Feeling discouraged by the path her life has been taking, Maggey begins volunteering at the local hospital. She learns of its mysterious terminal patient, who hasn't received visitors and is a rumored convict, and wonders if there's a kindred spirit in need of companionship.

Shortly after the events of T&T, a change in travel plans puts Maya directly at the center of a serious traffic accident. She survives, but she's left in a coma for several months while Phoenix takes on his final trial and its aftermath.
