Author has written 5 stories for Doctor Who. I'm a Doctor Who fan. I can't say I'm the expert on all things Doctor Who related, but I enjoy the series. I've seen every episode since it re-started in 2005, and I've seen a few of the older episodes as well. I also enjoy reading and writing, so I figured, why not fan fiction! The so-called self-insert haters aren't very insightful. For the best stories are the ones that let you feel as if you're along for the adventure. They put you in the middle so you can feel the pain, the horror, the joy, the love, the wonder. Writers of shows like Doctor Who realize this. Which is why the Doctor bothers with human companions in the first place. By definition, companions are self-insert characters. I rarely bother to create my own self-insert type characters since the show has them there in place to play with already. Write silly, write serious, write ficlets, write drabbles, write a half-baked plot while focusing more on emotions, write a thick, in-depth plot while not focusing much on the character's emotions, make characters fall in love, in hate, hurt them, comfort them, throw them into the pits of hell and do all things in between. If it makes you happy, don't listen to what others think, just keep writing. Happy writing all! Update: I haven't been on here in years! I see I left off on one of my stories, and I'm sorry about that. I still feel inspired to write and may one day update what I was working on way back when. For now I may upload some new stuff. |
