Gone are the Days of Boys

Gone are the days of boys
Fishing in the creek
Gone are the days of joys
Running in the stream

Now are the days of soldiers
Mustaches mockingly square
Now are the days of spies
And Adolf Hitler hair

Gone are the days of children
Make believe, pretend and play
Now are the days of saboteurs
Whistling work all day

Children speak as children
But Kommandants stamp their feet
Children throw tantrums and scream
But generals turn red as a beet

We are men at war
We dig through dirt and grime
So we can reach the rec hall and play
Ping pong in our spare time

There is no time for baking
Just do what we are told
As we take 'artistic liberties'
And make cakes that explode

Little children eat candy
They spend their pennies on gum
Our colonel negotiates for white bread
While we drink our rum

Yes, it's a long way from home
To the war in Germany
Such different lives are lead by men
And children, don't you agree?

a/n: yeesh, this is what you get when you lock me in a car for 2 hours, lol. I think graduating high school yesterday got me all nostalgic like or something.
