![]() Author has written 13 stories for Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Lord of the Flies. Hi. I'm WCMD. I want to take some time and apologize for my long absence. Despite my update promising that I was back and into the swing of things, it's been two years since I updated a story. I have no excuses for this, and I apologize with all my heart for misleading you, my readers. I've said that before, and it keeps happening. Truthfully I don't know how long I'm back; I have a couple of ideas I want to toy with, but I can't promise I'll keep up with them, or that it won't be another two or more years until I get back to them again. I'm going to take this opportunity to walk you through my current projects, some insights into what I was thinking when I wrote/when I am writing them, and what their current status is. Harry Potter 30 Shades of Brilliant - Writing chapter 15 This is probably the story I'm most proud of, and it's the one that consistently grabs my attention again. It started as a self-imposed challenge, based around the "30 Days of Character Development" Tumblr prompt - for each day of September 2012 (Hermione's birth month), I would post a short story that answered the prompt for the day, and revealed something about Hermione's character. It only took be a week before I couldn't keep up with the timing any more, and I updated sporadically through 2012 and 2013. I hope to start updating again, maybe even finish it sometime before it becomes "30 Years of Character Development." Adult Female - Planning/Writing chapter 2 A prequel to The Truth About Rose Weasley. I received a PM from a reader some time after I wrote Truth, requesting that I do a Teddy/Rose story. I thought the idea was wonderful, so I thought about it until I came up with a plot that I just couldn't let go. It hasn't been very widely received (And only has one chapter) but I really like this idea and hope to do it justice one day. Falling - Finished A little thing that actually came out of the duality of the word "falling." Falling can be a bad thing, like falling off a cliff or a building to your death, or falling can be a good thing, like falling in love. This story sort of came out of that, as well as the dream that features prominently (or as prominently as you can get in a 1200-word story). If you've read Falling, you know that Harry has a dream that troubles him deeply. That dream is based on an actual, recurring dream that I had many years ago. It's hard to explain how much that dream terrified me at the time, and I think it says something about Harry and Hermione's relationship that he'd be able to tell her something like that and she wouldn't think anything of it, except how to help him through it. I ended up adding a second part, although I'm no longer entirely sure why. I'm still quite proud of it though - one of the things that bothered me about canon was the lack of real consequences. My goal with Fallen was more or less to acknowledge Harry's incredible pain, and show him beginning to heal. Mad, Not Ill - Finished I'm still rather proud of Mad, but I don't have a lot to say about it. I wanted to write something DH-compliant, and something a little sad, but which had some hope for the future. Soldiers - Writing Chapter 4, eventually Soldiers is meant to be a companion to my first, longest, and most popular story on FFnet, The Final Adventure. It takes place in the same universe, although it starts half a century earlier, and involves the same characters and similar struggles. Soldiers will focus on three main character: Alastor Moody, Minerva McGonagall, and my OC Iain Menzies. It will start in September 1944, near the closing of the First Wizarding War (and the Second World War), with these three beginning their first year of Hogwarts, and my current vision is to see it carry a narrative of friendship lasting until their deaths. I want to make a couple of final notes about Soldiers. Firstly, I've taken quite a bit of liberty with the timeline. Most major events will be unchanged, but I've changed certain less-relevant things (like Minerva's birthday) to suit my purposes, so please don't lynch me for that. Secondly, I've had a change of heart regarding Dumbledore/McGonagall pairings; as it stands in my head, this will not happen in Soldiers. My intention is for some crushes to develop, and make something out of a couple of them, but ultimately my vision of Minerva doesn't need a man in her life to complete her being. As an addendum, don't read Soldiers expecting a romance; it's not one. It's a story of the bonds of friendship and how they can sustain us through any obstacle. I hope you enjoy. It's been a long time, but this is one of those ideas I can't get out of my head. I hope to eventually continue this, and make it all it can be. The Last Adventure - Lost at sea This story was the reason I got into the writing game in the first place, and I learned a lot from it, but I think it's run it's course. I pretty much said all I needed to say in my retirement letter for it, but the short version is that my expectations for the story are too high, I'm never satisfied with it. If you're a fan (and if you're reading this, that's statistically true), and you have any questions at all about what happens after the part I stopped, drop me a line. I love talking about my work, and I had huge swathes of plot and character development planned out. The Most Terrible Poverty - Finished This was a challenge fic that I'm kind of abivalent about. There's a lot I like about it, but there's also a lot I don't. I started writing this when I was in full swing on LA, and I was playing with the ending and the characters a bit, trying things out. Not revisiting it, but there are some elements that I'm re-purposing for LA. The Truth About Rose Weasley - Finished This is probably my favourite thing I've ever written, unless it's Mad (depends on my mood, really). A challenge from the glory days of Portkey, I proably get the most requests to continue this one, but I'm not going to. I'm satisfied with how it ended. Having said that, I loved the idea of a sequel so much that I just had to. Volumes that I prize above my dukedom - Finished An experimental story; I wanted to try doing a "bookfic", much like a songfic. The story itself I'm pretty pleased with, but the book excerpts could be dropped and diminish nothing from the story, which isn't my intention. Still don't think I'll go back to it though. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic III: The End - Stuck in planning limbo My novelization of a hypothetical third KOTOR game. If you're a Star Wars fan reading my work because of my Harry Potter stories, I advise you to check out the original video game series, they're excellent. Anyway, I did some dumb things with this story, but I've been planning out a continuation of it for years now. Maybe someday I'll get around to writing it; we'll see. Knights of the Old Repuplic: Highlights - Abandoned A weird little idea I wanted to try, a novelization without all the boring bits. Unfortunately that means character development suffers a bit, but I think I did a reasonably good job with it. Unfortunately, the ideas just stopped coming. Someday, maybe, I'll come back to this, but don't hold out hope. |
