Katerina.
"Okay, you have to understand, I only know what I've picked up over the years and I don't know what's true and what's not. That's the problem with all this vampire mythology crap – but Klaus? I know he's real."
Rose was convinced she was stupid. Going back to the people who wanted to kill her after she took Elena Gilbert – and unintentionally the Wand-wielder? What kind of stupid person did that? But she had nowhere else to go.
Trevor was dead
Gone.
And she was alone.
What did she have to lose if she told them about Klaus and the Originals? Her life? Her life was nothing without her family, without Trevor.
"Who is he?"
"He's one of the Originals, he's a legend." Damon answered rolling his eyes. He clearly didn't believe in the Originals one bit.
"From the first generation of vampires." Stefan continued.
"Like Elijah?" Leya questioned interested.
"No." Rose replied, her head was turned to Leya but she still wouldn't meet her eyes. "Elijah was the Easter bunny compared to Klaus, he's a foot soldier. Klaus is the real deal."
"Klaus is known to be the oldest." Stefan elaborated.
"Okay, so you're saying that the oldest vampire in the history of the time is coming after me?" Elena's voice was steady and laced with disbelief but her raised heartbeat gave her fear away.
"Yes." Rose confirmed.
"No." Stefan countered giving Elena a reassuring look as if that made what Rose said mean nothing.
"What they're saying is, I mean if what she's saying is true -" Damon began, hoping to bring some kind of calm to the storm that was brewing in Elena's mind.
"Which it is." Rose cut in.
"And you're not saying it so I don't kill you -" Damon glared.
"Which I'm not."
"Then we're looking at a solid… maybe."
"Elijah's dead, right?" Leya spoke looking around. "I'm pretty sure there's no coming back from a wooden coat hanger shoved into your heart. So no one else even knows that Elena exists."
"Not that you know of." Rose muttered but she said it loud enough for everyone to hear.
"That's not helping." Damon glared at Rose.
"Look, I've never even met anyone who's laid eyes on him. I mean, we're talking centuries of truth mixed with fiction. We don't know if he's real. For all we know he could just be some sort of stupid bed time story." Stefan said trying to rationalize.
"He's real and he doesn't give up." Rose repeated. She couldn't understand why they weren't worried. It was Klaus. "If he wants something, he gets it. If you're not afraid of Klaus, then you're an idiot."
"Alright, we're shaking. You've made your point." Damon's sarcasm was easily detected.
Elena sighed and stood, she's had enough. She was kidnapped the other day and now her kidnapper was telling her that someone else more powerful and foreboding wanted her for some sacrifice she knew little about. It was just a little too much.
"Where are you going?"
"School. I'm late." Elena's response was short as she picked her bag up.
"Let me grab my stuff, I'll go with you." Stefan said taking a step forward.
"It's okay, I know where it is." Elena wouldn't look completely at Stefan or anyone else as she left.
"She's in denial." Damon stage whispered to Rose. He was, of course, talking about Stefan and Elena's recent break up.
"Shut up, Damon." Stefan immediately snapped. He didn't need it, especially since he was unsure of Damon's feelings towards Elena.
"Come on, Stefan. I'll get us to school." Leya spoke trying to diffuse the tension that rose between Damon and Stefan.
"Stefan, this is ridiculous." Leya complained as she rushed after him.
"You don't have to come with me, Leya." Stefan countered as he continued walking, quickening his pace.
Leya huffed as she too had to speed up. They had just gotten to school and it was absolutely ridiculous how Stefan wanted to rush out because Elena went home sick. She most likely wasn't sick at all but more overwhelmed, she would know since she had to go through a similar process.
"Stefan, wait." Leya grabbed onto his arm and pulled him to a stop. She's had enough. "I'm not going to stop you from doing what you want to do. All I want to say is that you and Elena broke up."
Stefan's face fell. He already knew that, he didn't like hearing it but he had to face the facts.
"You guys broke up. And it's sucks, I get it, but don't you think that instead of smothering Elena with over friendliness you should be giving her a little space?"
"I don't want to let her go." Stefan said quietly looking down.
"And I'm not saying you have to. Just give her a bit of a breather, so she can ground herself and find her way again."
Leya smiled comfortingly grabbing hold of Stefan's hand.
"Hey. Uh, I need to talk to you guys. Were you going somewhere?" Caroline didn't mean to interrupt but she had no choice if she didn't keep Stefan occupied then she would be letting Elena down.
"Uh, no. Not anymore." Stefan answered turning to Caroline. He smiled and Leya could tell it took a lot more effort than it usually did. "What did you want to talk about?"
Caroline blanked. She was not good at this.
She told Elena she was bad at this and here was living proof. She jumped right into the situation without even thinking of what she was going to say. "Um…"
"What is it, Caroline?" Leya asked and Caroline was tempted to run and hide.
Stefan she could somewhat lie to. Somewhat. Leya? She wasn't sure she could outright lie to Leya at all.
"I might have done something…" Caroline didn't know what she was saying. She was praying to whatever god would listen to a vampire that what she said next wouldn't give out Elena's current location.
"What did you do?" Stefan's serious voice almost had her smiling because clearly she was doing something right.
"I might've told Tyler I'm a vampire."
Thank goodness she actually had a serious problem she had to solve.
"Sorry to drag you both here but if I don't eat, I get those kill innocent people urges." Caroline took a large bite bout of her burger, before perking up with new information. "Tyler totally has those too by the way."
"Yeah, what else did you say to him?" Stefan's jaw clenched at how casual Caroline was approaching the subject.
"Not much." Caroline said lightly shrugging. "I was trying to keep the questions to a minimum. Are you mad?"
"Yes, Caroline. As a matter of fact, I am a little mad. I mean, you put yourself at risk, you put all us vampires at risk -"
"Including witches." Leya added. "We do have magic but, Werewolves can be deadly too."
"If Damon finds out..."
"But you're not going to tell him, are you?" Caroline placed the burger onto the plate and her voice took a panicky turn. Damon did some serious damage to her when they were together. The only other part she hated about turning into a vampire aside from wanting to kill people was getting her memories back.
Her toxic relationship with Damon was horrible; she wanted to forget everything that happened behind the closed bedroom door of her house. She especially wanted to forget the feelings she had for him because believe it or not Damon was actually sweet and had on occasion made her heart swoon when he wasn't ripping her throat out.
Stefan sighed and shared a look with Leya. "No, of course not. He would kill you."
"You're always looking out for me." A sheepish smile made its way onto Caroline's face. "The both of you always look out for me."
"You're our friend, Caroline. Why wouldn't we look out for you?" Leya asked with slight confusion. All she's known was looking after her friends, protecting them. She couldn't understand why someone wouldn't look after and protect their friends.
"You also don't exactly make it very easy on us." Stefan commented, and immediately after grunted as Leya's elbow connected forcefully with his side.
"Then why do you guys do it?" Caroline asked looking at Stefan and Leya. She could feel her insecurities coming out to play. "Why are you such a good friend to me?"
"I don't know. I guess you… you remind me of someone. My best friend, Lexi." Stefan's voice went quiet towards the end and Leya grabbed hold of his hand under the table in a silent comfort.
"I…" Caroline faltered. "You have a friend?"
"You say that with such a discouraging amount of surprise, Caroline." Stefan laughed shaking his head.
"And what am I? Chopped liver?" Leya asked with faux hurt.
"No I just… sorry." Caroline blushed and she was surprised she could still blush. But it happened. "Why don't you tell me about her?"
"I will, some other time. I got to go." Stefan brushed it off and went to stand when Caroline reached out.
"Wait! No! What do we do about Tyler? I don't want Damon to kill him because there's a full moon coming up and Tyler is totally freaking out about it."
"Okay, that's it, Caroline. You have all about two seconds to come clean before I find out where Elena is on my own." Leya crossed her arms and leaned back against her chair as Stefan sat back down.
Caroline bit her lip before sighing and dropping her head a little. She couldn't lie to Leya. "How did you know?"
"I know how good you can be at providing a distraction on demand and you found us just when Stefan wanted to go to Elena's house." Leya replied.
"Where's Elena?" Stefan asked getting straight to the point.
"I can't tell you."
"You can't tell me? Are you kidding me?" Stefan burst out quietly.
"I'm sorry but I… I can't tell you." Caroline struggled to stay. She hated it when she was put against friends by another friend.
"Caroline! Elena was kidnapped, she could have been killed and you're seriously not gonna tell me where she is?" Stefan hissed and he swears if his heart worked like a normal human beings it would be splattered across the walls in panic. Then again, that would've happened a long time ago.
"She's not in any danger. I would not have let her put herself in danger." Caroline snapped back defensively. Say what you like about her personality but no one could deny that Caroline Forbes was an amazing friend.
"Put herself in danger where? What do you…?" Stefan could've sworn his heart stopped as his mind came to a sudden realization. "She's with Damon isn't she?"
"Ew! No!"Caroline's revolution was clear on her face.
Even Leya was looking at Stefan strangely for thinking that.
"Then where… where is she? Listen, if you're my friend like you've pretending to be all day, then you'll tell me where she is."
Caroline was a little hurt at his remark. Then again he was angry at her and panicky over Elena. "Stefan, I am your friend but I'm also Elena's friend and I'm sorry but I'm not going to tell you where she is."
Leya sighed as she saw Caroline's plead to not push her. Caroline truly was a loyal friend.
"Come on, Stefan. I'll be able to find her easily enough." Leya muttered grabbing hold of Stefan's arm and dragging him up.
Once they were outside he turned on her. "How you going to find her?"
"Calm down, Stefan." Leya replied and pulled out a hair tie from her bag.
"This hair tie is Elena's. I borrowed it a couple of days ago and was going to give it back but I guess it proved to be more useful today." Leya explained as she took out her wand and wrapped the hair tie around it. "I'm using a Point-me spell. Basically it turns my wand into a compass. Usually it would only work for direction but my friend Hermione was able to figure out that it can be used to locate someone if you had something personal of theirs with you."
"Well how do you know if it's working?" Stefan asked curious as Leya muttered the spell and waited.
"I told you, Stefan. It acts a bit like a compass and it's already working."
Her wand which had lain still on her flat hand started to spin before slowing down to a pause where it was sure Elena was.
"Let's go."
Her shoes made a dull thud on the stone steps as she walked down. Stefan had called her up a couple of minutes ago telling her that he had gotten Elena home safely. Earlier that day as they were following Leya's wand Stefan had realized exactly where they were going and had promptly ran at vampire speed to the tomb under the church.
She had given Stefan and Elena some time to say what they needed to say to Katherine before making her way to the tomb.
Leya wanted answers.
She was done playing Katherine's games. She's had enough games at Hogwarts to last a life time.
Leya paused just at the entrance of the tomb. She looked around the dark interior of the tomb before she spotted Katherine gripping the wall as she walked to her.
"Well, well, well… look who's decided to join me." Katherine croaked, her deathly while lips cracking into the smile. "I feel popular today."
"Katherine, don't you look… sickly." Leya greeted back not at all phased by the glare Katherine was giving her.
"Come to question me too?" Katherine asked coughing deeply. "I'm sorry sweetheart but you're gonna have to give something up if you want information too. Personally I prefer blood, fresh blood."
"I thought you might say something like that." Leya mused tilting her head slightly. "That's why I came here with a different plan and don't worry this one doesn't require you to talk. You'll have to forgive me for the pain; I've never really done this before."
"What?" Katherine questioned confused as she stared at Leya.
Leya kept the eye contact and took her wand out and pointed it directly at Katherine. Katherine looked at her wand worriedly before looking back up into her eyes. "Legilimens"
Katherine started to scream.
It was raining. Leya felt like she should've felt the rain hit her skin, she should've felt the icy coldness sink into her body but she didn't feel anything because it was just a memory. She saw Katherine jog slightly past her and followed.
When she walked into the pub Katherine walked into there was an obvious change of atmosphere. Everyone was happily chatting and a couple of sports fans were at the bar watching a game of muggle football.
"Come on, mate! I know things have been a little down lately but we have to enjoy what we have."
Leya's breath caught in her throat as she heard the familiar voice of Sirius. She hastily pushed past patrons forgetting about Katherine as she came to a small table in the back. Sirius wasn't alone, he was with her father.
"Lily's at home with Remus reading a couple of books and whatnot she and the baby are perfectly fine. Come now, in a few weeks you'll be a father and I'll have to trade my friend in for a stuck up, responsible man." Sirius grinned taking a large gulp of beer.
"Stuck up and responsible? Me? Never!" James roared and laughed.
Leya smiled as both men started to laugh. Her smile however faded as Katherine sauntered up to them.
"One of you boys wouldn't mind buying a girl a drink would you?"
"Well that depends, love." Sirius replied with a grin. "If this girl promises to keep her vampire compulsion to herself."
James laughed out loud and everything started to blur.
"I don't know, mate. I'm really worried." James' disfigured voice started to clear up as the memory changed.
"Look the prophesy isn't certain. It's either you, Lily and Leya or it's the Longbottoms." Sirius soothed wrapping an arm around James shoulder.
"Besides, James, you know the order would protect all of you including the Frank, Alice and their son." Remus included.
The three boys were huddled in a little corner of what Leya realized was Grimmauld Place.
"You're right." James exhaled. "The prophesy said child, not boy or girl. There's no way Voldemort would think that its Leya, it could be any magical child."
"Exactly!" Sirius exclaimed quietly hitting his chest.
They all turned to look at the other end of the room where Leya realized her mother sat with Katherine. She looked a little closer and saw Katherine giggling playing with a child. It was her; Katherine was playing with her when she was a child.
"You're getting pretty serious with her aren't you?" Remus asked Sirius a small frown pulling his lips down.
"Oh come now, Remus is that such a bad thing?" Sirius retaliated grinning.
"No, I think she's good for you but you're not the one who has to smell her. And trust me as a werewolf the smell of death is not appeasing."
The three men laughed and everything started to blur.
When Leya came back to reality Katherine was staring at her silently.
"I told you, I know more than you know." Katherine said hoarsely, her throat even rawer than before after all the screaming.
Leya said nothing.
She turned and left without a word.
