I've beta'd a bit, but most of my "beta" experience is from reviews. I have written over 500 of them, most giving meaningful input and corrections. I truly feel like my reviews are often the exact same thing as beta advice, but delayed. I'm willing to analyze and correct (both writing style/mechanics and story content (depending on how closely you want the content to follow canon or any other reference, of course)), and I am also willing to motivate and cooperate.

I have used DocX and Google Docs for beta reading, but if there's a different method of communication you'd want to use, I'm flexible.

I can certainly correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and word choice. I almost never misspell words myself, so it's natural for me to correct that kind of thing. Every time I click the spell check button, it says nothing is wrong other than words I've made up, like names, although there's the occasional 1-letter-change error. I also have very strong opinions of what is in-character, so I can help make adjustments in that regard, obviously adjusted to how you've developed the characters. I also have strong opinions on pacing: Do major plot events have enough justification in my eyes to happen at that time? Do the characters know enough to make the decisions you have them make? That type of thing. And detail analysis. How do small details fit in with canon? Such as effects of combat, for things that involve that, or the logic behind a previously unknown back-story.

I'm not the best at making words flow nicely, though I can certainly notice lack of flow when reading someone else's work. I'm also not so great at painting beautiful descriptions, so I likely won't be of much help in that regard. ...The more I read this section, the more I realize it is not true. Dunno.

I enjoy long stories with involved plots that attempt to analyze or branch off from the official plot. I also like variants - AU settings with just a few things tweaked. "How would things be different if X decision or Y event or truth existed, or if Z character trait was changed?" I hardly ever like reading OC injections into a nearly unchanged plot, although I find those easy to analyze, so I'm not totally opposed to beta reading that type of story. That being said, some of my favorite fan fictions of all time are one-shots. As long as there's solid substance, I'll probably like it. As for "solid substance"... see the un-preferences section.

Let's see... Don't like... sappy romance (semi-platonic fluff stuff is fine, just not mindless gushing of love - there has to be conflict in some way, and often comfort in response to the conflict is a good way to include fluff), male x male, things that directly assault my personal beliefs (I'd need to have an input example to make a decision, but there have been a couple stories that I quit reading because I absolutely hated what they were trying to do), pure lemon, scare horror (doesn't work on me; but sad horror is fine), pure humor, and poetry.
