Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I write fanfiction for fun and as a stress relief, but that does not mean that I don't try hard to make sure it is as good as I can possibly make it before I post it to the site. As a result, I would like anyone who wishes for me to review their work to be aware that I believe if you are looking for someone to beta your stories, it means you are serious about writing better. If you're just looking for someone who will tell you how wonderful everything is, I'm probably not your ideal /br / I do give a considerable amount of leeway, as I realize that this site is for fun and that everyone has their own particular writing style and vision, but if something is not working I WILL tell you and I expect my suggestions to be taken seriously. I particularly appreciate authors who take the time to actually research their stories and proofread before and AFTER they've run a spell check to catch errors. Spelling mistakes in the title or summary and gross mangling of basic history are / br / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stories are preferred, but I will happily beta stories from any of the categories I've selected. If you like my work and want me to beta stories for other categories that is also fine, but I can't promise help with anything related to canon outside of the selected categories. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm particularly good at grammar, pointing out discrepancies, awkward phrasing, character development, and generally pointing out whether or not things make sense. I have a good eye for detail, and if you're stuck I am usually able to help with ideas to get you out of writer's block. If you have a question or don't understand why I suggested something, I will happily explain as best I can. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
No poetry please. I don't have anything against it, but I have never been able to work with it without mangling it horribly. I would also like anyone who asks me to review their stuff to please be aware I am not perfect. I do occasionally miss things or impose my opinion when I should be backing off, but I do my best to make sure that happens as little as /br / I do get swamped by daily life on occasion, so it may take anywhere from a few days to a week or more to review stories at times. If this happens, I apologize in advance. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I like thinking stories, fluff with a point, humor, parody, drama, general stories, crossovers (if I know both participants), adventure, family stuff, hurt/comfort, friendship stories, angst that doesn't stretch on forever, AU's with interesting or unique premises, historical based drama/adventures, occasional chibi, slash, romance that doesn't bludgeon me to death with lemons and ridiculous sap, and just about anything else that is reasonably well written or shows promise. I will also happily do OC stories that are not obviously Mary Sue (I do realize that it can be hard to tell sometimes if a Sue is present and will offer suggestions if it looks like one is developing), and M rated stories with violent or controversial themes that don't gross me out (don't be afraid to ask, as I am pretty open minded. Basically, as long as it doesn't have more lemons than a produce aisle and isn't just flat sick you're probably okay). |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I'm not particularly interested in stuff with lots of lemons -a few spaced out in a multiple chapter story are fine, but I get bored and disgusted when I see multiple lemons in a chapter unless they are extremely well done. No humiliation fic please, as I find that to be a massive turnoff. I'm also not interested in beta-ing anything deeply spiritual, as I believe this is a personal matter and not something that should be forced on others, even if they are fictional characters. I will happily read good spiritual stories that I find on the site when I'm in the mood, but I don't particularly care to beta /br / And once again, no poetry please, unless you wish to see it butchered unintentionally. I simply have no talent for it. |
