Author's Note

The Rising of the Moon is a 19th century folk song about the 1798 rebellion against British rule in Ireland. As with other songs, I've found that the lyrics can be revised to reflect other subject matters- either humorously or seriously. What follows is a song about certain events in Pacific Rim whose lyrics and structure resemble the folk song that I have named. Fitting different lyrics to a pre-existing tune was a common practice in the folk music of the British Isles. But even if it were not so, I would still wish to emphasize the following: absolutely no disrespect whatsoever is intended towards anyone who was involved in the 1798 Irish-British Conflict. Now that I've said that, I hope that you enjoy the lyrics.

Good Old Crimson Typhoon

[Sung to the tune of "Rising of the Moon"]

"Oh! Then tell me Wei Tang Triplets, tell me why you hurry so?"

"Hush my good man, hush and listen" and their cheeks were all aglow.

"We have orders from the marshal to be ready quick and soon

And assemble in the cockpit of good old Crimson Typhoon."

Of good old Crimson Typhoon, of good old Crimson Typhoon

And assemble in the cockpit of good old Crimson Typhoon.

.

"Oh! Then tell me Wei Tang Triplets where the battle is to be?"

"In the bay outside the city, right well known to you and we.

Tis a fearsome double event. They'll be here long before noon.

But we'll slice them both to pieces in good old Crimson Typhoon."

In good old Crimson Typhoon, in good old Crimson Typhoon

But we'll slice them both to pieces in good old Crimson Typhoon.

.

Upon many a visual scanner, eyes were fixed throughout the night,

Many a manly man and woman watched those moving dots of light.

Helicopters flew above the bay into the nighttime gloom,

Two more awesome mechs were deployed with good old Crimson Typhoon.

With good old Crimson Typhoon, with good old Crimson Typhoon

Two more awesome mechs were deployed with good old Crimson Typhoon.

.

There within Victoria Harbour, they could have used their gun,

But instead they chose to look cool with their special formation.

With their mech's three arms and saw blades, they did fight like a monsoon,

Oh! How beautifully awesome looked good old Crimson Typhoon.

Looked good old Crimson Typhoon, looked good old Crimson Typhoon,

Oh! How beautifully awesome looked good old Crimson Typhoon.

.

Well they fought for poor old Hong Kong and full bitter was their fate.

Oh! What glorious pride and sorrow fills that January date.

Yet thank God for Gypsy Danger's blade that struck beneath the moon,

Avenging Mako's family and good old Crimson Typhoon.

And good old Crimson Typhoon, and good old Crimson Typhoon,

Avenging Mako's family and good old Crimson Typhoon.
