Author has written 5 stories for Great Mouse Detective, Once Upon a Forest, Animaniacs, An American Tail, Secret of NIMH, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

I'm a novelist and a grad student in creative writing. When I'm not trying to live up to my MFA program's lofty literary standards, I like to write fan fiction about cartoon mice. To me fan fiction is good writing practice, but it is sort of a just-for-fun side endeavor in comparison to my original writing. I do however like to give my fan fiction some literary merit, with real character development and even the occasional message or social commentary. I enjoy looking at the sort of cartoons I grew up with through a more adult perspective. I personally see fan fiction as audiences taking stories back from the corporations that own and control them; a response to the creative leash of copyright law. After all, in ancient times anyone could and did tell new stories about their gods and mythology or what have you. What's changed?

I have a deviantArt account under the user name 'Surenity', what I upload here will be stuff from there. I had an account here years ago with a couple fan fics, but I can't remember the password. At any rate, hope you all enjoy my work, I can take critiques and I appreciate reviews. The best way to contact me is to either PM me here or go to my deviantArt account. I suppose I'll include some tidbits about myself.

News and Updates:

11/15/2017: The plan is coming along. I've revised Olivia Goes West top to bottom (mostly tiny fixes, like grammar, past tense, overused phrases and the like), and now it's time for The Great Mouse Reporter. I'm reading the early chapters for the first time in a couple years; they're about past due for some sprucing up. See below for details on The Plan.

10/2/2017: The Plan: I would like to get into fan fiction again. I know The Great Mouse Reporter is like 1-2 chapters away from being done, sorry to keep you all waiting, but at this point in order to even write those chapters I'm going to need to re-read the whole story. So this is THE PLAN: I am going to go through the series top to bottom, re-read it, edit it, and post new versions of the chapters. I just finished re-reading and revising Basil's American Tail (don't worry Fanfiction.net, it's still "copyright friendly", don't delete it). I fixed typos, re-worded sections, revised Basil's backstory to be less Batman-like (funny how whatever you write can make you cringe 6 years later, lol). Next I'll look at "Olivia Goes West" again like I did two years ago and revise it if need be. Then, it will be The Great Mouse Reporter's turn. I'm going to re-edit and revise from the first chapter on, and then, finish it once and for all.

In other news, I do also want to continue "Whatever Happened to Slappy Squirrel", and will once the previous business is taken care of. In light of the recent remakes of Duck Tales and other shows, which I had no idea were coming when I started the fan fiction, I'm going to have to place the story solidly in 2014, before they came out.

1/8/2016: Hi everyone. I'm not dead, still working on my fanfics little by little. My job writing descriptions for jewelry and other products for an online store has just been a creative drain on me, plus I'm sending queries to literary agents for my original novel and that takes time too since every agent wants something a little different. The next chapter to "Whatever Happened to Slappy Squirrel" will be out shortly, then I'll work on the next chapter to "The Great Mouse Reporter". I just don't have as much time on my hands as I used to, unfortunately.

8/19/2015: I recently re-read "Olivia Goes West". I've found that the prologue is kind of unnecessary in retrospect; it's better to let the reader unravel the mystery along with the characters than have it all laid out for them in the beginning. So, I deleted it. I'll probably leave it on DeviantArt though. I've also done other extensive edits; I've added Sweet William and his gang from "Fievel's American Tails" into the mix, changed a scene in Chapter 11 so that it makes more sense why Fievel and Olivia go off on their own, changed the names of the orphans to their canonical names from the storyboards (Pee-Wee wasn't my idea, so you know), and fixed some grammar.

7/3/2015: Re-read "Abigail and the Rats of NIMH" from its original word document and decided to edit several chapters, getting rid of typos and rephrasing a few sections. I have posted the updates here.
