EXPO/CON 2015! :D http:///user/RazorBladeMistress/profile/ Guten tag (no, I don't actually speak German)! As you you probably have already guessed, I enjoy writing (and reading, but they do fall hand in hand). I have a soft spot for Poe, Nabokov, Steinbeck, Burgess, Ellison, and Orwell. As a child I enjoyed Poe (with a dictionary open next to me since I was confused by more than half of the words XD), Avi, Gary Pulsen, and Daniel Handler (under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket). Anime-wise I'm particularly attached to (since I don't feel like listing everything) "Hunter x Hunter" (obviously), "No Game No Life", "Serial Experiments Lain", "Puella Magi Madoka Magica", "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann", "Now and Then, Here and There", "Cowboy Bebop", "Space Dandy" (no, that's not a joke), "FMA", "Attack On Titan", "Kill La Kill", "FLCL", "Parasyte", "Berserk", "Magi", "Steins;Gate", "Evangelion" ... When I was a kid I was pretty gaga for "Pokemon" and "Sailor Moon" (though the nostalgia factor did not hold up... they are worlds better subbed, to be fair). I watch all anime these days with subtitles as opposed to dubs. I have to say, whoever decided that the girl that just screams in the old "Care Bears" television series would be perfect in the lead role for their dub of SM needs a good, swift kick in the ass. -_- Television shows I watch religiously or even just repeatedly (though not actually on the television) are "Peep Show", "Rick and Morty", "Check It Out", "The Eric Andre Show", Toast of London", "The Mighty Boosh", "Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy", "Snuff Box", "Steven Universe, "Adventure Time", "Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories", and "Flight of the Conchords". Yes, I watch t.v. shows almost solely to laugh, with a few exceptions here and there. I spent quite a few years obsessed with horror movies (I've seen all the Wes Craven and John Carpenter classics XD). Takashi Miike trumps them all... enough said. Alejandro Jodorowsky is my go-to for surrealist films. Recently I watched the documentary on his making of (or rather, not making of) "Dune" and I found him to be a breath of fresh air. Jodorowsky has such an inspiring way of viewing movies and literature, and I feel like he's the kind of guy that can push me to become a better writer and to realize my artistic vision(s) without holding back or allowing others to set my restrictions for me. If you ever get a chance to see that documentary, check it out. It's absolutely worth the watch! As far as music goes, my taste is pretty eclectic. I enjoy classic punk music and metal (I used to be quite the metalhead back in the day XD), but there are particular pop and rap songs (think "Public Enemy" or "Tyler the Creator") that I enjoy as well. MSI-style electronica is always a viable option, as is classic rock or even classical (I'm a huge fan of Vivaldi). Likewise, I also have days where I will binge on 1920's music, "big band", or doo-wop. It's hard to go wrong with jazz, soul, or blues. Frank Zappa is my absolute favorite, and I'm constantly in awe of his genre-jumping brilliance as a composer. R.I.P. Also R.I.P. David Bowie. I didn't know you in person, of course, but I felt that through your music somehow I knew you personally. Losing you is like losing a childhood friend that stuck around through adulthood. You'll be dearly missed. |
