Absolutely loved this, as that woile apartment story seemed weird and tacked on in the episode. And at the same time, I remember thinking - " of course he hates it. Bad stuff went down in that apartment!" So thank you for dealing with this in such a wonderful, true-to-the-characters way. :)

So apparently I've never reviewed this? Stuck in terribly boring meetings all day and naturally am going through my inbox of unread fic. But I know I recall having read this before and loving it then. So my apologies for the late review. But I still find this just as lovely now. I agree with you that Beckett's attachment to the apartment seemed to come out of left field, but I think this explanation here fills in some canon gaps quite nicely!

This is a great way to fill in what wasn't said during that scene on the show. I, too, wondered why Rick didn't like her apartment and then unfortunately didn't see her reaction so he could explain. Very nicely done!

That admission from Castle, casually thrown quip about not liking the place came out of nowhere for me too. He is usually sentimental, empathetic person, so it did feel a bit odd and left unfinished why he said it. I can only hope they will adress it later in the show when he has to open himself up a little more. Maybe.
