![]() So, I have an idea for a magic system that involves a mix of spirituality and some science, but I need a second opinion... or a few hundred. Anyways, here it is. Alchemy, pretty much what it says on the tin, but it also includes potions and brews of the magical nature. elemental, the typical four elements, along with the periodic table to combine and make new spells. elm/ wond/staff/stick, basically, the user channels the desired spell within the user and releases it through the caster's wond or staff. kie magic. this form of magic has three components, the mind, body, and soul, each one has verious spells that have a lot more listings then I'm willing to admit. rune magic. basically, anything that is considered writing in some way shape or form are listed in this catagory. however, the spell is most effective when carved into something. Light magic, a form of magic that can heal, create solid light constructs, and is the fastest means of travel. dark magic. for those seaking to practice this form of magic, have the ability to speak to the dead, see in the dark, have the ability to create and use the serounding darkness around them. they are also able to sence the emotions of others through smell. if you guys want me to go more in depth with each class, let me know, and I'm trying to put each class as a part of the seven continents of the world, and I know that'll be a little difficult to do, but please give me some feedback and ideas. ![]() "KIE~!" is something one yells when hysterical. You probably meant "Ki". I'm also surprised whatever spellcheck you have allowed "wond" to slip through in English (Waar kom jij vandaan, Blankpage?). But this system is pretty bland. It's not immediately clear how (or why) spirituality and science are being mixed here. At the same time, it might even be more complicated than necessary. You have classical means of producing Magic (alchemy, ki, rune, wood channeling) mixed in with classical types of Magic (elemental, light/dark, chemical compounds), with no indication of which is which. This suggests that alchemy will produce effects different from that of chemical compounds or elements or light/dark, for example. I have difficulty seeing any situation that would benefit from having so many disciplines, and suggest simplifying it. (Alchemy, ki, rune, channeling-specific schools, which are different methods for producing elemental, light/dark, and chemical compound results.) 7/19 #2 |
![]() I see your point, and I guess it would be simpler to well... simplify a few things. also, Ich spreche ein wenig Deutsch, aber ich kann es nicht schreiben oder lesen, um mein Leben zu retten. Ich verwende dazu Google Übersetzer. Tut mir leid, wenn es nicht gut ist. 7/19 #3 |
![]() Oops, that was dutch, not german, my bad, and I'm from america. 7/19 #4 |
![]() I'm guessing without the aid of the Internet that it was Dutch/Afrikaans -- akin enough to English in a weird way for me to take a stab at it. ('Where come ye from then'?) 7/20 #5 |
![]() Florida, unfortunately, and I think that error was a mistake on my part. mainly because I'm phonetic when it comes to spelling, which is really weird considering English is my first language. However, I just think it's due to me never spelling the word or writing it out as a kid, I just spell it based on how it sounds in my head, and how my text to speach pronounces the words doesn't help either. However, I just got back into learning a few languages in my spare time, but I won't be able to physically read them. What about you? 7/20 #6 |

![]() That looks disorganized to me, so I'll give a bit of an intro to inventing magic, just in case it helps you out: To start with, if you want to use all those magic systems together (because each one is its own system), you need to define what magic is and have every outlet extend that. 1) Is it like mystical electricity? If so, does it have a source, or is it just around? If it has a source, is it finite or infinite? And even if it's infinite, does it take time to recharge in an area? 2) Or is it a series of effects with no logical cause? 3) Or does each system use a different magic that has a different source that reacts differently? Regardless of how magic ends up defined, are there side effects to its use? And why? //\\//\\//\\ To mix science and magic, you have to first make magic its own science (and possibly give it its own scientific fields of study). It needs to be repeatable. Then, it either coexists as a separate field that goes where the others don't, or a field that can be used to complicate/compliment the others. 7/20 #9 |
![]() Maybe also try not to overthink it. You only need those kinds of magic which serve the story and if you're setting up a school like Hogwarts you don't have to flesh out every subject they're teaching in the first couple of chapters. I'm trying to put each class as a part of the seven continents of the world, and I know that'll be a little difficult to do, but please give me some feedback and ideas. Like every continent has its own kind of magic? I'd be careful with that, because it could go into a direction in which you culturally stereotype people on those continents. Not sure I'm expressing well what I mean: like people from Asia would practice ki magic and people from Europe rune magic (while in real life those continents have so many different ethnic groups). 7/23 #10 |
![]() @OP, check this out: youtube.com/watch?v=jXAcA_y3l6M Brandon Sanderson arguably writes the best magic systems (I heard). The video might help you. 7/23 . Edited 7/23 #11 |
