Author has written 5 stories for Merlin. Hi there! A quick introduction: I've read slash fandom for years, and I started writing my own in July 2009. I have attended science fiction and fantasy conventions in Canada and the U.S. for more than 20 years. (Yep, I remember hovering over dealer tables stacked with 8.5 x 11" cerlox-bound paper fanzines when they were pretty much the only ones that existed. Thank you, Internet!) I should let you know that I'm exploring all sorts of different writing styles and topics. "Mirror, Mirror" is pretty much an innocent fairy tale. I love all sorts of science fiction and fantasy shows, but I'm most knowledgeable about Star Trek fiction - all five series (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT), all 11 movies, and anything else I can find. My crossover series "The Final Frontier" is quite popular with readers. You might want to check it out. o A quick explanation of fan fiction: Stories written by fans of a show/movie/novel, etc. are referred to as fan fiction. These stories draw upon the characters in a show, and the situations that have happened to them. Character development is less of an issue in these stories, as readers are already familiar with (and usually fond of) the fully developed characters. As a result, many stories don't make much sense if the reader hasn't seen the show first. I highly recommend watching at least the first episode of a TV series before you read fan fiction stories about the show. This used to be difficult, as the reader had to wait until the series "looped" back to the first episode. YouTube has nearly eliminated this problem. In the case of the TV show "Merlin", episode one is available in several parts on YouTube. Just look up "Merlin Episode 1 Part 1". After you watch it, you'll need to watch parts 2-5. Each part is usually 10 minutes long at most. The videos are usually low quality, but they'll help you catch up to the series. Finally, fan fiction almost always contains "spoilers". Usually there's a warning somewhere that specifies which episodes will be "spoiled" by reading the story before watching the episode. I recommend watching these episodes before reading the story, unless you don't really care. Cheers! |
