Charity convinces Anne to take a break from Phillip's bedside. (I'm not great at summaries and this is the first thing I've wrote in years)

Post-movie. Phillip is mesmerized by Anne, and W.D. knows it. The brother and the beau get into a heated discussion, in which Phillip confesses, in Anne's earshot, that he loves her. "I won't ever let anything happen to her, the world be damned. I love her, more than my own self. Isn't that enough?" "Yes, it /is/ enough." Phillip/Anne.

Maybe Phillip shouldn't have lost the hat, but maybe Barnum shouldn't have made him cry.

At least for one moment she got to know what it might be like to love, and be loved in return, even if it was Phineas' pretend voice in her head, in her pretend world where they might've been lovers on stage, a phantom daydream.

Anne never thought he'd make a miraculous recovery, but apparently Phillip didn't seem to take the hint to not push himself. Therefore, she'd be there every step of the way, along with her brother and the rest of the circus, to keep him from falling over his own two feet or else dying in front of her, again.

He promised them that from now on he would be a different man, the one they all knew when they met him. Could Lettie forgive him for all that he had done?

Anne thought she could move on. She thought she could work through the infatuation and the childish crush she had on Phillip Carlyle. Now, seeing him lying prone in a bed, covered in bandages and ash, because of her, made all those thoughts seem silly. If anything, this was showing her that her feelings for him were far deeper than she had been willing to admit.

Oneshot. They had never spoken of that day when both of them, two women who were so different, had been in such anguish over their two men who were so alike.
