"...Breathe in... Breathe out... That's it, angel face."

Pit, who had just been pacing back and forth with a wild look in his eyes, finally settled at the doorstep of Magnus's home. Magnus took this as the signal to sit next to Pit—but not too close, he didn't want to make him feel cornered—and slowly he began to rub his hand against Pit's back. Magnus was quick to realize just how cold Pit's skin was.

"...C'mon, let's go inside."

"No."

Pit was hunched over and his face was impossible to see through his hair. Magnus persisted.

"You kidding me? Everything out here's frozen. You've gotta be cold."

Pit shook his head and a silence fell over the two of them. It was dark, but Magnus took notice of the violent tremors that shook through Pit's body. Magnus sighed.

"Wait here."

Magnus disappeared inside for a moment before coming out with a large, thin blanket.

"I know you don't want to, but at least use this while you're out here."

Magnus held the blanket out in front of Pit even though he knew he wouldn't take it. It was just to show him, to give him a chance to reject it. When Pit didn't say or do anything, Magnus took this as the signal to proceed and he lightly draped the blanket over Pit; it was big enough to cover his wings, and considering how tightly they were pressed against Pit's body they probably appreciated the slight hint of warmth the most.

"It's gonna be just fine... you're gonna be just fine..."

Magnus went back to applying the soothing sensation of his hand against Pit's back, and other than the occasional reaffirming words, things became silent once again. Minutes passed and Magnus finally noticed Pit had begun to cling the edges of the blanket around himself. Magnus stood and offered his hand to Pit.

"...Want to go inside now?"

Pit still said nothing, but this time he took Magnus's hand and allowed himself to be helped up, and the two headed inside.

Magnus sat at the edge of his bed, trying to decide whether he should get a few more hours of sleep before the sun rose, or just save himself the trouble and stay up all night. Before he could get far into this line of thinking, Pit settled down right next to him and leaned into his side, staring tiredly at the wall.

Neither of them said a word to each other for a few solid moments. When Magnus finally opened his mouth to speak, he was cut off by Pit muttering out a small and simple "thanks."

Magnus laughed and gave Pit a reassuring pat on the head.

"You don't have to say that every time, you know."
