Just a little something that I've been working on for a few months now. An original fiction novel.

Onyx: The Sovereign Slayer Chronicles

PART V

After Three Years

He saw a tree with several bodies hanging from it. Several crows began to feast on the rotting corpses despite the heavy rain. Onyx finally reached his destination. The rain did not seem to let up, but he did not care for three years he waited for this moment and finally he would have his revenge. He began walking and noticed the look on the faces of the townspeople; they were scared, depressed, saddened, and hopeless. Tonight would be the night that he would finally make her pay for everything she had done. He walked inside the pub and noticed four legionnaires harassing a girl.

“Now, now doll face what’cha say you take care of me and my boys here... On the house that is.” The four men grinned, and grabbed the girl forcing her upstairs into one of the rooms.

One of them took notice to Onyx standing near the entrance. “Hey who the fuck are you?” The man neared him and placed a hand on his shoulder. “I said who the fuck are ack...”

“Lubbock what are you...” They saw that their friend had stopped talking, and slowly began falling to the floor. A pool of blood started forming in the floor from his sliced throat. Onyx held up the knife and threw it at another one of the legionnaires. The knife landed in his forehead effectively killing him.

“Why you little...” The two men reached for their weapons and began rushing towards Onyx. He drew his sword letting it land in the floor. The sword made a hole on the floor. The two men abruptly stopped.

“That thing... What the fuck kind of sword is it?” They saw that the sword was bigger than the boy himself, add to that the fact that the damn thing was heavy enough to make a hole in the floor from simply dropping it. Onyx used that as a chance to cut one of the legionnaires in half.

“DAMN YOU!” The other man rushed him, but Onyx punched him in the gut. “Ack...” The man dropped to his knees.

Onyx approached him crouched in front of him so that they were eye to eye. “It's you... There's no way... You are supposed to be dead...”

Onyx saw the look of horror on the man's face. Onyx smiled at him. “Been a long time Reik.”

“Onyx... You uhh... Look different. You also haven't aged at all. What the fuck is going on?” Reik was struggling to get his bearings.

Onyx could tell that this was a shock to him. “Well sorry for killing your 'new' team, but I'm in a bit of a rush.” Onyx then placed his hand on his throat and began squeezing. “Where is she? Where is Azura?”

“Onyx... You're... Can't breathe...” Reik struggled for air. “She's here...”

“Embry? Where is Embry?” Onyx began squeezing tighter.

“Onyx I... I don't know okay.” Onyx knew he was telling the truth, and finally let go of him.

“I'm going now, but before I go...” Onyx grabbed his sword.

“Onyx you can't please.” Reik began pleading for his life.

Onyx then cut down Reik in half. His blood splattered all over the place. Some landed on Onyx's face. The girl as well as the other patrons looked at him in horror. Then the girl approached him and offered him a handkerchief to wipe the blood on his face. Onyx then turned to look at her. The girl stopped when she got a good look at him. His hair was jet black, and his eyes were a deep crimson with black slits. The blood splattered on his face did not help either. In her eyes she saw a demon.

“Umm here...” The girl was traumatized at the sight, yet grateful in a way.

Onyx grabbed the handkerchief and wiped the blood off. Then he looked at the girl. “Do you think I'm a monster?”

The girl shook her head. “The night's still young.”

“Umm I...” The girl tried to work up the courage to speak to him. “You could stay with me and my parents for the night.”

Onyx did not expect the girl to be so forthcoming, but at least he wouldn't have to pay for a place to stay. “Thank you.” Onyx then saw that one of the men left a repeating crossbow at the table. He took it, and pilfered their bodies for anything useful. He inspected their bodies to see if they had one inside them, but nothing they were still human.

“A coward even until the very end eh Reik?” Then he made his way to the keep.

Onyx stood at the entrance of the keep grounds. The gate slowly opened on its own almost as if she had been expecting him. He continued walking until he came up to the plaza. The fountain along with the rest of the keep was in shambles. Several of the buildings were falling apart, and the concrete was cracked all along the paths, the buildings, and the monuments.

Onyx drew the repeating crossbow. He could hear them, at least thirty of them. Onyx looked at his surroundings, but saw nothing. He heard some rocks move to his right. He aimed his crossbow only to hear more noises from every other direction. Then he heard laughter.

“Ha ha ha so the prodigal son finally returns.” He knew that voice.

“Azura come out so that I can kill you.” Onyx kept looking around, but saw no one he could only hear the rattling from the rocks, and the rooftops.

“KILL HIM!” Then several figures began emerging out of the floor, walls, and the rooftops as if they had made the noise from within.

Onyx began firing his crossbow. He unloaded an entire magazine into one of the legionnaires. Then the legionnaire got up again. They all began to surround him. Onyx drew his sword, and began slicing one of the legionnaires in half. A group of five rushed him at the same time only to be cut down at the same time by the massive sword. Then a group of them drew their crossbows and began firing at Onyx. Onyx tapped the button on the pommel of his sword and the blade became wider shielding him from the incoming arrow volley. Onyx tapped the button again, and turned his sword back to normal. Onyx then rushed at the group that fired the arrows. They all began to immediately retreat save for one that was attempting to reload. Onyx cut his head off. The body stood there until tentacles started writhing about attempting to get a hold of Onyx. Onyx then proceeded to impale him with his sword. He could hear the shrieking from the nekro-parasite. He took his foot and pushed the body from his sword.

He looked around him the rest had retreated. He looked at the tower overlooking the keep grounds. “I got your number Azura.” He sheathed his sword and headed towards the tower.

He looked at the rest of the buildings on his way there. All the memories he had of this place, and now to see it in ruins. He finally reached the tower. He saw two statues that had not been there before. Both looked like they were guarding the entrance of the tower. Onyx placed his hand on the hilt of his sword, and as if by command the statues began moving. Onyx pressed the button at the hilt of his sword and turned it into its trident form. One of the statues attempted to impale Onyx with his spear, but Onyx impaled it with his sword. The statue completely shattered. The other statue attempted to cut down Onyx, but he blocked it.

“Tch if I was still the same as I was 4 years ago I wouldn't be able to take on two golems.” Onyx broke the golem's stone sword. The golem shielded itself immediately. Onyx rushed the golem, and used its shield to jump over it and impale its head. The statue shattered entirely.

He sheathed his sword and began walking inside the tower. As he reached the top he could hear screams of pain, agony, and fear. He kept walking until he saw Azura surrounded by the bodies of the legionnaires covered in blood. She had a sadistic grin in her face.

“Have you finally seen reason and chosen to come back to me?” Azura wrapped her arms around her. She ran her hand across her face smearing it with more blood.

“I came here to kill you. But first... Where is Embry?” Onyx looked at the bodies around her. It seemed that she must have absorbed all of their nekro-parasites.

“Oh come now surely you didn't come all this way for those two things now did you?”

Onyx could see something moving underneath her skin. He drew his sword and stood at the ready. Then Azura began to writhe about. Her body started convulsing, and spasming. Then something began to try to burst out of her stomach. The nekro-demon emerged. It started getting bigger and bigger until it broke the roof. Onyx pressed a different button on the hilt, and his sword turned into a ballista hook-shot. He aimed it at the demon's tentacle, and fired. He launched himself at the tentacle and cut it off. The demon shrieked in pain. It was able to get a hold of Onyx's leg, and began to put him near its mouth. Onyx was hanging upside down when he saw it open its mouth to swallow him whole. He aimed his sword at the demon's throat and pulled the trigger. He landed inside the demon's stomach.

He bathed in its acids for a while until he retracted the hook-shot. He turned it back into sword form and began cutting away at anything that seemed vital. The demon seemed to howl in pain as Onyx kept cutting himself a way out. He finally saw the outside when he noticed that the demon was about to fall off the tower. He transformed it into its ballista form and aimed for the tower wall. Finally the demon fell off the tower and into the ground plummeting to its death. Onyx climbed the tower to see if Azura was still alive.

He walked to her body to see her struggling. She seemed to be holding onto her life by a thread. He stomped her back with his foot.

“Agh...” She stopped moving, and turned her head to see Onyx.

“What are you gonna do to me?” She was frightened something Onyx enjoyed.

“Where. Is. Embry?” He kept stomping her back while he questioned her.

“I don't know Onyx.” Onyx could see that her wounds were starting to take a toll on her body.

“Oh no you don't get to die that easily.” Onyx grabbed her by her hair and started dragging her body to the dungeon.

She placed her body on the torture rack. He began placing the shackles on each of her limbs and started turning the wheel. She began to scream in agony as her limbs were being torn apart.

“Where is Embry?” He grew tired of questioning her.

“I don't... Agh... Know.”

“You were the one who dragged us there. You were the one who offered her. You were the one who sacrificed them all.” Onyx began to scream at her. “You were the one who abandoned me in that damn forsaken place for three years.”

“I'm...” Onyx then began to strike her body with his sword. Every strike brought bliss. He began smiling and laughing. After three years he finally killed her. He cut her head off and took it with him. He exited the dungeon and made his way outside. He looked around and decided to torch the place. He set fire to every single building until he came to the barracks. He went inside, and saw that a picture was still there one with all of them gathered and smiling.

He focused on the girl with long black hair and black eyes. “When I find you Embry I’m gonna kill you.”

He broke the frame and took the picture with him. Finally he torched the rest of the keep. He grabbed a pike from the armory and put her head in display.

“Now every time people walk here they will see you for what you really are. It's less than what you deserve.” Then he began to make his way back to the village smiling to himself all the while.
