No one really gives a shit if a dumb whore like you can write or not. It’s not like you’re good at anything else, so gives a shit what a dumbass animal like you thinks.

It's rather heartwarming seeing a maternal side to Samus, even if it's only able to emerge with a Metroid hatchling. I feel like it actually does understand her. I also think she could be a good mother to it, since it isn't a fragile human that needs constant attention and care.

I can certainly see where she's coming from with that. Her entire life has been shaped with the Space Pirates in mind. From her first memory, to her childhood, to her journey as a bounty hunter, it's all been focused on the Pirates. And now they're gone. It's like her entire identity has to change now that she's finished her life's mission. Following the weapon analogy, it's like she's a sword that needs to get melted down to its base metals for reforging.

Now this was a great slice-of-life one-shot. It could be literally anyone, and it was only halfway through that I had any idea of who the character was.

It's a good thing Archer was there to bring her out of it. Want to gain a horrible thought? Imagine how many times she's had to go through that all alone.

This is such an interesting perspective on such a crucial moment in Samus’s life that I had never really given any thought. A really fun, short read! :)

Taking the manga literally, I always figured that Samus got the Power Suit at an earlier age than ten, like around 4-5. Once Samus gets used to her enhanced body, give her the Power Suit so she can progress as quickly as possible since the Space Pirates were basically on a crusade at the time. Since the suit seems to run on thought and movement, getting used to it and how it works can take time let alone performing well with the suit. The suit might as well be a whole new skin or set of limbs. The idea of an entire council of Chozo giving Samus her suit is interesting instead of Old Bird just leading Samus to a cave and giving to her seemingly on a whim.

Getting more backstory on your AU as a whole is nice as well. The whole point of Metroid is sort of giving you enough information to know what's going on but still leave enough out to leave you wanting more or captivated by the mystery.

I always wondered if there was some model of Power Suit when the Chozo were at their height that makes Samus' Legendary Power Suit look like a toaster. Since it's called the Legendary Power Suit, I always thought it had been there for hundreds of years at least.

A secret passage Samus had never seen before? Wouldn't be a secret if Samus had, would it? ;)

I really liked this oneshot. It's just a little snippet of her early life, but it gives us a clean and concise picture of what it was like for her to first learn of her real destiny. I presume this was inspired by the after-credits scene from Zero Mission with Samus and Old Bird? Maybe not the same scene, just meant to be similar, but it's what came to mind.
