sighed with relief, "I know this news is very scary but actually you kids should be the least worried about dying from it. Young people seem pretty resilient against COVID-19, seeing how none of you have serious health problems, the chances of you dying is extremely unlikely"

The whole class had the biggest wave of relief hit them as all of their tensions were released. "Oh thank god I'm young and healthy" Theodore sighed as he finished his third cookie.

"That being said, people with poor health, particularly elderly people, don't have have as good as a chance in surviving" Miss Smith said gently, "That's why the only homework I'm assigning to you kids on this subject is to wash your hand for at least 20 seconds, don't touch your face, and stay out of large crowds so you don't spread the virus to anyone else. This is probably the most important thing you can do"

"Yes, Miss Smith" all the students nodded.

"Alright. Class dismissed. Except for Alvin and Derek, you have lunch detention" Miss concluded.

"Oh man" Alvin and Derek whined.

During lunch, while Alvin was stuck in detention, the rest of the gang were sitting together in the cafeteria. "Geez, that crayola virus sounds quite scary" Theodore said.

"Don't worry, Teddy" Eleanor patted the boy on the back, "Remember what Miss Smith said? Young people aren't likely to die from it"

"Heck, as far as we know, chipmunks can't even get the virus" Brittany stated.

"Can't say that for sure," Simon noted, "The last thing we want to do is contribute to the spread" He then noticed Eleanor was nuzzling against Theodore, so he took it upon himself to separate them, "That includes keeping our distance"

Theodore was kinda disappointed, but Eleanor got pretty angry as she shook her fist at him. "Hey, what's the big idea?!" she snarled.

"Eleanor, you shouldn't be suffocating Theo that much anyway" Brittany proclaimed, "Especially now there is a sickness spreading" Eleanor then gave her sister the stink eye.

"This is serious Eleanor" Jeanette interjected, "We must keep our distant"

"So hugging is now illegal?!" Eleanor snapped.

"Oh Ellie, we can still hug" Theodore assured, "But I think we should do it less often. How about we save the hugs forever"

Eleanor looked to the ground but still nodded.

"Oh Eleanor, I wish there was a better way" Simon comforted the short chipette. His eyes then lit up as he turned to Jeanette, "Wait, I just got an idea! For the science fair we should invent something that could prevent spreading!"

"Oh that's a wonderful idea" Jeanette sang, "Maybe if Dr. Crashcup likes it enough, he could show your invention to the whole world!"

"That would be amazing, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. We haven't even invented anything yet" Simon replied.

"What's the big deal with Dr. Crashcup anyway?" Brittany scoffed, "All he does is invent stuff that already exists"

Simon shook his head. "Oh Brittany, Brittany, Brittany. Don't you know why Dr. Crashcup is so brilliant?" the bespectacled teen asked, "He grew up alone with his family on an island, away from civilization. He knew nothing of the outside world. It wasn't until the day he invented the boat at 17 did he manage to escape. And somehow without growing up in modern society, he has managed to invent revolutionary gadgets!"

"But all his inventions have already been done" Eleanor pointed, "Like the car, the TV, and the telephone"

"Remember when he invented ice cream" Theodore exclaimed, "That was my favorite one."

"You don't get it, Eleanor" Simon rebutted, "Each of those things were thought up by separate people, but he thought all of those up on his own. Yes all of his inventions have been done, but he doesn't know that. Think what original inventions he could create! Think how it will change society!"

"But has he actually invented anything original yet?" Brittany asked.

"Um… no, but us in the science community are eager to see the day come" Simon scratched the back of his head, "Oh I can't wait to meet him"

"Well I know why you admire him" Jeanette assured her best friend.

Meanwhile in detention, Alvin and Derek were having the most aggressive staring contest while Miss Smith watched over by her desk. Suddenly the school bell rang, which meant that both lunch and their detention was over. Everyone else returned to class and sat back down. Though Alvin and Derek were still staring at each other. Miss noticed this and coughed. Alvin put up a finger. Both their eyes were beginning to water and neither of them were letting up. But finally Brittany forced Alvin to shut his eyes, ending it there. Derek mocked him from his seat.

"Thank you, Brittany" Miss Smith sighed.

"What the heck, Britt? I was going to win that!" Alvin angrily whispered.

"Hey, I'm helping you not land in detention for a second time" Brittany argued.

"Alright class, I know last class was a bit rough but we're going to continue normally" Miss Smith explained. But then Principal Talbot began to speak through the speakers.

"Excuse me Miss Smith, can you please come to my office?" he said formally.

Everyone was a little confused, usually Talbot didn't ask any of the teachers to come see him during class. "Everyone stay in your seats, I'll be back in a moment" Miss Smith explain, "Simon, as class president, I'm leaving you in charge"

The minute she left the room, everyone started to talk loudly and move around. "Hey I'm in charge, and I say we stay in our seats" Simon demanded. Unsurprisingly, he was ignored.

"Hey Derek!" Alvin cried as he got out of his seat, "I demand a rematch!"

Simon groaned, seeing how his own brother was not listening to him.

It didn't take long for Miss Smith to get to the principal office. She too, was confused as to why she was called upon, especially during class time.

"You wanted to see me, Principal Talbot" she greeted as he entered his office.

"Hello Miss Smith, I assume you have told the children about the virus?" Talbot asked.

"Yes sir, things got hectic at the end, but for the most part the students took it well" Miss Smith answered.

"Good" the principal nodded, "But there is still more to discuss"

"What do you mean?" Miss Smith asked.

After Miss Smith's short meeting, school continued on as normally, but she was strangely quiet. She didn't even say anything about Alvin and Derek's constant rock paper and scissor games. It wasn't long until the gang returned home.

"Hey, can we have dinner over at your place later?" Brittany asked.

"Yeah whatever, we should check to see how Dave feels about this virus thing" Alvin answered. Eleanor quickly gave Theodore another hug before heading home.

"Bye" the Chipettes waved as they returned home.

"See ya" the Chipmunks waved back. When the boys entered their home, they saw Dave reading the newspaper.

"Fellas" Dave beckoned, "Have you heard what's been going on in China?"

"Yeah Dave" Alvin was quick to answer, "Miss Smith told us all about the coronavirus"

"Well apparently their reports of it reaching Europe as well" Dave exclaimed, "I have to admit, this virus has me worried"

"It's fine Dave" Theodore said, "Miss Smith told us that that young people are pretty resilient to the virus"

"I know that, but I still don't want to catch it" Dave explained, "That's why for hear on, I want everyone to be more hygienic"

"No sweat, Dave" Alvin said nonchalantly, "We'll be cleaner than a rated G movie"

"By the way, I heard how you behaved today" Dave responded sternly.

"Hey, I was defending the honor of my species!" Alvin proclaimed, "Derek had the gull to blame us for this mess"

"You still shouldn't start fist fights" Simon argued.

"Whatever. Dave before you ground me, the girls want to come over for dinner" the red capped teen stated.

Dave thought for a moment before speaking "I guess it should be fine. I want to make sure Miss Miller knows everything too"

Later at dinner, the Millers indeed came over for dinner, and they were all sitting at the dinner table talking. "I tell you what, this virus does sound mighty concerning" the old woman said, "I feel bad for all those people catching it"

"Jeez, can we stop please stop talking about it" Alvin pleaded, "I've been hearing about it all day"

"You know Alvin you're right" Dave said, "We shouldn't worry too much. So Simon, how's your little set?"

"Oh it's great, Dave!" Simon answered, "It will make the science fair much easier"

"Say Dave, what's the news about our concert at the Staples Center?" Brittany asked eagerly. Everyone, especially her, were really looking forward to performing at the venue.

"Don't worry Brittany, it's still happening. In fact I'm hoping to perform a new song there" Dave answered. At that moment, his phone began to ring. "Sorry, I'll be right back" he said as he got up and answered the phone.

Miss Miller decided to lead the conversation, "So kids, how was school today besides history?"

"I'll admit, today wasn't actually that boring" Alvin responded.

"Oh my god, you were so annoying today" Brittany groaned.

"Hey, cut me some slack. You can't tell me that Derek's comments didn't offend you too" Alvin agured. But the two usual arguments quickly ended when they heard Dave return.

"Um guys…" Dave began to say, he seemed to struggle to get the words out, "School is closed for the month"

That's where we'll end it for now. Like I said, this is going to be a short story, so there will probably be 1 or 2 chapters left. Excuse me if this isn't as good as my last one, but I still think someone should make a story about this. I promise that I'll update soon, and after this I'll tell a more fun story. Hope to see you next time and please give my other fanfic a read if you haven't already (And watch out for my first one, it's not for kids)
