Author has written 12 stories for Sisters Grimm. Female, occasional writer. BRINK - my first fanfic - was a writing exercise. A good friend and I were talking one day and wishing we had more time to write. So we made a sort-of pact: to simply just write - because we enjoy it, because it doesn't have to be perfect, because we don't have to finish it in a hurry, because we must (or else perish with wanting). And also because in order to get better at something, we need to keep practicing. I've never written fiction based on someone else's characters, let alone characters who are already well known and much loved. It's daunting. I wouldn't be able to start from scratch, in a sense, but the trade-off is a set of boundaries within which to expand old personalities within a new world. Hence the writing exercise: take a very, very simple plot, limit the world-building and focus on fleshing out the people. Eeek! But perhaps fun also. I gave myself two years to let the characters of Sisters Grimm live in my head and BRINK was the outcome. I appreciate all your comments and reviews and PMs on any of my stories, but I especially appreciate anyone who's jumped in and read BRINK from beginning to end - I know it's gargantuan and takes real commitment to plough through. I hope it was worth the read. Apart from a handful of new characters that came directly from my imagination, everyone else in my stories come from Michael Buckley's, and belong to him. |
