Reviews for Welcome To Stalag 13
mrspencil chapter 21 . 9/1/2019
I became thoroughly immersed in your tale. Characters behaved as I had hoped they would, I liked the notion that some activity was in place prior to Hogan’s arrival...but a catalyst was needed...and a lot of elements present in the episodes were neatly explained. Very well done:-)
Trekkiehood chapter 21 . 8/27/2018
Really enjoyed this story! I think this is a very plausible beginning for Hogan and his Heroes :)

I'm freaking addicted to this story. I kid you not, I was reading this from 8:30-10:45 last night! Can't wait to read more! The best! This is brilliant, and I need to keep reading! :)
Quacked Lurker chapter 21 . 2/28/2015
*silence*
I am at a loss for words.
Recently found Hogan's Heros - never did like the fact the show didn't reveal just HOW the core team (Escape Committee) got together, or why London had set up an underground branch in the middle of Stalag 13.
This marvelous fic answered all those questions - and more.
(such as why threats to the Cooler don't faze the prisoners - everything I've read about solitary confinement as POWs suggests it is one of the places most people avoid at all costs. Having stared down the Gepato, though, makes the cooler nothing to worry about).

*crickets chirp*
Couldn't stop reading until I came to the end.
This is very well written - and I could see myself being involved, not just observing what happens.
(So glad the Allied Command Staff decided they can't do anything without Kommadant Klink on base - and the fact he's doomed for the Russian Front without their intervention fits everything revealed).

Lovely fic.
Good characterizations of everyone - and the reveal at the end was spectacular.
Thank you for writing and sharing.

konarciq chapter 21 . 3/6/2013
So, I read this one, too. Always interesting to get a new look at how it all started. I got the feeling though that this was more or less a continuation of Endurance (which I read years ago and have no intention of ever reading again) - is it?
Fortunately, although the torture was still present in memories and in practice, it wasn't half as bad as that. Considering the background you gave him here, I thought Hogan's character development here was very plausible, and very well done. Even that he accepted (reluctantly) to escape, and then returned. Nice, too, that part of the operation was already in the making before he sort of built on it and developed it into the great scheme we know from the TV show. This means that the other guys have a serious part in it, too - it's not all about Hogan.
Very impressed with how you let one of his men be the first escapee to be processed through - and this man's doubts as to whether Hogan was still the same man if he refused to come with him.
Very satisfying ending with their parting - and the arrival of lovable Carter of course!

All in all, a good and realistic story, excellent character development, although the renewed beating was a bit over the top IMO. If this is where the show started, with Klink (scared as he is) never allowing anyone to beat up his prisoners, then we could have well done without that part. Hogan being scared of it happening - yes. But it actually happening was absolutely superfluent to both plot and character development.

But okay, that's only *my* opinion...
Abracadebra chapter 21 . 1/12/2013
Brilliant.
Damira chapter 9 . 5/22/2010
I love your story, I love your story. I can't wait to read the end. But I have to tell you something first.

"Halt! Stoppen Sie diesen Träger!" - Träger? What do you mean? A truck? This would be "Laster". A "Träger" could be 1 braces, 2 shoulder strap, 3 strap, 4 suspenders, 5 girder, 5 carrier, 6 porter.

If you ask a question in German, you begin the sentence with the verb. "Sie sind verletzt?" should be "Sind Sie verletzt?"

I hope you care enough to correkt that. So, now I'm off to read more.
ColHogan chapter 21 . 3/23/2010
I don't know how I could have missed this story. I loved seeing how Hogan came to Stalag 13 a nearly broken man who became a new man during his stay there and with the care of the men who would become his core unit. I really loved hos the guys wanted Hogan to leave once they discovered the Gestapo was coming back to camp for Hogan, but then he came back because he knew they needed that radio part, and he saved Schnitzer's job as well. Excellent story!
Barbara chapter 21 . 8/21/2009
Loved the story. The characters were true and clear. Always want to add a chapter to the Hogan saga. The dvds were not enough. Thanks
dramaqueen321 chapter 6 . 4/14/2009
The description of the torture Hogan had to suffer and its relentlessness astonished me but his infallibility was amazing. You write with a gift; as I read the parts when Hogan first came to the camp, broken and with little memory of his pain, it brought me to tears. The tear tracks are still there on my cheeks. Keep writing; a talent like yours should not be wasted.
Prowler4 chapter 21 . 11/22/2008

AnotherJounin chapter 21 . 5/23/2007
A nice compelling read!:) I like how you're showing Hogan's character develop from the near-wreck to the officer we know and love. You also showed very nicely how he affects those around him- like how they got ambitious with the tunnelling due to him. About Bailey- if you'd mentioned his name earlier on it might have been a bit more meaningful when they were reunited. Hehe, I like how you introduced Carter at the end!:)
