What I'm writing now:

I've finished writing fanfiction for now, but the news is not all bad! Maybe one day I'll write my own stuff, and when I travel (soon) I shall be blogging about it. So keep your eyes open. (Real life, relationships and university are all lots of fun, but they are consuming all my time at the moment.)

Well my name is Helen and I love reading and writing fanfiction. I have a number of stories up at a number of different websites. You may know me as helz_belz on mugglenet.

I love reading. This is obvious. I'm sure everyone on this site loves reading. I try and read lots of different genes but I'm a sucker for romance.

Writing has been developing into a passion for me. It wasn't a sudden thing, just something that has been building up over time. I have always loved telling stories (my dad once gave me a medal with "My Favourite Story Teller" on it. This had a lot to do with the fact that my sister won lots of medals and I won nothing, but it I like to think he knew from a early age...) and story telling has now developed into passion for writing.

I love music, playing it and listening to it. Playing music is a great way to relax and cool off, or to just let out frustration.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter will always be my first love.

I started reading Harry Potter when I was 11, it seams I have grown up at the same time as Harry. I mainly ship cannon. I can't help it. Harry/Ginny is my favourite, followed by Ron/Hermione and Tonks/Remus. I enjoy James/Lily. I believe Snape had a chance with Lily, but he blew it. I think Lily was never in love with Snape, but she could have been if they had stayed friends. Instead she moved on and ended up in love with James. Recently I feel in love with Andromeda/ Ted and started writing a fic. I read romance, as long as it contains adventure, conflict and humour. However, I still enjoy reading other genres, such as Dark/Angst, Marauder era and Post-Hogwarts if I feel like it.

Deltora Quest:

I adore this book series, as they have stuck with me though childhood and adolescence. I only have one fiction up, Branches, that is a sort one-shot about Leif's proposal to Jasmine. I could use some love on this story, if you'd like to leave a review :D

I sometimes read Merlin fics also, or any genre that is well written and engaging!

Things I love about fanfiction

The Culture and community. The fact that you can learn to write, accept criticism and grow. Authors who make you laugh, authors that make you cry and most importantly authors that make you think. The way that you can totally immerse yourself in a character, learning new possibilities about them through another persons work. Delving further into a realm of possibilities you never considered before. It can be as beautiful as Beatles music.

Things that annoy me about some fanfictions:

Bad spelling and grammar

Just let me say, I have no problem with spelling mistakes. In fact, I'm terrible at spelling. However, I feel in some fanfictions, the author doesn't even try. They spell characters names wrong , there are no capital letters and barely any full stops. Every second word is spelt wrong. I feel that no matter how good the plot, stories written like this I just can't read. People, send your story to a beta. Not only will your story improve, but you will learn so much!

"I suck at summaries, read anyway"

I hate writing summaries, but this is just plain lazy. If you can write a great story, surly you can write a two line summery. I never open these fictions.

OOC characters unexplained

I'm okay for characters to be out of character. But please, an explanation. Why did they change? Otherwise make them at least similar. Have they retained any parts of their personality? Otherwise you are just writing an original story with nothing in common with cannon but the names. Eg. Why is Hermione now stupid?

Climax that happens to early

No matter how tempting, after the climax the readers get bored. If you reach a point with a couple, make sure there is more conflict in the story! A story where everyone lives happily ever after for 12 chapters is boring!

Characters bi-polar for no reason

Mood swings are okay, but if they happen every single sentence it gets annoying.

Clichés I Love

James chasing after Lily

Time travel fictions when Harry ends up in his parents time or vice versa

Cliches I Abhor

Peter being extremely stupid/ hated by the Mauraders.

Peter is not as bright as James or Sirius. However, where in cannon did it say he was completely stupid? He was smart enough to become an animagus, even if he did need help. There are only seven registered in England, this is still a huge feat. Why would James, Sirius and Remus hang out with him if he was so stupid? Besides, he managed to construct a fairly intelligent and cunning plan in cutting off his own hand.

We also learn that Sirius and Remus didn't hate him in PoA

"You should have died for them...as we would have done for you."

Why would they do so if they hated him? Just because WE hate him, doesn't mean that James, Remus and Sirius did. We don't know why he deflected, but THEY trusted him. Him being displayed as stupid and hated is just wrong.

By the by, if anyone has read a good fiction on why he deflected, please recommend :D
