Very well written. It was odd to see Boone being shy rather than stoic, hesitant rather than reclusive, but then again, she's Carla. She's the only one that can bring him out of his shell. He's on her turf, so he's easy prey. At first I thought they were already together and this was staged during one of his breaks from the army, but as a first-kiss scene it plays out better.

Damn, it's pieces like this that make me hurt for the NCR sniper. Even more than in One For My Baby(ies). Just yesterday I led the gang to wipe out Cottonwood and stumbled upon the Sniper Perch and got that very heart-wrenching dialogue... it's hard to believe that after everything he went through, he could still believe in redemption and doing the good thing when you take him to Bitter Springs. But that's why Boone's essentially a good man who was dealt a terrible hand.
