(There is an important authors note at the end of this chapter!)

Levy went back to her home in Fairy Hills, greeting the townspeople on the way. She held the book that she treasured so much close to her chest. So many thoughts were racing through her mind, and she didn't know what to do anymore. Of course she wanted to help Lucy, but something just wasn't right. Levy wasn't comfortable with the feeling of trying to have feelings for someone else. At least, other than for the person she really had feelings for.

Walking up to her room, Levy opened the book once more. Ever since she had received the book, that's all she had been focusing on. It was a strange book, something she's rarely read before. It was the kind of book that always kept her guessing. She smiled softly, it was a true treasure to her.

Opening her door, she was met with all the scripts and other books among her surroundings. Erza had been telling her to throw some of them out, but how could she? Each book, had a certain story of its own. Levy glanced around, until her eyes fell on a large blue book. That was the book that Jet and Droy had given her after their first mission together.

Levy began to walk towards the large chair that was resting in a small corner of the apartment. She sat down, and opened the book once more.

Among those throughout the crowd, the only one that caught my attention, was her.

"Oh, Kenmeina Senshi," Levy whispered to herself, "Even you've found the one for you." She giggled. Throughout the book, Kenmeina had always been alone on his journey. From the forest of whispering willows, to the ocean of forgotten tears.

It wasn't long before Levy had already skipped far into the story's future.

She looked so beautiful, just as she did the day we met. However, when I called out to her, she did not respond. Instead, her smile froze. I suppose this is what people meant when they say, "They leave with a smile, with no regrets, no worries, and a loved one by their side."

A tear streamed down Levy's face. After all that, all they went through, and she died? Then again, the date on the top of the page was a long way from the first time they met. Its been almost sixty years since Kenmeina had gazed upon her in the marketplace of that small town. Levy wiped the tear before it could drop from her chin, and she smiled. Right at this moment, she witnessed the love of two people being born, and still living after one is gone.

The next few pages were of just simple days of traveling from town to town. Kemmeina remembering of his love, and keeping it to himself.

At last, this might be the end.

"No…" Levy whispered.

My hands are often shaky nowadays, I don't think I have much time left. I no longer have the energy to write about my day. However, I will keep my promise to her, and won't let it end here. This has been for my eyes only, but maybe this will be a joyous adventure for another.

There were only small notes of the weather.

I'm walking through this town. I admit it is beautiful, but the people aren't. The beauty of a town should reflect its people, but it seems this town is just an illusion; an illusion of beauty. There's a fellow walking around, anyone could plainly see he's not from around here. A tall guy, long hair. I feel like I've seen him before, but this time he is alone?

He keeps walking around in circles like some kind of confused compass. I seem to catch his attention, or rather, the book in my arms seems to catch his attention.

I fear this is it, as much as I want to just walk away, I stay still. He doesn't seem like the one to read books, but then again, never judge a book by its cover. I'm sure whoever is going to read this is very special.

Soon I will make my way back to my beloved one, Amai Sanzoku. Amai, you have granted me the best years of my life. Not only that, but you have stolen my heart, and ran away with it. Don't worry, I will catch up with you.

This is it. This has been a wonderful journey. I truly have no regrets. Now it's time to part ways.

Farewell.

Levy just stared in astonishment, it was over. The long journey of Kenmeina Senshi was over. She felt like crying, why was that? Many of the books that she read ended, but this one was different.

The once part that she made a connection with was, "An illusion of beauty", it reminded her of Okane, the way the beautiful town didn't capture the way of the people.

Soon Levy began to make another connection. "A tall guy, long hair?" She read aloud. "Gajeel?" But that can't be, after all the last date on this book is… She flipped a few pages back swiftly yet softly. "A few days ago?!" Her eyes began to widen, what just happened?

"The town, the book… Gajeel?" Her mind was buzzing with so many thoughts, her cheeks started getting rosy from all the confusion.

"This could just be some kind of coincidence." She told herself. "We just happen to be in a town that was like an illusion, Gajeel just happens to go missing, and just happens to have a book that describes him and the town." Even Levy couldn't deny all the facts, not to mention the date is exactly right.

A sentence rang in her mind, "I'm sure whoever is going to read this is very special."

Her face began to get even hotter, there's no way Gajeel would've known that, right? Unless that guy told him, and Gajeel still took the book anyways, then that would mean…

With all that was going on, Levy forgot to check the time. Whew, it was only a half hour till ten, that meant that Levy still had time to make it to the guild. And maybe even figure out this crazy mess.

"Lu-chan?" Levy called out into the empty guild. The fight that had broken out earlier could still be seen with all the broken furniture, mugs, plates, and barrels on the ground.

Suddenly, the blonde emerged from behind the curtain. "Levy-chan! You're right on time, come on!" Lucy hollered.

Once Levy finally made it backstage, she was surprised to find nobody there. Nothing but old crates and rope. For once, Levy was actually here earlier than her partner. Now was the perfect time to ask Lucy who it was this time.

"So, Lu-chan," she caught Lucy's attention, "Can you tell me who my partner is now?"

Lucy giggled and put her index finger in front of her lips. "Nope!"

"Come on, please!"

"Sorry Levy-chan, you'll just have to wait till he gets here."

Levy took a seat on the ground, with a very disappointed face.

Lucy noticed and felt a little guilty, but not enough to tell her who it was. "I'll give you a hint, he's very different from Freed."

"Hmm." Levy pondered the thought. "Everyone is pretty different from Freed." They both laughed, it was true though.

"Well this one isn't one I asked on my own."

"What do you mean?"

"Actually, I had someone ask for me. I'm sure if I asked, he would've just laughed and not have bothered."

"He sounds like a pain in the ass." Levy commented.

The fact that Lucy knew who it was made her laugh even harder. "Yup, that's how I would describe him too!" When she calmed down a bit, she continued. "But I think this should be interesting."

"Eh, why?"

The sound of the guild doors opening and closing were heard echoing through the guild. Soon, footsteps were heard afterwards.

Lucy's smile grew wider, as Levy's patience began to shrink.

Beyond the curtain, a small scarred exceed poked his head out. "There ya'll are."

"Lily?!" Levy exclaimed.

"Hey, Levy. Are you ready?" Lily responded.

"R-Ready?" She asked.

Suddenly, the curtain opened wider, revealing the true partner. His back was turned, but anyone could tell who it was by the his long black hair.

"Gajeel." Lily spoke sharply.

His head turned, just enough to catch a glimpse of those behind him. After a while, he turned around fully, now facing everybody. He still had that grumpy expression, it seems that Lily had dragged him here against his will. Soon, a smirk appeared on his face.

Levy felt her heart skip a beat.

"So I hear you're completely hopeless and need my help?" He said. Then his smirk disappeared. "Can't you manage anything without my help?"

That was it. That was the moment any nice about Gajeel went out the window. He has the audacity to show up and start making sarcastic remarks about them? No way.

"We could do just fine without you!" Levy yelled. "I can't believe Lucy actually asked someone like you to help. I thought you'd be too busy trying to get a piece of iron out of your teeth."

"I don't just eat ya know!" Gajeel yelled back. "I have a life!"

"Oh yeah? You could've fooled me!" She huffed and crossed her arms, looking away at him.

Mocking her, Gajeel did the same.

Lucy sighed. Was this really going to work? The thought had crossed her mind a couple of times, but now she wasn't so sure. She looked down at Lily, only to see his accomplished smile.

"Lily," she whispered, crouching down to his height. "Are you sure about this? I'm kind of having second thoughts."

He looked up at her, still smiling. "Don't worry, this is normal." He took a few steps forward to stop the two's arguing. "Ok you two, the sooner you get this done the sooner you can leave."

"Fine." They both muttered at once.

They each took a piece of paper from Lucy and stood in front of each other.

It seems like this was a school setting, judging by the lines.

"You need to work harder." Levy said sternly.

"You might need to speak up, I can't hear you from all the way up here!" Gajeel put his hand by his ear, gesturing that Levy was too far away.

Levy's eyes scanned the words quickly, that line isn't anywhere! "Gajeel, that's not in the script." She commented, trying to get past the short remark he made.

"It's not my fault your voice doesn't reach my ears." He turned away, but secretly smirked.

"Well maybe if you weren't such a giant iron idiot-" She began, but was cut off.

"Iron idiot?!" Gajeel exclaimed.

"Yeah!" She yelled back. "I knew you were stupid, I didn't know you were hard at hearing too!" She referred to him repeating what she had said earlier.

"I'm getting real tired of your sass!"

"Then leave!"

"I don't want to."

There was a moment of silence between them.

Gajeel had realized that he said too much and quickly shut himself up. He was about to pretend like it never happened. That is, if it wasn't for some snickers and giggles, that was heard a little bit off stage.

He snapped his head to the noise, and saw that Lucy and Lily both had their hands over their mouths. Their cheeks were puffed up and, it seemed like they were trying to keep their giggles to themselves but failed. Gajeel glared angrily. That shut them up real quick.

Levy felt her face getting hot, she hurriedly put her hands on her cheeks, feeling their warmth. Spinning around, she tried to gather her thoughts together. There was too much silence for her, it was driving her crazy!

"The book." She said quietly.

"What about it?" Gajeel wondered. He finally turned back, only to see her turned around.

"Where did you get it?"

"I, Uh, found it somewhere." He lied. "Nobody else wanted it, so I thought it'd be a waste to leave it there to rot."

"You lie." She said, a little louder.

Gajeel froze up. How did she know? "Uh, what do you mean?" A wave of guilt washed over him, with every second that she didn't respond. There's no way she could've found out, he didn't even tell Lily about it.

The silence was now even too much for him.

"Ok, yeah, I went looking for one." He finally said. She still had her back facing him, her head hanging low. Was she that mad that he had lied to her? "I just didn't want you looking so sad." He muttered that last part.

Gajeel crept up towards her, his boots making low tapping sounds on the hardwood floor. In one swift motion he spun her around, prepared to see her pain expression. Only to be met with a soft smile.

For a moment, he was confused. Why did she have that expression? It was weird, wasn't she mad? That alone was enough to make him take a step back and freeze. He had his mouth hanging open, not knowing what to say next.

Her smile getting bigger. So he really did go through the trouble to get her one. For a moment, she felt like her heart was going to explode. It wasn't much, but knowing it was from Gajeel, and he really did get it for her was enough to cry.

"You get so happy just for a bunch of paper?" Gajeel commented, ruining the moment. "I swear, it's the dumbest things that make you smile."

Levy was about to get mad again. She was about to lecture him about the importance and fundamental of books, but was stopped short.

"Then wait till you hear this." He moved over to her, and bent down to her eye level, placing his hand on her head, and moved his mouth near her ear.

Levy was already red from all the events that had been going on that night, now there was something else to add to the list.

"That old guy said that the one who was going to read that book was special." Gajeel whispered. "And he was right."

This time it was Levy who froze up. Her eyes were still wide with surprise, even after he had pulled away. She had almost completely forgotten that Lucy and Lily were just off stage.

Gajeel turned away from Levy and began to walk away.

"I'm tired, let's go Lily." He stated before walking right off stage with Lily following right behind him.

Once they were outside, the cool air hit them. It was still night time, the moon shined brightly in the sky, accompanied by the twinkling of the stars. However, they didn't seem to stand out like they did that one night. No matter, Gajeel was too tired to care.

Lily just kept smirking the whole way, glancing every so often at the red faced Gajeel.

"I'm so proud of you." Lily complimented Gajeel.

"Shut up!" Gajeel yelled at him, his face still red.

A while after those two had left the scene, Levy was still in shock. Standing as she was, back straight, hands to her side, her eyes wide, staring at nothing, and a very red face. For a moment, she had thought that this was some weird dream, and she was going to wake up at any moment, but something pulled her back down to reality.

"Oooooh Levy-chan!" Lucy teased. She had her hand over her mouth, with playful eyes, remembering the scene that just played out in front of her.

Levy snapped back and looked at Lucy. "Forget everything you just saw, Lu-chan! It's not like that!" Her cheeks were still rosy from the embarrassment, but she was slowly calming down.

"Forget everything?" Lucy asked. "That was perfect!"

"P-Perfect?" Levy stuttered. How could that whole mess up be perfect?

"It was so natural, and not scripted out. Maybe that was the problem. I tried to write a love story without knowing what it was like." She smiled once more, making Levy feel at ease. Lucy out her hands behind her back and began to walk off stage.

"Hurry, Levy-chan! Unless you're too love struck to move!" Lucy hollered before jogging away.

"Lu-chan!" Levy yelled as she ran after her.

The next day, Levy went to the guild as usual. She was kind of hoping for something exciting to happen, however, she was a bit disappointed. Gajeel didn't bother to come to the guild, in fact, not even Lily did either. It was strange, but a bit of a relief for Levy. She still wasn't over the incidents of the night before. Maybe Gajeel didn't show up because he regretted what he said?

Levy let out a sigh.

"What's the matter Levy?" Mirajane had asked her concerningly. She was at her usual place, behind the bar, watching everyone have a fun time. Well, except for Levy.

"Nothing, really." Levy replied reassuringly, smiling a bit. "It's just that, Jet and Droy aren't back from their job yet, so I guess I'm a little lonely." It was true. With all that had been going on, she just wanted to talk with her friends. However, they weren't around at the moment.

"If you really feel sad." Natsu interrupted. "Then you should eat!" He had a giant goofy grin on his face, that made Levy want to smile with him.

Gray pulled Natsu away. "Ya know, not everything can be solved with food." He said sternly.

"Oh yeah?" Natsu argued. "Well not everything can be solved by stripping either."

"What're you talking about?" Gray asked, and unconsciously took his shirt off.

Juvia started blush brightly with the sight of Gray. "Gray-sama!" She squealed, making Gray get embarrassed and look away.

Levy started laughing at the way everyone was acting. Soon, that frown of hers was gone, and replaced with a wondrous smile. It made everyone else stop what they were doing for a moment, and smile too.

Mirajane, who watched the whole scene, pulled out a few plates for lunch. "What about Lucy?"

Natsu sat down annoyingly. "She said she was too busy with something."

Levy and Mirajane smiled, knowing what that certain "something" was.

A few more incidents of fighting, stripping, eating, and yelling, went on. Nobody even remembered how it started, but no matter, they were having fun.

The guild doors opened, revealing a tall figure and an exceed. They slowly made their way to the rowdy table, keeping to themselves.

Natsu looked up and smirked mischievously. "Hey Gajeel, what're you looking for? A fight?"

Gajeel sat down, and Lily stood on the table.

"Nah," he replied, with a smirk. "I don't feel like kicking your ass today."

Natsu was about to yell something obnoxious before he was pushed across the room by Gray.

"Would you quit trying to pick fights with everybody!" Gray yelled.

Natsu ignored his comment, trying to get back on his feet.

Levy just giggled, it was times like this that she could forget all her worries like-

"Hey." Gajeel spoke.

Levy tensed up, remembering that Gajeel was next to her.

"Y-Yes?" She replied nervously.

Gajeel just stared at her, not knowing what to say, or how to even start.

Lily took this opportunity to help out. "How many times have you helped Lucy with that book?"

"Umm," she tried to remember all those times. "Only twice."

"Twice?" Lily asked. "Who were your partners then?"

"Loke, and Freed."

That was enough for Gajeel to connect the dots. That one night with Loke, not having any plans, her leaving that night to see Freed. All of that was just to help Lucy with her book?! He did all of that worrying for nothing. Not that he was really worried or anything. What an idiot he was!

Gajeel's hand clasped him mouth to hide his stupidity. This went unnoticed by Levy, who thought he was sick.

"Are you ok?" She looked right into his eyes with a worried expression.

It made his face redden a little. Quickly, he looked away, trying to dodge his eyes.

Lily just chuckled, knowing exactly what was going through his mind. "Don't worry about him, he's just an idiot."

"Well I could've told you that." Levy replied.

Gajeel turned back around. "Shut up!" He yelled, making Levy laugh a little.

The guild doors opened once more, to reveal a very tired Lucy.

She walked quickly to Levy, with a big smile on her face. In her hands were many loose papers, all with her handwriting on them.

"Levy-chan!" She held the papers in front of her face. "I'm almost done!"

"R-Really?"

"Well… no." Lucy confessed, smiling shyly. "I actually have a lot more to do, but I wanted to show you first!"

Lucy began revealing some of the pages, trying to find the one she was looking for.

"Here it is!" She said triumphantly, pulling out a single sheet of paper.

To my friend, Levy-chan, who went through some hardships to help me. You really helped me a lot. Thank you!

Levy was speechless.

"Tada!" Lucy sang. "I'm going to dedicate this book to you!"

"That's amazing!" Levy replied. "What's the name of the book?"

"Hmm," the blonde hummed. "I was thinking something like, 'The Right Partner'. It's still under construction, but how's that for now?"

Gajeel smirked to himself.

"I like it." Levy agreed.

Soon Lucy said her goodbyes, saying how she needed to get back to working right away. She was soon followed by Natsu who said he wanted to see what she was up to, but was turned down immediately. That didn't stop him from following her, with Happy following with an, "Aye sir!"

"By the way," Levy wondered, turning towards Gajeel, "Who asked you come and help out?"

"What'd you mean? Can't I just help out a guildmate on my own."

"No, it just doesn't sound like you."

She got him, bullseye. Why was she so good as figuring stuff out? There was no way Gajeel was going to tell her how Lily had convinced Lucy to let Gajeel to do the part. And there was absolutely no way she was going to tell her about how Lily guilt tripped him about how he would lose her if he didn't. So Gajeel kept quiet.

"Oh well." Levy sighed. She pulled out another book from the small bad she was carrying and opened it. "I'm glad it was you."

In a way, Gajeel was too.

"Another book?" He commented annoyingly.

"Yup," she replied, then looked up at him. "Don't worry though, it can't compare to the one you gave me!"

His cheeks grew a light shade of red, but he didn't argue. He was glad.

After a while, Levy rested her head on his shoulder, still reading the book. He didn't bother moving her, or telling her not to, he just sat there.

There was nothing that could make them happier, just the fact that they were both there together, enjoying each other's company was enough. Sure they had both had their times when they argued and fought, but that just meant they were close. After all, he said for her never to leave his side, and she agreed. There was no way she was going to forget that. They weren't quite sure of it then, but they were sure of it now.

They had both found it: the right partner.
