The amount of abuse I've had to put up with because they won't let me moderate registered users is ridiculous. The audience on AO3 is also a lot more active. I spend hours writing my fics. Getting less than a 1% feedback is not what I'd call motivating. On AO3 they make it easier for readers to show their appreciation of your works.
