Author has written 4 stories for Avatar: Last Airbender. Hello and welcome to my profile. I don't want to bog this down with a ton of irrelevant information, but in case you want to know a bit about me, here you go: About me: I am a 20 year old male currently studying Biology with a Pre-med focus in my junior year of college. I am not really looking to be a writer, but I have some spare time and this keeps me entertained, and I enjoy writing. It has always been more challenging than other school subjects for me, and, as I found out when I started this, writing when you actually want to is really fun. Essays for school... not so much. Anyway, I still love to hear feedback on stories to know how I can improve or what I am doing well. Because I am 20 years old and a guy, I can promise you that if you say something mean about a story of mine it will not hurt my feelings in any way shape or form. I know everyone on this site likes to be positive and encouraging, but if I am doing something blatantly horrible, I would like to have it pointed out. Basically, if you want to criticize something in my story, you don't need to worry about sugar coating it. Writing stuff: This is the more relevant part of the About me section. Any writing I do on this site will be Avatar the Last Airbender or (and I doubt I'll bother with this) the Legend of Korra. This is mostly because I feel like I actually know the characters in those shows well enough to write them, and I am not a big fan of most of the other major fandoms on this site. I hated Naruto and Bleach, refuse to read Twilight, and wasn't a big fan of Harry Potter. That probably sounds grumpy, but it's just my opinion. This next part is kind of my personal views on good and bad writing. I am well aware that I do not fit the categories I like very well, but I never said I was good at this. ;) It is also not meant to offend anyone, but I suppose if some of it applies to you, you can think about changing stuff. Things I like in writing: Consistent style. An author needs a style to be unique, and all of the best stories I have read have a consistent, at least slightly unique style of writing. Good grammar. I understand typos and mistakes, but usually a good sign of a good story is good grammar. Also variety in adjectives is good. That last part was ironic on purpose. And yes, grammar is spelled with two a's and no e's. A decent plot. No, they are in high school and a band is not a good plot. Sorry, it just isn't. The only thing that even makes them the same characters at that point is their names. Humor. This is something I suck at writing, but I love to see. I wish I could come up with good jokes or funny situations, but I don't have much of a talent for it, so I try to stick to witty and sarcastic humor for the most part. I love some of the short, 1-5 chapter stories that are humorous and light, but I can't come up with any good plots for things like that. I'm better at taking a more serious approach. Things I hate in writing: Misusing your/you're or there/their/they're. I understand missing it occasionally because you're going too fast (I'm sure I do it fairly often), but if you're writing a story that you are putting up for other people to see, it is something you should likely know how to do. It actually takes five minutes to learn, and is really nice. Ridiculously fast character development. I don't know how many fics on this site start with Zuko and Katara fighting at the Western Air Temple and end the first 1,000 word chapter with them making out. I get it, you like Zutara. It could have happened, and there were ways to develop the story to make it happen, but that is not something that happens within the course of a single day. If you have one of these stories, don't be offended, but seriously think about how realistic that really is. Spelling definitely defiantly. I hope that's an autocorrect thing. The word is based on define, not defiant. This one is just a pet peeve, but it's really annoying. Mary Sue OC's. How many double bender stories have I seen on this site? I get that the idea is interesting, and you want to be Zuko's girlfriend or whatever, but if your character has mastered two elements and ten fighting styles on top of being the prettiest, smartest, and strongest person ever, it's not an OC. It's boring and will destroy any potential plot with your OC's overpowered-ness. Really short chapters. I have written some in the past, and I hated posting them when I did. If you have 38 chapters and 15,000 words, it is either a drabble series or you are breaking it up way too much. Drabbles are fine and fun, and one-shots can be whatever length they need to be to fit their plot, but an average of 500 words per chapter on a chapter story is just asinine. Lastly, poor dialogue grammar. It seems odd to me that this mistake is so common, but every time a new character is speaking, it should be in a different paragraph. It's not a lot of extra work, and it makes your story actually readable. It takes way too much effort to follow a dialogue without that separation. And that is it for my writing likes and dislikes. Check out my favorite stories and authors, as they are fantastic examples of some really good writing. Completed Stories: Save Me: This is a simple one-shot about Zuko and Azula's relationship. It's told from Zuko's point of view, as he remembers small pieces of their past and reflects on what he could have done to be a better brother. No Turning Back Now: Rereading parts of this it is hard to believe so many people made their way past the first few chapters. It is my only completed chapter story, but I feel like my writing has massively improved since the beginning. I still hope you guys like it, and appreciate all the feedback and favorites. Basically Zuko joins the Gaang in Ba Sing Se and the rest of season three unfolds with some obvious differences. It is a Zutara. Stories In-Progress: Inner Strength: Haven't updated this summary in a while. I've developed a bit of a... deeper plot than I had originally expected, so this story still has a ways to go. I'm really glad so many people seem to enjoy it, and I apologize for any and all breaks in updating. I get stuck writing some of the slower scenes and constantly put it off, but I am working on it. I have a skeleton plan set out for the entire story, which starts at Episode 4 and continues until the finale. It will not follow that storyline very closely, but it gives a good idea of how much is still left, and this story may end up well over 200,000 words by the time it is done. Way of the Warrior: A Suki and Zuko bonding story set in late season three. It's effectively going to be 3-5 short stories that take place over the course of the last 10 episodes of the show, and will primarily focus on their common ground, such as what it means to be a leader and their relationships with the other members of the gaang. This is very much a side project, and will be closer to a drabble series than a real story with a plot. Other Site-related stuff I am probably not going to be starting anymore novel length stories until the ones I have in progress are finished, and even then I might just be done to be honest, but if anyone wants me to read their story, to beta, co-author, or has an idea (5 chapters MAX) they really want me to try writing PM me and lemme know. I don't really go through the archives anymore, so the only stories I read are recommended or from people that review my stories, just to check them out a bit. Of course, you can always just PM me for kicks, to talk about fanfiction or anything else. I don't bite... hard. Seriously though, if you enjoy one of my stories and I am slow updating it, the best thing you can do is PM me. I won't get annoyed at all, and since I check my email all the time, I will see it fairly soon even if I am not on the site. I find that the more I am on here talking to people, the more pressured I feel to keep up with my writing, and the more I write. So PM me, chat, tell me to update, call me mean names, or just say hi. And btw, I can check profile traffic, so I know people have been coming here. That's it. Thanks for reading (if you do/have) and I hope you enjoy the stories! |
