Oh, wow! This was a very good story! It was lovely! I wish I had it in book form to put it on my bookshelf. I would go in between my Alice in Wonderland collection and the Spiderwick Chronicles.

I'm in love with ShiSaku of this fic Its a confusing concept but well written.

My God. Oh my gosh! I mean, why, oh my lord, why do you write SO well? What a beautiful, confusing and brilliant thing and I just wanna hold it against my heart and reread and reread and reread until the end of time and it's still not enough because I need a continuation and I need a pencil and paper and draw all the lines that your story has woven so beautifully and now I want to research all these fables and understand all these tales just because they are unfamiliar to me and read Alice and I just want to hug Shisui and hold him safely in my heart. And Ino and Sarutobi and Konohamaru and Sai and my god, why. Girl, you broke my sanity with this.

I read this and couldn’t stop and now it’s five in the morning. This is exactly the kind of fae story I’ve been starving for since a recent rewatch of Labyrinth. I’m blown away and so goddamn sad that the story ended here, wow.

I know Shisui and Sakura can run run run, though.

Cross-posting here too! So, this review will be taking place in multiple chunks and multiple sections as I write the review as I read. And girl, there’s a lot to write!

First off, I love Kakuzu and I want Sakura to dump all the Fay and stay with him. He’s a wonderfully grumpy boy and their relationship and banter is just lovely.

I’m reviewing this as I read so already this large old house is wigging me out. Especially since Itachi is the one answering the door. I don’t trust him, though I want to trust Hiruzen. Sakura’s sass is perfection and it’s literally killing me. Vesper, how are you such a master of sass? Is it because you teach sassy children? I need lessons.

Oh dang. OH DANG. I just realized the whole numbers thing. No wonder Sakura’s so good at being an accountant, she’s a freaking changeling! It hasn’t yet been stated, but I am calling it. You are a master of laying hints. Man, a part of me wishes I was a changeling just so I could make sure my statistics skills were perfect. Alas, I must live with human error. And there’s also the fact that being a changeling brings numerous downsides.

Hm. So, I in no way know the ins and outs of Fay rules, but isn’t it bad to eat food prepared by Fay? I am high-key worried for Sakura now, though I don’t know if it’d make any impact what with her being a changeling, which Itachi and Hiruzen seem unaware. Also, I love how Hiruzen teases Itachi. He’s such a gleeful shit-stirrer and it sets a nice counterpart to Itachi’s relative stiffness.

Damn, Sakura is a shit-stirrer too. No wonder she and Hiruzen get on like a house on fire, what with the way they sass Itachi. I cannot help but wonder what will happen when she meets Shisui. I’m sure it’ll take centuries off Itachi’s life, to be honest. Or, he’ll learn to loosen up. That boy will either bend or break.

Oh. OH. Sakura doesn’t know. Or doesn’t remember. Oh dang. That can’t be good. And now I’m side-eying Hiruzen and wondering if he happens to be aware of her status. Hm. I do adore the companionship between Sakura and Hiruzen though and I think I can maybe possibly handle it if you reveal him to have masterminded this whole thing. Maybe. As long as you don’t make it painful (and, usually, you do).

“I am old enough for fairytales again I think.” What a good line. It’s similar to something C. S. Lewis wrote right? “But some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again. You can then take it down from some upper shelf, dust it, and tell me what you think of it.” It’s such an apt statement and, given my limited knowledge of what is to come, such a good forewarning of what is to come. If Sakura encountered the Fay as a child and forgot them, she’s finally of an age where she can do so again and withstand them. Vesper, you are a master of your craft.

Oh, that rabbit tapestry is interesting and I am so curious as to what it has to do with Sakura and the title of this fic. I know it’s going to come back around.

Damn, Sakura is such a badass. You use that fire poker and defend Konohamaru! Aw man, Hiruzen totally lived up to his canon counterpart and disappointed me with his actions. Like, come on dude. Don’t invite Fay into your home when you have unaware guests housed within. It’s House Sharing 101.

Wow, Shisui is pretty unhinged in this. It’s quite interesting actually, seeing him at this different angle. I’m used to him being characterized as all smiles but that certainly isn’t the case here. And the fact that he is canonically the fastest makes him a great candidate for one of the rabbit roles. I’m not quite sure what the rabbits do yet, but my guess is that they run? Idk.

I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT! SAKURA’S SUCH A FREAKING BALLER. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE HER! Her magical girl transformation was amazing and I am so invested in seeing why Shisui traded for her name. Also, Shisui is already into her and I’m digging it. I’m wearing my shipping goggles all the way through this adventure!

Hm. Your descriptions of Sakura’s transformation remind me a bit of Ran and the Gray World. Did you take any inspiration there? Having such a boundless, limitless body only to once more be shackled into the constantly decaying human body once more. A bit darker maybe, but I can definitely see parallels.

Shikamaru is pissing me off. He’s so high and mighty and I’m hoping he’s served a healthy dose of humility by Sakura at some point.

Konohamaru is absolutely adorable, making her cookies and milk like she’s some sort of Santa Claus figure. I love it. And it’s great that Sakura’s explaining it to him, thereby the reader, about the rabbits and a bit more about the courts. It flows naturally. And he calls her “boss?” My heart just melts. I hope that this caustic but endearing relationship continues throughout the story. I’m such a sucker for mentor/student relationships which I can sort of see Sakura and Konohamaru’s relationship turning into. You love Team Three & Sakura in hands like houses? Well, I love Sakura & Konohamaru in White Rabbit.

I am very curious to know about the court that took Sakura originally. She mentioned it was matriarchal, so I’m imagining something like a Senju/Uzumaki hybrid with Tsunade, Karin, Kushina, Tayuya, and the like being the major players. I really need to read up on Fay courts as I am basically clueless.

The sass is strong in this fic and I adore it. Like damn, Sakura and Konohamaru are such smart asses. I get the feeling that as part of Itachi’s character development, he’ll get a sense of humor. Or at the very least, sarcasm.

MY CHILD SAI HAS ARRIVED. He’s so young! Is he a changeling? Oh, or I suppose he could be a bound Fay, since I’m guessing Danzo is a wizard. And he’s probably in a pissing contest with Sarutobi too. “You have a Fay as a retainer? How quaint, so do I!” sort of thing. I am so ready for Sakura to work her “I’m too tired for this shit,” genuine magic on him. It’s gonna be so good.

Danzo’s an ass but what’s new there? Hm. I predict Witch’s Sabbath has something to do with the whole Uchiha plan for world domination and what not. And Danzo seems to think that Sakura will be a central player, whether she wants to be or not. Ugh, he’s such a smarmy asshole.

Well, that concludes my review for now. I will be back to review more later! This is such a treat and a wild ride and it’s giving me a crash course on Fay and changelings. Which is great, because I have four or five prompts asking for things regarding the Fay court. I can tell that this is a passion project of yours, filled with your love and knowledge of fairytales. Ohmigod, this is too good, too precious for my heart ! The character development , plots and games sound incredible and I'm in love with it all. Amazing! I especially love how Itachi was written as the traitor in hiding, it was a super good plot twist!
