Reviews for Demon Days
Arwen Lune chapter 1 . 2/14/2012
Man, I wish you'd written more GK because you are really fucking awesome at it. There were some real gutpunches in this. Just stunning.
Beyond-Society chapter 1 . 2/9/2011
This is fantastic. No two ways about it. The emotion is strong, but not cheesy, and the mentions of sex are erotic without being vulgar. It's really nice seeing someone give a character usually so reserved and closed off an personality and a story that doesn't clash with what is seen in the show. This fic was great; I really have no more words to offer than that.
duvalia chapter 1 . 8/26/2010
What you've written here is simply astounding. It's amazing how you entwine Colbert's memories of Julie to everything he's experiencing with his men. The descriptions you write are so vivid and each character's personality really shines through. And I love the subtle hint of slash that still allows the characters to remain true to who they are.
n chapter 1 . 7/25/2010
Love the way you got the characters little idiosyncrasies onto the page!
ziggy s chapter 1 . 7/7/2010
Hi, I've been reading fanfiction on this website for about 2 years now and as much as I have enjoyed the stories I've read I've never really wanted to review a piece of work before. So I don't really know where to start now!

This story is so beautifully written. Very sensitive to the topic & I feel you have a really firm grasp of the characters. The story you have written is such a nice blend of the plot as written and your take on the back story as well as nuances that work really nicely with the themes.

basically i loved it!
Sea Chelle chapter 1 . 11/25/2009
Wow-so after reading your other story I decided I wanted to see if you had others. I'm really glad I ran into this one! I know it's a fanfic story, but this is really great. I loved how you compare life outside of the marines to the present situation in Iraq.

"The artillery illuminates the sky like a perverted 4th of July parade, dealing death and destruction where he expects oohs and awws..." - This line just about killed me, it was so great. I read that and just stopped for a minute because it was such a poignant one that not only gives a description of what can be seen, but also of who is seeing it. Great character development within that single line alone.

"It’s forty degrees outside but he can still feel the burn of Doc’s touch, understanding and forgiveness seeping through the MOPP suit and coating his insides, pumping straight to where it counts." - This line killed me dead too. Brill.

What I loved most about this story, I think, is how such small things are the ones that make such a difference in the progression of how Colbert deals with this war and the things he's done. These aren't huge gestures, but-and this is something I also noticed about the book and the series-you almost seem to place the most subtle emphasis on the small things. It's what I love most about Wright's writing and Simon/Burns' series. Really great!

"He never had the courage to tell her that he always left some part of himself in the desert." - I've decided I love your writing style. So insightful! (I'm reviewing as I read, in case you can't tell.)

"he’s used to counting the scars on his heart alone."

"Brad hates that phrase, hates hearing those words spill from his commander’s lips time and time again only to be proven wrong." - So true! I think this was such a heartbreaking part about Fick's role, and played by Stark Sands in the series with his baby face made me want to give him a big hug and tell him that some things somewhere out there actually go according to plan.

Ugh. Your writing, I've seriously decided now, kills me dead. I'm not sure if you've written other stories (I'm about to check), but I do hope you keep writing!
Signe chapter 1 . 9/4/2009
I really enjoyed these moments, Brad's interaction with the different members of the Platoon.
Lovelikethemovies chapter 1 . 7/15/2009
Very nicely written. I especially like how you have Lt. Fick at the very end, as a conclusion.
PerpetualPeace chapter 1 . 2/2/2009
Honestly, slash that involves characters based on real people creeps me out a little. But man this is good. No, no, make that GOOD. From beginning to end. Say you write original work too, please.
LaughableBlackStorm chapter 1 . 10/8/2008
This was absolutely stunningly beautiful. Your wrote everyone perfectly, the characterizations were great, and the small bit of slash just tied it over spectacularly. Very well done, I loved it! :)
Roga chapter 1 . 10/4/2008
Wow, what an absolutely gorgeous story, maybe the best GK fic I've read. You write a great Brad, with spot-on dialogue, and I love seeing his interaction with the others here, their deep connection that he's letting himself trust in more and more.
FireFlyFlicker chapter 1 . 9/20/2008
thats sad, but i love it. i now know why they call him iceman.
glass sugar2.0 chapter 1 . 8/23/2008
It's amazing how real people make for such great characters. Definitely one of the best Five Times I've ever read. Your Bravo is very close to the one on the screen and in my head.
ESP chapter 1 . 8/23/2008
I love it utterly. It fits. I like how you focused on each member one by one, gave each section a little tinge of its own. I wish more people wrote in this category, the characters are fascinating.
eight6seven5three0nine chapter 1 . 8/15/2008
This was a great story. There really are no female characters at all, so obviously your options are limited and I like what you did with the characters you had access to. And it's not like, overtly slashy or anything so I think it worked really well.

PS- how you feel about Colbert, I feel about Fick. For some reason the guy just resonates with me. PRobably because Stark Sands looks like a big kid and I kind of want to protect him haha (and now I sound crazy).
