This one is based off the song Safe & Sound by Taylor Swift. So if you look up the lyrics to the song or/and listen to it, it helps you get into the mood for this chapter. This one is going to be for Lily/Wes. It's not really AU. After Wes was shot, we are going to pretend that he didn't die straight away.

Safe & Sound.

Lily was holding Wes in her arms, tears streaming down her face. Wes was looking at her, and they both knew that he wouldn't be alive for much longer. There was no way to save him. And it was unfair, so damn unfair, they had only just found love in each other, and now he was being ripped away from her arms. She wanted to get that Seeker, and torture it to death for what she did!

"Lily..." Wes croaked, looking into her eyes. "You... you've gotta let me go..." he coughed, spilling red out the sides of his mouth, as if the red on his chest wasn't enough.

Lily shook her head. "I'll never let you go." Wes' lips quirked up into a smile, a smile that would have told Lily that he was going to be alright if it weren't for all the blood... all the red mixing with the dust on the ground of the caves.

She remembered when Wes had first come to the caves, he was only sixteen, so young. He had looked at her like a mother figure and she had found it endearing, seeing as she was hardly going to become a mother now with all these aliens taking over the Earth. She remembered that he had been scared of the darkness of the caves, and he had said to her. "Don't leave me here alone..." and her heart had just melted and so she had stayed with him, just like she was staying with him now. Only she wasn't a mother figure anymore, she was a lover. Everything was different now, and more painful somehow...

Now she knew that he was going to die, there was no way that he was going to survive, he and she knew it both, and she wanted to make his transition to the next life as comfortable as possible. She believed in God, and that he would give Wes another chance at life, preferably somewhere nicer than Earth where the parasites were taking over.

"Just close your eyes," she whispered as the sun went down, leaving whatever bit of natural light there was in the caves go. "You'll be alright," she promised, holding his hand, no-one could hurt him now. In the morning he would definitely be gone, but she would never stop loving him for as long as she lived, and afterwards.

"Lily?" He asked, his grip loosing on her hand. "I love you so much."

"Shh," she murmured. "I love you too."

"I'm scared," he coughed.

"There's no reason to be scared, everything will be alright. It's just like going to sleep, just close your eyes and you'll be gone, gone to a better place." She assured him. "Where you go there will be no pain, no unhappiness, and Walter will be there, and your family will be there, and I'll be there if you wait for me. I'll come after this horrible war is finished, and we can be happy there." Wes sighed, soothed by her words, he looked at her, his eyes slightly glazed, and he closed his eyes.

Lily cuddled him to her chest as he stopped breathing, and she was still holding him when morning came, along with Jeb, even though he was stone cold...
