Like to thank King os Seven Hearts for the new edit

Disclaimer: I don't own Kingdom Hearts or Overlord, nor do I make any money from this.

Well, here is my first fanfiction. I do love both the Kingdom Hearts and the Overlord games, and after reading YinShadow's Key to Evil, I thought to do one of my own. But I will not be adding in any book or anime charters (except for a succubus or two). I will just use Disney movies (or anything close enough to them), TV and RPG games.

Also, there will be violence and sex in this story. Don't like, don't read

Editor's note: King-of-Seven-Hearts here, once again. The author has commissioned me to start editing this story's earlier chapters, starting with this one. Without further ado, here we go.

The Awakening

In a black void, a teenage boy named Sora drifted through the darkness. He had messy brown hair spiked outwards and wore a black hoodie with short white sleeves trimmed in black at the ends, left open to reveal a padded red jumpsuit zipped up from his waist to his neck, ending in equally reinforced shorts flaring outward from the extra material around his thighs.

White gloves covered his hands with blue stripes over the backs and a silver emblem on the center of each, black straps with yellow buckles fastening them closed at the wrist. A few more accessories enhanced the ensemble, a blue belt fastened loosely around his waist, a chain hanging over his left thigh from said belt and fastened from front to back, and a thinner chain necklace possessing a crown-shaped pendant. Yellow and black sneakers adorned his feet, held closed over the top with belt straps instead of shoelaces.

As he stopped his descent, the boy began rousing from his slumber. Sora awoke in an unfamiliar place, getting up and looking around to see only darkness in all directions save the floor he stood on. Said floor was made of stained glass depicting a man clad in ominous black armor wielding a giant flaming battleaxe in both hands.

Running his hand through his spiked brown hair, the teen was wondering where he was when a thunderous voice spoke up—loud, but not shouting.

"At last I have found you, the one to balance darkness and be empowered by it."

"Who's there?" called out Sora as he searched for the voice's origin, looking around nervously.

"So much to do and so little time. But one step at a time. We won't start the hard work just yet, only awaken you to the power of your darkness."

Sora was very confused as the voice seemed to come everywhere at once, but there was no one to be seen on the stained-glass platform or void beyond in any direction.

"My darkness? That doesn't sound good at all!" he protested. "I don't want to be some kind of villain."

The voice seemed amused, "Haha, you needn't worry. Be what you wish and do what you desire. That is the point of darkness, to pay no heed to what others say you are. Now, step forward and claim your power."

With that, three pedestals appeared before Sora. One possessed a black-hilted great sword with a ruby in each side of its golden cross guard's center floating above it. The next one had a long staff possessing a larger unknown black gem fixed to the end. On the last was a massive black shield with silver filigree surrounding a sapphire and framed by a dark grey metal on the edges.

A beam of light shone down on each item as the voice spoke, "The power of the sword is the ability to rip your foes to pieces close up. The power of the wand enables you to call upon your inner might to smite your foes with fire, lightning, and other arcane arts. The power of the shield protects your minions so they can fight longer in battle for you. Two are yours, while the last must be sacrificed. Which do you choose?"

Sora thought on the matter for a bit. He knew that he was the type of person to fight his own battles instead of sending others after his foe to fight for him. With this in mind, the brunet answered, "I choose the sword and the wand."

With a shimmering chime, each item burst into light, the shield dissipating while the sword's and wand's essence flowed into Sora. The pedestals also lopsidedly sank into the floor before disappearing when they were halfway through.

"Excellent, now for a small warm-up for your adventure."

Suddenly, Sora fell through the floor as the stained glass burst into pieces that fell out from beneath him. But instead of falling, he found himself gliding downwards onto a similar platform with the image of a city half aflame with the other side resembling a mechanized city in the middle of being rebuilt. When he landed, strange shadows started to rise out of pools of darkness to take on imp-like appearances with glowing white eyes while twitchily crawling on all fours.

"The power of darkness lets one do many things. You can destroy and conquer everything you see and collect the remaining riches, or you can enslave the populace to erect even greater things in your name. There will come times where you must fight to get what you want, and even more times where you yourself may want to. Keep your rage strong, and fight!"

At the voice's proclamation, a smaller replica of the great sword from earlier suddenly appeared in Sora's hand. Not needing any more motivation, he grasped it and charged the shadow-like monsters. It felt balanced in his grip and sliced the shadows into dark mist with ease. Some of them tried jumping to avoid his blade, but he merely leaped after them and struck them down in midair while passing by. When he finished off what remained of the shadow imps, the mist that made them up dissolved into a mass of shadow that eclipsed the platform and swallowed Sora up, despite his struggling.

When he regained his bearings, Sora found himself on a different stained-glass platform depicting the same armored man from before now seated on a serpent-like throne surrounded by three beautiful and scantily clad women with gold all around them.

"The rewards of darkness include far more than just power and land," the voice said, echoing all around him once more. "All the riches of entire worlds will be at your feet, and many women will submit their bodies, hearts and very souls for your pleasure. Of course, these women's main role will be to one day bear your children so that your dark legacy will continue."

After everything Sora had to go through in the last few minutes, he'd had enough of the cryptic speeches.

"Will you just show yourself already?! You've taken me from my home, asked me ridiculous questions, shown me images that make no sense, made me fight against horrible monsters, and for what?! What is the meaning of all this?!" he demanded heatedly.

The voice laughed boisterously at his proclamation, "HA-HA-HA! You are starting to show the true spirit of an Overlord. Very well, since an Overlord must always be obeyed, I will answer you. Firstly, I cannot show myself since I have no physical form. In fact, you are not even truly here. As for the questions, they are to help you determine your destiny. The monsters are foes that you will be fighting in the future. As is your fate, after all—just as much as it is to be Overlord. The images, as you refer to them, are reflections of the past that may very well hold your future."

Then it took on a distinctly teasing tone, (bi)"What would you like this scene to look like, then?"

With that, the image on the floor began to melt and reform into a different one. When the stained glass finished reshaping itself, it showed him on a more traditional throne and dressed as a great warrior king with piles of gold everywhere.

The big change, however, was that instead of three women around him, his friend Kairi was draped over one of his legs while dressed in a small bikini top and what seems to be a very short skirt suited for a sex slave, both thin to the point of nearly being see-through. She even had a golden collar around her neck. Sora also noticed that even though she was obviously his slave, she had a very happy look on her face.

"Excellent, your dream is not too different than your destiny. You even have a mistress already."

At this he blushed a little at having his hidden feelings rubbed in his face, but the teen angrily retorted, "That's enough! I'm sick and tired of your games, just let me go already!" The brunet really wanted nothing more than to run his new sword through whatever entity kept taunting him.

"Very good, a perfect show of rage," it complimented. "Don't concern yourself, though; it is almost the end of this test. And after that, the real journey of your path to greatness will soon commence. Now, face your destiny and take the first step."

From out the corner of his eye Sora saw stairs made of light appear, curving from the edge of the platform as they rose to the top of a tower in the distance. Beginning the climb, he swore that time seemed to speed up as he cleared the steps in a matter of moments, the light platforms disappearing behind him as he went.

When Sora got to the top, he was on yet another stained-glass floor, this one depicting an endless pit filled with fire like some sort of infernal abyss.

"Your fate is to use the darkness as you see fit. All that came before you have used it to do incredible things; construct grand fortresses, obtain vast fortunes, command great armies, and destroy all their enemies above all else."the entity explained.

Then its voice took on a grimmer tone, "But in the end, they all were consumed by their own darkness and destroyed themselves. Will you be any different?"

With that, a giant shadow monster climbed out of the ground, appearing to emerge from the pit depicted on the stained glass. Sora's neck craned upward as its form continued to rise far above him, finally ending in short legs with its misshapen feet crookedly curling upward at the toes. The titan's upper body was disproportionally large with long, bulky arms tipped by sharp fingers and two skeletal wings made of darkness at its shoulders. A massive heart-shaped hole was punched through its abdomen to the back, leaving an empty space in the shape, and it possessed tentacle-like hair that wrapped around its face, save for its glowing yellow eyes being exposed.

Sora noticed the hair's crooked appearance and how it waved about in tangled locks as the monster stared down at him. Running his free hand through his own spiked brown hair, he muttered, "'Their own darkness…' Is that-"

The shadow titan immediately thrust its gigantic fist down towards him, the teen quickly utilizing a flow motion dash to avoid the attack. When he looked back, he saw that the blow created a pool of darkness where its fist still lay, summoning more shadow imps.

Sora wasted no time in quickly dispatching them with his sword. Knowledge echoing in his head, he knew that the monster's only weak points were its hands and head. So when it leaned back with its long arms dangling, Sora went on the offensive with wild swings targeted at its limbs.

But he suddenly felt an intense burning pain in his back and fell to the ground, looking up just in time to see several orbs of energy descending on him while he was down. As Sora was lying in pain, he saw the titan straighten again with its fist reared back to crush him. He closed his eyes while accepting his certain death, but heard the voice speak to him one last time.

"Don't be afraid. You fear nothing, as you are who should be feared. After all, you will be the Overlord."

Sora suddenly jolted upwards slightly as he awoke on a familiar beach and was startled to see his friend Kairi looking down at him, giggling at his reaction as her dark red hair stirred slightly in the ocean breeze. She stood over him in her usual outfit of a white top edged with lavender, a black camisole underneath with both short enough to expose her midriff slightly. This was complimented with a lavender skirt slit in the side to expose pink bike shorts, white slip-on shoes on her feet, and Sora blushed when the black choker on her neck reminded her of the collar from "that" image.

There was no way that voice could know about his crush. He'd never told anyone, not even his other friend, Riku.

"Sora, you lazy bum," Kairi chastised. "I knew that I'd find you sleeping down here."

"No, Kairi, I was just fighting these shadow monsters on some weird stained-glass platforms," he replied while sitting up.

"Oh, really?" she sarcastically asked. "Tell me more."

In his frazzled state, Sora didn't pick up on her undertone, continuing to ramble, "Well, they had these weird images on the glass. There were burning cities, and piles of gold, and you were there, and you were wearing a sexy slave outfit-"

And with that, Kairi hit him over the head with a slight blush and narrowed eyes, "Sora, you little pervert. Well, I guess you are at that age, aren't you?"

Sora, seeing her reaction, knew he had to change to topic fast.

"Say, Kairi, do you remember your home world at all yet?" he asked innocently.

"No, I still don't remember anything about where I came from," she sighed. "What about you? After all, you were found about a year before I was, weren't you?"

Sora shook his head, "Nothing. I still don't remember much before I was found washed up on the beach just like you. And I don't know much other than the fact that they say that I only looked four or five when they found me."

There was a tense silence after that, each of them pondering the mystery that was their pasts.

"Hey, Kairi?" Sora asked quietly.

"Yeah?"

"Have you ever, you know, wanted to go back to your hometown, wherever it may be?" he questioned nervously.

"Well, I am happy here. The people are nice, and it's really beautiful on this island," Kairi replied honestly. "Still, I'd like to at least know where I came from."

"I feel the same way, Kairi. Once the raft is built, we should be able to visit other worlds if the stories about this island are really true," he said happily, excited at the prospect of adventure.

"Hey, aren't you all forgetting about me?" a cold voice spoke up from behind them, sounding part amused and slightly annoyed as well. "I'm the only one working on the raft."

They looked to see their other friend Riku standing with a log held over his shoulder. He wore a yellow tank top with black straps crossing his chest from over his shoulders, white buttons decorating the ends and his top being black on the sides as well. A belt with a silver buckle fastened his navy blue pants while black suspenders with white buttons held up some padded pants legs that were cinched at the ankles with two small belts. Black gloves with thin white trimming and matching black wristbands adorned his hands while white and blue shoes similar to Sora's were on his feet with belt straps holding the closed.

"It looks like you're just as lazy as Sora, Kairi," Riku teased with a smirk while lowering the log to the ground.

"Oh, you just noticed. Okay then, let's go finish it now," she replied as she quickly stood up and dusted herself off. "Race all of you!"

With that challenge, they broke off sprinting for the raft still being built. As the trio of teens ran along the beach, they were ignorant of the tragedy that would soon befall them.

At the same time in another world, in a half-finished castle hidden by a vast mountain range, there came the sound of arguing.

"How did I ever fall so low as to where I am now?" a duck-like man in a worn-out suit and ruffled top hat lamented. "I was once the richest duck in all of Duckberg, and now look at me. Not one munny to my name and wearing this old suit. Oh, why did I ever team up with the likes of you?"

"Well, Scrooge, I believe your current meesfortunes began when everyone found out about your temple raiding on other worlds. Thus, you were forced to go on the run," a large and obese alien in a lab coat with four eyes on his wide head explained in an annoyed tone, his four-fingered hands sketching a schematic. "Just stop complaining already. Every single day you go on and on about eet, why not try to do something useful? I myself have used thees time to design many Gummi Ships for our cause."

Angry at being berated by the alien, Scrooge retorted, "Oh, who even asked you, Jumba? Plus, I don't see the value of your work when we already had Gummi Ship designs, and we can't build anything because we have no resources or even people to man said ships. All thanks to the fact that your new minions don't listen to a word we tell them. Try and figure out how to make some munny instead of wasting your time on pointless science and research that won't help us in the least."

"We all know that the only way any of us will rise once again is for one of us to be named the new Overlord. And it's clear that only I'm fit for that title," a new voice proclaimed through the hall.

A fat, cat-like teenager entered the room in black armor, his peach-colored face free of the black fur on the rest of his head. Continuing, he added, "Even when we were at the height of our power, all any of you did was stay behind in the tower while I was quelling rebellions and gathering life force."

While giving his arrogant speech, the cat person didn't notice a blue furry ball quietly rolling up behind him. It unfurled into a short, fuzzy creature with black eyes, four arms ending with clawed hands, back spikes and two antennae on its head between large ears. Jumba saw and smirked slightly. The new arrival grinned and grasped one of the cat's legs, unfelt through the armor.

"I deserve to be the Overlord, not your errand bo-oy-oy?!" Pushed off balance by the creature's deceptively strong limbs, he stumbled and fell into a nearby hole in the floor, "AAAAAAAAH!"

"Nice one, 626, that eediotic Pete Jr. has delusions of grandeur like his father before him," Jumba grumbled while rolling his eyes at the distant crash far below and going back to his designs. "Eet's no wonder his family fell into shame in the first place."

Scrooge huffed, "For once we agree, Jumba. Most of PJ's work was ruined thanks to his own stupidity, and now he wants to be the Overlord. Truly, only he could find a way to make things worse at this point."

As thudding steps sounded from below, growing closer in time, PJ ran back into the doorway.

Despite being winded from the fall and subsequent run, he growled at 626, "That's the last straw, you little cuddle bear! It's about time I crushed you!"

PJ took out a large spiked club and began to attack 626, but the fuzzy creature nimbly avoided each blow, even jumping over the club and climbing on the walls and ceiling to avoid the clumsy cat-boy. All the while, it taunted him in an alien tongue that only its creator, Jumba, could understand. Said scientist palmed his face as new holes were made in the walls and floor.

"Why, you little-stuffed toy! Hold still so that I can crush-"

A buzzing sound cut him off as he was enveloped by electricity.

"AAAAAIIIEEE!"

PJ screamed out for a moment before taking a knee when the shock stopped. A little creature wearing loose robes of a dull red color stood in the doorway now, lowering the remote that had been pointed at the cat-man.

"Will you all stop arguing already?" the creature demanded in frustration as it took off its hood, showing black fur with a white face, pure black oval eyes and a little black nose at the end of his slight muzzle. The most defining feature, though, was a pair of long ears with curved ends sticking up above his head, making him look like a rabbit.

Scrooge spoke up sarcastically, "How nice of you to join us, Oswald. How's your new title of Minion Master going? Still having fun making the minions (i)not(i/) finish the castle?"

"I've told you before, the only one who can command the minions to finish a dark castle is the Overlord of said castle, and that seat is currently vacant at the moment," Oswald replied succinctly, continuing to cut off PJ, who'd begun recovering from the shock. "And before you even start, PJ, the Tower Heart has rejected you many times already because you neither have the necessary brains or body of an Overlord. Face it, the only thing you offer us is brute strength."

Turning to the other two inhabitants of the room, he added, "Also, on that note, we'll need both Scrooge's black-market connections and Jumba's scientific expertise for the return of the Overlord. After all, Jumba provided our old master new kinds of minions to do his bidding, minions which are currently the only ones we have after we were all forced to run from the Heartless when they invaded the Netherworld Tower. It's a good thing that I built this large backup base in case the war ever went against us."

"Oh, don't fool yourself, Oswald," PJ interrupted, having recovered enough to speak. "If we're going to rise again, it had better be soon. Thanks to your brother, the Glorious Empire is back on its feet and will be a major pain for us in about a year or so. Also, let's not forget that the Heartless continue to consume whole worlds that we're going to need for us to build an empire strong enough to topple the allied worlds."

He stopped and frowned in thought, "Actually, now that I think about it… Oswald, isn't that just your dream? After all, you've hated your brother, Mickey, ever since he became the king and just continued to ri-"

Again interrupted by a buzzing sound, PJ screamed, "aaaaiiIIIIISSSE!"

One could hear the laughter from 626 as Oswald held up the remote once again, letting go after a few seconds longer than the last time.

"My brother just got lucky, that's all," he stated coldly before addressing the room. "Now enough of this idiocy; I have important news."

At this, everyone stopped what they were doing and regarded Oswald, even PJ from his position on the ground.

"Well, don't keep us in suspense," said Scrooge after a few seconds of silence.

Oswald replied, "After so long, the Tower Heart has finally started pulsing once more, which means that soon we will have the next Overlord to lead us once more."

Sora, Kairi, and Riku watched the sunset while talking about the upcoming journey.

"So, do you think mine and Kairi's homes are out there somewhere, Riku?"

"Who knows, Sora? But we'll never find out by just staying here for the rest of our lives," Riku stoically replied.

Kairi soon asked, "Riku, you don't like this island that much, do you?"

Riku sighed at that, "It's not that I don't like it here. It's just that this is the perfect world if you want to lay on the beach and eat food your whole life, but that's it." Then he smirked, "That's why if we truly want to do something meaningful, something great, we must set out on our raft to other worlds that will allow us the opportunity."

"But Riku, how far can one raft take us?" asked Sora, not too keen on going off into the unknown like that. He didn't really buy into the concept of a raft actually being able to take them to other worlds.

"You've heard the legend of those who set out on a raft from this island to search for other worlds and claimed to have visited them. This is our best bet; if not, we'll find something else."

Kairi soon asked, "So what happens when we get to the other worlds? What are we going to do, exactly?"

"I always wanted to be like one of the heroes of old. Slaying monsters, finding treasure, earning the love of princesses, and one day becoming a great and powerful king," Sora responded excitedly.

Smiling, she teasingly responded, "Oh, really, Sora? You want the love of a princess? Anyone in mind for that role?"

This caused Sora to blush red as a beet before he quickly tried to change the subject, "How about you, Riku? What do you want to do?"

"I guess I want to be a great warrior, the kind that everyone looks up to by doing impossible things," Riku answered while staring up at the stars coming out among the darkening sky. "And if there really are other worlds out there, then it means that the island that we call home is just a little piece of something much greater. Why are we here and not there?"

"I don't know," replied Sora with a shrug, honestly not able to figure out an answer.

"Exactly, Sora!" the silver-haired boy passionately exclaimed. "We need to go out there and find the answers to these questions, our purpose in all this, our destiny."

"Seems you've been thinking on this a lot, Riku," Kairi said in slight awe.

"Thanks to the two of you," Riku replied sincerely as he stood up. "You just coming here from out of nowhere has really broadened my horizons."

As they walked away, Riku tossed something at Sora, which made him stop to catch it. Looking down, he saw a star-shaped yellow fruit with a leaf on each of two adjacent points and a stem on the opposite one from those.

"What's this?" the brunet asked.

Riku answered, "It's a paopu fruit. Share it with someone, and they'll be with you forever, your fates tied to one another."

Images of Kairi filled Sora's mind as he looked at the fruit.

"Hey, Sora it's time to go back to the mainland!" the girl in question called out, snapping him out of his trance and making him look to see her waving him over from the pier. Sora also saw that Riku was already halfway across the beach.

"Wait up!" he called out as he ran after them. His thoughts were occupied that night with being on other worlds, the star-shaped fruit now in his pocket and the girl he had feelings for.

On another note, while the titan Heartless, Darkside, is revealed to be a more generic Heartless than it first seems, Sora himself didn't know that. And this was right after being told about his predecessors' darkness "consuming" them. He drew conclusions.
