As a child Bilbo dreamed of fire raining down a mighty mountain, of desperate screams and anguished cries. As he grew up the dreams became of pain and blood, of mindless slaughter and unearthly cries. When he meets Thorin Oakenshield for the first time he begins to realize that his dreams may be more than terrifying nightmares.

AU — When he opens his eyes again, he finds himself in his old bed in his old home in his old body. Is this death? Or a trick of magic? Either way, Bilbo recognizes a second chance when he sees one, and this time his adventure with Thorin is going to go a bit differently.

On occasion, Thorin's past catches up with him. Dwalin is there for him when he is needed. Gen or Dwalin/Thorin depending on your goggles. Flashback fic. Oneshot.

For a moment, Balin could pretend this would be enough for Thorin. That he could be happy with the little things, a good meal, a roof over his head and a loving family, and that his perilous, righteous desire for revenge and the reclaiming of Erebor would be eclipsed... The Battle of the Five Armies has been won and Erebor is once again the proud city of the dwarves. Kíli is rejoicing his own survival, but having been separated from his brother and Uncle, what will he find as he searches the battlefield? And how will it impact on his future?

When Thorin arrives for a long-overdue visit, it jolts Bilbo and Frodo out of their comfortable routine. Frodo longs for adventure, while Bilbo remains haunted by memories of the past and hesitates to take his new heir on a dangerous journey. But when surprising news arrives from Erebor, Bilbo is forced to admit that adventure might not be finished with him just yet. AU
