A Perfect Pair Post-Mortem :

SPOILERS.

I thought of this idea back in 2016. The core concept : Ruby obsesses over a particular pair of pants, then discovers she's actually attracted to who's wearing the pants, not the pants themselves. (Itselves?)

And Weiss, the most fashionable person Ruby knows, would take Ruby shopping, and Ruby would be nervous, and eventually ask Weiss to try pants on with her. Weiss obliges, which leads to the discovery. Cue White Rose.

On the whole, I have two very separate stories that aaaaalmost tie together. The very cutesy, lighthearted, fluffy adventure in pants. And the dark, whole dead team, Grimm infested world, and anxious Ruby's dead mom.

Now, I tried to tie these two together with Ruby's conversation right in the beginning. HLLOW knowing Summer, bringing up old memories, yadda yadda. But it did not work as intended. At this time, I don't know how to make it work. If anyone has thoughts, send em my way, I'd love to hear em.

Probably 25,000 more words and a Sears catalogue.

My favorite scene is the entire battle scene. It's a little confusing, yes, and I learned a lot about translating physical space to the written word from writing that scene. Helped out immensely with Weiss' confrontation in the dorm room.

Also, the structure LOOSELY follows the Hero's journey. And as we all know, form and function must be in synch for effective stories.

On the whole, I am happy to have written this, and learned a lot from it. It's the first project I've ever completed and published. Not a one-off prompt answer, not a dream left to die in googledocs. An honest, complete story.
