"The so-called 'gimmick' of my strip—the two versions of Hobbes—is sometimes misunderstood. I don't think of Hobbes as a doll that miraculously comes to life when Calvin's around. Neither do I think of Hobbes as the product of Calvin's imagination. Calvin sees Hobbes one way, and everyone else sees Hobbes another way. I show two versions of reality, and each makes complete sense to the participant who sees it. I think that's how life works. None of us sees the world exactly the same way, and I just draw that literally in the strip. Hobbes is more about the subjective nature of reality than about dolls coming to life." - Bill Watterson (in reference to his comic strip Calvin & Hobbes) THE TRENT UNIVERSE (TU): What is it? The Trent Universe is my own alternate timeline for the Kids Next Door universe, in which my series is set. The series overall is based around an all-new original myth arc, while most of the individual stories are based on unexplained and/or unresolved things from the TV show, which sometimes intertwine with the aforementioned bigger picture. Similarly, the series looks into the never-seen-but-implied-to-exist darker, super top secret side of the KND organization. But I can't be spoiling everything now, can I? Anywho, there will also been a couple of spinoffs/prequels, which provide background information on the new characters and storyline. The differences mainly come with what's new. So, what's new? My two main OCs, Trent Edison/Numbuh 81, and Numbuh 08. Their presence alone wildly affects the timeline. I can't say much about that without spoiling anything, but rest assured, it's all tailored to fit the spirit of the original KND universe. OCs also worth noting are Numbuh 522, Numbuh 419, and Numbuh 70, all of whom are significant. My goal throughout all this is to try and keep with the spirit of the show, though it's directed a bit more at the older audience--after all, we're all much older than we were when the show was running, yeah? Also, as long as you start read them in order, it doesn't require any previous knowledge to read. I'll list the proper order here as the stories are posted. |
