Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta reader, I will be looking at the general spelling and grammar of the story at first. As a secondary goal, I will offer suggestions and guidance with regards to the content and flow of the story. I will reject stories that have a blatant disregard for conventional grammar and spelling as it shows great disrespect for the craft of writing /br /

Please do not send me stories that you have already published. The point of a Beta is to improve your writing BEFORE it is published...like an editor. Betas are not free /br /

Please be aware that I am a full time middle school teacher. I will not be able to Beta a 10 chapter story over a short period of time. Sending me a chapter at a time to help you establish a rhythm is where I think I can be most /br /

Also, I prefer to Beta and communicate over Google Docs due to its highly collaborative nature. If you have a Google Docs account, or are willing to get one and learn how to use it, that will greatly improve the Beta process since I will be able to give you more specific and useful feedback in the writing process as a whole.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
One of my strengths is in grammar and spelling as I am a school teacher. I also get bored easily so I'll let you know if your story drags its feet. Regarding characters, I'm kind of a stickler for staying true to canon personality traits. I'm all for growth, but it has a to be a realistic change of personality.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weakness is that I can become easily distracted. If your story is slow going, I may miss more technical errors as I trudge through. However, I'll let you know what in your story is causing me to yawn or stare at my /br /

I suck with titles. Check out my resume, it's not /br /

I need organization. If I can't tell where your story is going or where it's starting from, I WILL ask you to write an outline and send it to me. I don't care about spoilers because I'm here to help you write. Tell me the whole story and your whole intentions or this isn't going to work.

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I would prefer to read stories in the categories of Star Wars, Harry Potter, Willy Wonka, Thor, The Avengers, and Pirates of the Caribbean. However, I will generally accept anything in the science fiction or fantasy genre. Vampires are always a winner; too bad Anne Rice has a vendetta against fanfiction. br /br /

Horror. Anything that smacks of horror and suspense is a winner and an automatic 'yes.' So many fanfics (including my own!) are romance, with adventure being a far second. Write something in the true horror genre with characters we both love and I will eat it up!br /br /

*I have been swamped with Beta requests for Harry Potter stories so let me narrow down those particular parameters: I prefer the parental generation of characters (Lily, James, Remus, Sirius, Lucius, etc) over the main characters. I prefer the traditional time line and canon of characters. OC's are fine as long as they fit in with the existing story line.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I'm not very comfortable reading slash or lemon stories. I have nothing against homosexuality, but I just can't seem to get into these types of stories. Please, no "High School Musical," "Zoey 101," "Hannah Montana," or any other "tween" oriented stories. That's pretty much anything based on Disney Channel or Nickelodeon in present programming. I'm a die hard for their nineties programs and am disgusted with the shows they are currently trying to pass off as entertainment. /br /

No stories where "person from out reality magically ends up in the universe of book/movie." Everyone starts here and the end result is never as good as you want it to be. We know that you want to flesh out what it would be like to magically show up at Hogwarts or on the Death Star or if One Direction showed up at your door asking for directions (no pun intended)...we all do...that's why we're here. Instead of writing a story where you attempt to physically explore the fictional world...actually explore it by expounding on it with your own unique characters and plots.
