![]() Author has written 25 stories for Community, and Supernatural. BLANKET DISCLAIMER: I own none of the characters or content that is recognizable and make no profit from the fanworks in which characters and other recognizable content is used. My intended use of recognizable characters and content is for entertainment purposes only and are intended as transformative works based on characters and content created and owned by others. No copyright infringement is intended. I am a really, really big fan of NBC's Community. I read/watch many other shows and fandoms but Community is the only one in which I've decided to try writing. I just started writing, actually, after very briefly trying my hand years and years ago so I'm open to feedback! If you would like to find me elsewhere: LJ and AO3 I don't have a beta so any stories published may have errors, in which case, they are entirely my own. I just started a new LJ community called fic4community where writers (and readers) can gather to share ideas and support around writing Community fic. If you're interested, please feel free to go check it out here! So I've been reading about things like RaceFail '09 (a series of links collected by rydra_wong here) and a bunch of stuff about a Supernatural J2 big bang fic that was also problematically riddled with racism (a series of links collected by amazonziti here) and it's made me think. I try to be aware of racial and cultural implications when I write. Sometimes I fail. I try to be aware of misogyny and gender issues. Sometimes I fail. I try to be sex positive in my writing. Sometimes I fail. I try to be aware of any number of issues around racism, sexism, homophobia, gender norms, ableism, religious sensitivity, and prejudices/discrimination/stereotyping in general. Sometimes I fail. It can be really hard acknowledging when you fail in regards to those issues, as deirdre_c mentioned in this post regarding that whole SPN big bang. Granted, I've only been writing in the Community fandom and, save one story, my writing almost solely concerns a heterosexual white pairing. I'm writing this because I've been re-reading my own work and I've recognized little things that I wonder if I should change. Nothing major (I don't think) but I wrote briefly about addictions (not the actual experience of having an addiction or substance misuse problem) in one of my stories which involved dubious consent. I did a scene involving anal sex between two men (during an orgy) but these are topics that I don't have personal experience with and I don't want to offend people. I don't want to hurt people with my ignorance or lack of knowledge/research. Basically, what I'm saying is, I will try to be conscientious in my writing. But sometimes I will fail. Do me a favour, if you read my work, let me know if you find things problematic. If I don't realize the problems with my writing, I can't change them. Thanks.
