I am going back and catching uo on some older stories I have missed, and this is a great one! Your title, and analogy to Icarus are lovely...truly one of my favorite stories on HH FF.

Wow great short story!

I missed this when it first came out, which is too bad because it's a good story. It's nice to see Carter portrayed as more capable than he often is, and his newness to the team provides good reasons for Newkirk not knowing his expertise, a central tenet of the plot. Newkirk's feelings of regret after his over-confidence provide the emotional heart of the story, and the basis for allusion in the title (which fits perfectly!).

I really like this story. You write Carter with a lot more focus and clarity in dangerous situations than a lot of people do, which makes his character read very realistically in your stories and true to his TV characterization. The way this establishes some of the relationships and setups is great as well. I always have loved Newkirk & Carter's friendship.

Thank you so much for this glimpse into the formation of the friendship between Newkirk and Carter. They certainly are a wonderful pair even though they are so dissimilar one from another. This story is marvelous. Thank you. :)

It was nice to read a HH story again, and, after all this time away from them, you managed to keep everybody in character- Carter remaining very carefree after the incident, Newkirk's beating himself up and LeBeau's being there for him. Nice to see a story that includes Olsen, however small a part he has.
One minor quibble- I'm pretty sure tres bon should be tres bien.

I love this so so much! I especially love how it happens early on and establishes the type of person Carter is to the other heroes. I also really like your explanation as to why Carter's back at Stalag 13 as a sergeant.
I also really love how Carter pulled rank (and threatened to pull rank). It's so easy to forget that he's technically the highest ranking NCO of the group. I also feel that it makes a lot of sense that he would pull rank more early on, before everyone's relationships with each other were fully settled in. Later on, I think Carter himself forgot that he outranks everyone besides Hogan.

Welcome back! We've missed you. This is a lovely one-shot that offers a different interpretation of Carter's demotion and return to camp. I always enjoy seeing Carter as a competent soldier, and your characterization of Newkirk is perfect. Well-done.

Really good to see you back here with yet another terrific story! I don't generally think of Carter as being all that observant, but you do a convincing job here of showing him in that light.

And great story! Carter's fabulous here. You portray him as more competent and intelligent than a lot of fics I've seen, and personally, I see him more as he's written here - not as a bumbling, stupid kid.
The explanation for his return to Stalag 13 is very plausible and good.

I always like to see Carter in a competent role, and he certainly uses his skills to good effect in this story. And you never see him pull rank in the episodes, so it's great to see him do it here, when it looks like Newkirk is taking the recent events too much to heart.

This is also a good explanation of Newkirk's tendency to worry about his mates during a mission, despite his often-seen impatience with Carter.

This was a fun little story; I thoroughly enjoyed your characterizations of both Carter and Newkirk. Nicely done!

This is great! I still love how you write for Carter. It's so nice to see him portrayed in an intelligent light, and this is a very interesting piece, showing how they came to use him for demolition. I also like how you explained the confusion between the pilot and the series proper. And how you remind us that Carter is actually higher in rank than Newkirk.

Poor Newkirk. That definitely would be a horrible blow, to realize he'd almost cost Carter his life. Not something to recover from easily.

And I see how a new fandom interest likely inspired the title/summary. Nice!
