what a lovely story :) hah, with their luck it's totally plausible they had something similar in Scarborough, though i hope for their sakes, it went smoother :) but anyway I'm glad Charles solved the problem and they had a lovely time in this story :)
happy belated birthday Chelsie Dagger :)
Manygreentrees chapter 1 . 6/4/2016
Hilarious ! I laughed through all the interruptions, the contrast between Charles' growing irascibility and dishabillement, and Elsie's equanimity in dealing with Fred and his increasingly artificial reasons for knocking on their door. Then a maid (girl) turned up with a mistaken room. Oh, she wasn't so kind then. At least , Charles' drastic solution ensured a peaceful and successful wedding night. Hooray!
I imagine Charles will find some long, boring and unpleasant tasks for Thomas Barrow to complete when he returns from his honeymoon.
Excellent work!
brenna-louise chapter 1 . 6/4/2016
It would indeed be fitting if the Carsons were constantly interrupted on their honeymoon as they are at the Abbey. Poor Charles and Elsie, growing more and more frustrated as their wedding night activities keep getting waylaid by bellboys and maids. I love that Charles can't take it anymore and takes them off to the Crown, determined to have an uninterrupted wedding night with his lovely wife no matter what and I love the image of them cuddled up together the next morning, ignoring the knock on the door in favour of other things.

Chelsie Dagger chapter 1 . 6/4/2016
Awww. I sincerely hope their honeymoon was not so fraught with interruptions, but this is exactly how it would have gone down if it were. Even Elsie was starting to lose her coolThank you for this delightful story. Belated gifts are a great way to milk my bday for all its worth! Speaking of which...Last night I had a great surprise. We went to a movie at the Seattle International Film Festival. While we were in line, I looked up and did a double take. Laura Carmichael was standing there talking to some of the Festival officials! She was there promoting her new movie, Burn, Burn, Burn. She was shuffled into a car pretty quickly, so we didn't get a pic. I really wanted to yell, 'Mary's a bitch!', but I refrainedShe was wearing monstrously tall platform shoes and looked incredible!

Brilliant! Fantastic story. Xx
libbybell chapter 1 . 6/4/2016
Oh, my goodness, it would be just their luck, wouldn't it?! I hope they had a more peaceful, uninterrupted honeymoon than this! Although maybe that's why Charles said he was glad to be back when they arrived from their honeymoon? They were interrupted more times than at Downton, and he knew they would have privacy and peace in their own home (the cottage, I mean)? I think this is also why he wants to spend so much time, including meals, there. No interruptions! ;)

But I digress. This was delightful. I had to laugh with Charles being so annoyed and angry. Poor man. I'm glad Elsie was a bit more patient with poor little Fred. It wasn't his fault even if he was being inconvenient. Charles' idea to change hotels to get some quiet time with his wife on their wedding night is hilarious. Having to sneak around like that and give false names. Oh, my, he sure was desperate!

I'm just glad they finally found the quiet night they sought (and deserved!). I'm sure they had many blissful moments after that. I love it when other people have birthdays and we all get a present! This was such a cute, fluffy and funny oneshot. Thank you. Feel free to write as many as you want like this!

Ha! They can't escape the interruptions anywhere! I can't believe Thomas called them. Knowing him, I almost wonder if he did it on purpose, for some mischievous reason. This makes me glad that hotels these days don't send their staff knocking on guests' doors unless they're asked. Charles and Elsie could have used a Do Not Disturb sign! Thanks for this. It was lots of fun.
FoolWhoDreams chapter 1 . 6/4/2016
Oh this was just brilliant. I loved the image of them leaving and coming back under a false name just to get a nights peace. The interruption with the champagne was sweet as it was supposed to be a present from Lord and Lady Grantham. However, I do believe that the one from Thomas was just Thomas being Thomas as I'm sure he'd know exactly where the key to the silver pantry was. Still at least they eventually got an undisturbed wedding night which is the important thing ;).
joaniefan chapter 1 . 6/4/2016
