Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'll be as supportive as I can, but I won't be kind if something is bad. I do promise to be polite and I will try to give you suggestions to make it better. If I think a line is cheesy or false sounding, I'll let you know. I'll also double check spelling and grammar for you to make sure you didn't miss anything but I'm not perfect myself, so if that's your biggest concern you might want to find another beta.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I excel at pointing out plot holes and inconsistency, and when character's are OOC. I am good at making a writer accountable for the decisions they are making. I'm okay with a decision made that I don't like, but you better have a reason for making said decision. I am also good at suggesting alternative ways of saying something, and pointing out when a sentence doesn't necessarily convey what a writer meant to convey. In addition to that, I'm a good source to bounce ideas at and brainstorm with to help push through writer's block.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am competent with spelling and grammar, but not perfect with the latter. Especially when it comes to character dialogue I tend to let things slip through, because in my mind people rarely talk with perfect grammar. If you want a Grammar Nazi, you might want to find someone /

Also, the brute honesty I have can come across as offensive at times, especially over written mediums. I tend to be very sarcastic, and sarcasm is difficult to convey through writing. We need a sarcasm font. But if I do write something that you feel was offensive, let me know so we can clear the /

And finally, I have a slight phobia of Original Characters. Most of the time they annoy me. That isn't always the case, and the fact of the matter is that the things that annoy me about Original Characters also annoy a lot of other people, and that may make me a really good beta for OC stories. But if you want me to beta a story with an original character (especially if said character is a central or the central character of the story) be warned I may have to stop being your beta if I feel I can't stomach the character.

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
One-shots and shorter stories. I define a shorter story as something that is ultimately going to come in at 10000 to 20000 words, somewhere in that ballpark. I'm not saying I would never beta a longer story, but I prefer working on projects that aren't going to be quite that overreaching (in part because I like to see things get finished and far too many good long stories end up unfinished because the author lost interest).

I love active stories. I don't mean active as in posting constantly, I mean the action keeps moving forward.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories

Non-Canon Slash Pairings. I'm okay with working with Slash pairings if they are canon (i.e. Callie/Arizona for Grey's Anatomy, or Willow/Tara for Buffy the Vampire Slayer) but non canon slash pairings aren't my cup of /

br /

In fact, most non-canon pairings aren't my cup of tea. There is some wiggle room for this, especially in terms of Harry Potter stories and cross-over stories. But even in cases where I'm alright with a non-canon pairing, I still prefer canon pairings. Please note, however, that in my mind a canon pairing is any that actually has a basis in canon, even if said pairing is not ultimately how things turned out. Examples of this include Zuku/Katara for Avatar the Last Airbender, Phoebe/Cole for Charmed, Emma/Graham for Once Upon a Time /

Porn Without Plot. I'm okay with reading a story with a sex scene, but I don't really qualify to beta those specific scenes. But there is a line between having a sex scene and having a sex fic. If sex is the point of the story, i'm not interested, especially if it violates the TOS for the site.
