Oh wow, this is so well written and emotional and I love it. I've always wondered if Barney was ever suicidal; he's such a complex character and some of the things he does on the show remind me of how I've acted after depression spells and this story was just, I don't know... Really good. I loved how you gave his jumping in the river such a deep meaning and a reason. I've just assumed it was his equivalent of a cold shower. I also love the Lily and Barney moments. They are my favourite brotp ever.

I had the same thought process. In a world where you control nothing, sometimes the only control you have is how to end it...

Loved it. There should be more and longer stories that focus on Barney's obvious mental instability. He basically attempted suicide. He's clingy and obsessive and erratic. He engages in self destructive behavior. He is a compulsive person with an addictive personality (his gambling addiction is outright stated) and people seem to just skirt over these things like it doesn't factor in or something.

Loved it. Personally I wish this show would be a little more angsty like this especially with Barney since he's so much more then they one track mind idiot they show him as. I praise you. (BTW Barney/Lily friendship is my crack, thanks for adding it:)

Wow. Yes, I loved this! Getting into Barney's head, working through his thought processes; getting him exposed and vulnerable was heart-wrenching. And Lily there to offer the comfort and love of a mother just... I nearly cried it was so sad but sweet.

Oh my God! Oh my God! That was brilliant! I really really loved this story! It was so angsty and I loved the comfort. Very sweet. The writing was amazing! And I really liked the idea. I totally think there was something more to the whole jumping in the river scene too.

Personally, I've a really weird feeling whenever I read such an angsty piece (or fanfiction in general) about a comedic TV-show.

But here... The episode you mentioned really made one wonder, and with all this hinting of Barney's deep need for love as well as his childhood issues, it makes a whole lot of sense. I also really love that Lily is the one to help him.

It may be possible that hidden in the back of my head and very afar from the canon/the show itself, I kind of like the idea of BarneyLily. But that has nothing to do with this, and I'm glad.

I really believe true, deep, life-long love doesn't necessarily have to be sexual in any way. I like to imagine this kind of bond exists between Lily and Barney, and the way this story is built - so intense, with this stunning, emotional writing style of yours, I can actually feel it.

That was an amazing glimpse into Barney's psyche and his mother issues that are always mentioned but never very seriously touched upon. This felt really realistic and I'm so glad that you wrote it.
