Author has written 8 stories for Pokémon, and Shugo Chara!. Update Aug. 2018: Just popping by to say hi to you all, and thanks to everyone who continues to find my stories! I sadly don't respond to many comments on the stories anymore, BUT I do still read every single one and love hearing from you all~ If you ever need to get in touch, message me and I'll try to respond if I'm not swamped with offline life! Thanks for being awesome all, and sorry for the inactivity. Love you all, and whoever you are that's reading this, take care of yourself! Old profile: My current avatar was made by me... I love ivysaur. If you're curious at all as to what fandoms I like, see the points below. 1. Anime: some really great anime that I love are Ghost Hunt, Wolf's Rain, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Attack on Titan, Soul Eater, Digimon (seasons 1-3 primarily), Princess Tutu, Fullmetal Alchemist, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Rozen Maiden, Death Note, Persona 4, Tsuritama, Code Geass, Black Cat, Clannad, Last Exile, Claymore, Durarara!, Kokoro Connect, Fairy Tail, and Shin Sekai Yori. Also, almost any anime movie made by Studio Ghibli. Also Avatar: The Last Airbender, though it's technically not japanimation or anything like that; Legend of Korra follows from that. 1.5 - of those, my absolute top picks for quality (especially in terms of character interaction and development) include Madoka Magica, Durarara!, Persona 4, Kokoro Connect, and FMA Brotherhood. 2. Manga: the Pokemon Special manga is amazing. And though I like the anime of D. Gray Man better than the manga, the anime doesn't go as far as the manga; thus, the manga is good. Same idea goes for Soul Eater. 3. Some other great anime that are still good, just not as high up on my personal list as those in the first point - Bleach, Naruto, Monster, Kyou Kara Maoh, Lucky Star, Law of Ueki, Kemono no Souja Erin, Steins;Gate, Night Raid 1931, FLCL, Magi, The Daily Lives of High School Boys, Gurren Lagann, Nichijou (My Everyday Life), Ano Natsu de Matteru, Kotoura-san, Kids on the Slope, Shiki, Angel Beats, Free!, Red Data Girl, La Cordo d'Oro, Sword Art Online, Ouran High School Host Club, Uta no Prince-sama, Guilty Crown, first season of Shugo Chara!, Pokémon, Eureka Seven, Black Butler, Another, Trigun, and Cowboy Bebop. 3.5. Some stuff that I didn't like or hated - 11 Eyes. Probably more stuff, too, but I wasn't keeping track of them for a while. 4. Favorite non-anime shows and movies: Firefly and Doctor Who. I also watch quite a bit of Criminal Minds and NCIS, but on a more casual, less enthusiastic extent. I love animated movies in general, though of course they differ in levels of quality. Some of my favorites among them are Tangled, How to Train Your Dragon, Rise of the Guardians, and Up; also, classic Disney movies have obvious nostalgia value. 5. My favorite video games include Pokémon (ESPECIALLY the Mystery Dungeon games), Persona 3, the Kingdom Hearts series, The World Ends With You, any Smash Bros game, the Zelda series (OoT, PH, ST, SS, TP), Fire Emblem (Sacred Stones, Awakening), and Yoshi's Island. And more that I can't think of off the top of my head. 6. Some of my favorite books are: Brave Story - by Miyuki Miyabe; anything written by Dianna Wynn Jones; the Bartimaeus Trilogy - by Jonathan Stroud; Les Miserables - by Victor Hugo; the Temeraire series - by Naomi Novik; The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster; everything that I've read by Tamora Pierce, which is only a small sampling of all her works; The Last Dragon Chronicles (the Fire Within series) - by Chris d'Lacey; The House of the Scorpion - by Nancy Farmer; The Neverending Story - by Michael Ende. There are plenty more series that I enjoy as well, but these ones are some of my absolute, all-time favorites. 7. I have a deviantart profile! http:/// I don't actually draw much, so mainly I just favorite fan art on there... But I do have a little bit of pokémon fan art on there (a couple based on stories that are here), so feel free to check it out. 8. Fics worth reading: Executive Decision by Cyri's Alter Ego - a great story based around a new recruit for Team Rocket. I really enjoyed the writing style in particular, and I'd definitely recommend this fic to any pokémon fans. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Defenders of Warmth (Novel-length Pokémon Mystery Dungeon fanfic - COMPLETED) Written: Winter 2011 - January 2013 General Summary: Several humans, each with varying amounts of memory, wake up as pokémon in a pokéworld that is rapidly changing for the worse. As they work to figure out who they were, why this has happened to them, and how to get back home, they'll explore both the physical and spiritual depths of the land, learning about legends and myths long forgotten by pokémon kind. They'll grow along the way, of course, but will that be enough to keep them alive in a world increasingly being consumed by a coldness so deep that it impacts even the soul? (Note - it is 5th gen-centric in some respects) Story Pictures - WARNING: Badly drawn spoilers ahead! Do not approach unless you have both read the chapter and are not afraid of spontaneous eye combustion! World Map I have several goals with this fic, what with it being the first I've planned out fully before beginning it. (1) I want the locations and environments to be enchanting and immersive, just like Fogbound Lake and other such places within the PMD series. (2) I want the plot to be very character-driven and, as a result of this, I will work on really making my characters believable and more in-depth than I feel I have in the past. (3) Though it will still be long, I hope to really work on pacing in this fic. No more pointless chapters for me! Or so I hope... (4) Work on motifs, thematic... things, and other such stuff that tend to turn good novels into great novels. In short, I want this story to affect you, the reader, in the same way I was affected by the PMD games themselves. I personally think that the PMD games are brilliant games with wonderful characters, storylines, and worlds, and I hope to replicate that in Defenders of Warmth. Double-Edge: Arrowfoot's LeafGreen Nuzlocke Challenge This is more something that I'm writing for fun than anything, as contrasted to my other stories (which are still fun, but I put much more effort into them, and they're a lot more work). Which isn't to say it will be bad! I've got an original plot planned, and Arrow is quite the fun character to write. It's mostly for my own benefit so I can get more out of my Nuzlocke run, but I hope you enjoy it as well. :) Update 9/8/2013, though you probably realized before now - this story is on hiatus, possible permanent. Which is normally something I don't do, but this was supposed to be a much more lax story from the beginning. More for my enjoyment than yours, admittedly. That being said, I do like the story line and might restart it if I ever have time, though I will finish the run first and discard my special rules before this happens. The rules were just making it too complicated, and it no longer felt in the spirit of the game. Taking the Plunge (A collection of flash fiction) Premise: My writing club came up with this thing called Flash Fiction February, and I'm turning it into Fan Flash Fiction February. Chapters will be a thousand words or less, and each will be based on OC's. I'm hoping to make these all feel like Flash Fiction that just happens to take place in the pokémon world, rather than fanfiction that just happens to be under one hundred words. The point being, I don't intend to make these particularly pokémon-centric, though pokémon will, of course, play roles in every story. I didn't get very far in the challenge, but I'll nonetheless keep this fic up so that I can add any short stories that I end up writing in the future. The Language of Life (novel-length COMPLETED pokémon fanfic) Written: Summer 2010 - Fall 2011 General Summary: Based primarily in the Johto region, The Language of Life follows the journey of eighteen-year-old Eve Addamson, a girl with the unique ability of talking to and understanding pokémon. Along with Basil, the pichu she has been friends with for years, she will learn more than she ever wanted to know about the politics, legends, and religions of her world. But as she becomes more and more involved in the workings of her region, she finds that her safety is quickly disappearing. Though she will undoubtedly gain many allies - both pokémon and human - throughout her journey, will it be enough to protect from the fate that history would give her? Random info about the workings of the story: 1. Pokémon are food for both humans and each other, though all are technically capable of sustaining themselves with berries/apricorns and/or regular plants. 2. As mentioned before the first chapter, tildes are used to indicate pokémon speech, italics are used to indicate thoughts of Eve and telepathy, and a line of colons indicates a time break between passages in the story. 3. Don't even try to work out how this story interlinks to the plots of the games, the manga, or the anime. I don't even know how they exactly fit together. Characters, events, and other such things from the various pokémon media will be used and referenced, but sometimes altered for the purpose of the story. I can tell you that the events of Pokémon Pearl Version occurred some number of years ago in their entirety, but other than that, you'll need to pay attention to how seemingly familiar events are described in the story. 4. Though Eve communicates with words, pokémon do not communicate back in a similar manner. Their system of communication is one based on instinct; words are not necessary because they simply know what another pokémon (or a human, for that matter) is meaning to say. Nonetheless, I will oftentimes use speech tags (i.r. Of course, Basil said) for simplicity's sake. 5. The ancient language of Johto region (referred to as the unown-script language, due to the fact that the unown letters are the only records that modern day has of the language) draws upon words from many different real-life languages, including Japanese, Spanish, Latin, and Welsh. Just a fun fact. 6. FUN FACT - despite the fact that this fic was planned and started way before pretty much anything about Black and White had been revealed, it has a lot of the same themes of Black and White, i.e. the ethics of training pokémon and treating them well. It was fun writing this and then finally getting my hands on Black and realizing that it talked about some of the things that I was getting at in my fic. Not like it's exactly a rare topic or anything like that, but still. Spirits of the Past (a supernatural pokémon short story - complete) Written: Winter 2008 General Summary: Despite her young age, Jenna has already accomplished great things. With her beloved team of pokémon, she defeated Team Galactic, subdued the enraged Palkia, and eventually went on to win in battle against the Sinnoh Elite Four and Champion. She is bold, daring, and perhaps just a little crazy in some respects. Yet despite all her power and accomplishments, she has yet to realize what sort of horrors await her in the dilapidated mansion called the Old Chateau... Even with the combined powers of Cynthia, Gardenia, and a psychic named Evan, can she possibly defeat the spirits who hunt ceaselessly to avenge their deaths? Idea of the fanfic: What can I say, I'm a world-builder. This was written (or, at least, thought up) before Platinum came out (as you can see, it was based on Pearl), and so I wanted to explain every singe aspect of the mysterious Old Chateau. The ghosts, rotom, the items you find, the staring portraits and glaring statues - all have a purpose. Towering Retribution (a supernatural pokémon short story, sequel to Spirits of the Past - complete) Written: Summer 2010 General Summary: Two years have passed since Evan, Cynthia, Gardenia, and Jenna first explored the Old Chateau, discovering its terrible past. Now Evan has a new job in his hometown of Lavender, trying to investigate the mysterious happenings of Pokémon Tower, which is currently being renovated into a radio tower. He calls upon Jenna for help, but can they possibly overcome the lingering hatred of the injustices of both the past and present? Idea of the fanfic: It was a sequel to Spirits of the Past (since I loved Jenna so much), and it eventually ties into my full-length pokémon fanfic, The Language of Life. My writing style is much improved in this fic as compared the Spirits of the Past, though I still have a soft spot for the plot and intensity of Spirits of the Past, which I think might be marginally better than Towering Retribution in those respects. In essence, I was wondering this: how would the spirits of deceased pokémon act if their memorial markers were suddenly moved from their traditional home, to make room for something as frivolous as a radio tower? Not very pleasantly, was my thought. That's essentially sacrilege of the dead, after all. So... yeah. Don't go messing with dead pokémon. Not a good call. A Possibility of Evil: Book 1 (novel-length Shugo Chara! fic. - COMPLETED) Written: Winter 2008 - Summer 2009 Summary: Miyuki has never been the ideal student. Though smart, she tends to be a troublemaker. Life has always seemed just a tad on the boring side, with all the old ideas of nobleness and how you 'should' act. But when she gets expelled from her school and is sent to Seiyo, something finally comes along to spice up her life: a guardian character. With the dragon-chara Azami at her side and a whole new world of possibilities open to her, she has two choices ahead of her - give in to her somewhat evil craving for power and betray her friends the Guardians, or give up her dragon-like instincts so as not to hurt her friends. So just how far will Yamada Miyuki go for power? General Themes and Ideas of the Fanfic: A Possibility of Evil focuses mainly on Miyuki as she tries to make that choice between friends and power. As an author, I tend to favor action and adventure over other things, but there is some romance. Much Easter involvement, and it tends to have the villains showing up a lot, probably due to the fact that Miyuki herself is a villain to some extent. A lot of focus on the importance of dreams, since that is a main theme of the show, as well as the sometimes blurry line between good and evil. Also, dragon-centric. And here's a picture of Azami that The Writing Artist was awesome enough to make!!!!!! Here's the link to the pic on her deviantart account: Azami Picture. Thanks so much!!!!! It was so amazing of you to do that!!!! A Possibility of Evil: Book 2 (Continuation of Book 1 - COMPLETED) Written: Summer 2009 - Fall 2009 *hiatus* Summer 2011 - Fall 2011 Summary: A couple months have passed since Azami hatched, and Miyuki has been leading an eventful life. She now has the power she has always craved, as well as friends that she no longer wishes to betray. But as Easter becomes more bold in its search for the Embryo, this balance between friendship and power will tip, and one may have to fall. When the choice finally comes, will Miyuki follow her dreams or her conscience? For that matter, will she even get to choose? Author's note concerning Book 2, and the story as a whole: As many of you who read as I was updating already know, I put the fic on indefinite hold for over a year before picking it back up. As such, much of the story is not of the same quality/enthusiasm as it was earlier on. See in-chapter author's notes for more details on this matter. But the point I'm trying to make is, this isn't my best work, so forgive me for that. Nonetheless, if you like Book 1, there's still a decent chance you'll like this nonetheless, so don't let this silly note discourage you. :) On that same note, my writing style and preferences have changed a LOT since I began this story halfway through my sophomore year of high school. There's a lot of stuff I like about it still, but there's also a lot of major changes I'd make to the story in retrospect. Even the lattermost chapters are not very representative of my current writing, since they had to continue in the same sort of voice/writing style that I had three years ago. If you ever read this fic and don't like it much, I nonetheless encourage you to try some of my other fics, namely The Language of Life and Defenders of Warmth. There's a good chance that, even if you don't like my writing in A Possibility of Evil, you'll still like my other works. |
