Chapter 17: Simply Fate

Kim's POV.

Hopping out of my car, I tightened my coat around my body and shivered. The wind was light but bitter, especially for June, though La Push hardly ever had good weather. I slammed the door shut as I felt a warm hand take my cold one.

"You ready?"

"I think so," I replied, turning to Jared as he smiled at me. "I can't wait to hear the legends."

He pecked my lips, rocking my world even with the small gesture, and then led me onto the beach. In the distance I could see four huge men throwing wood onto a roaring fire. Nearby stood a woman, picking and straightening a table full of food. Jared kissed my hand as I headed for her, he went to help the guys with the fire.

"Hey Emily," I greeted.

She hugged me in hello, she always did now. "Hey Kim. Do you think there's enough?" she inclined her head towards the table that was full of food.

"Yeah, should be," I answered because, truthfully, I didn't know. The pack were practically garbage disposals, they could eat a table full of food each and still be hungry.

Embry came over then, kissing my cheek as he leaned around me to grab countless packets of hotdogs. Sam was stood near Sue and Billy with a small grill that he was cooking food on, the boys kept handing him what they wanted to eat and Sam accepted with only a slight scowl. I could imagine he was going to spend the right of the night with that thing.

After chatting with Emily for a while, I made my way back over to Jared. He was sat in the sand and pulled me in between his legs when I got close enough. I gladly leaned back into his chest as Quil walked past us with his arms full of wood.

"Are your parents away?" Jared asked as I basked in his warmth.

"Yeah, why?"

"Just wondering if you want me to come over?"

I blushed, knowing what he really meant. Since that day when I turned up at his house, well…we spent a lot of time in the bedroom. I was actually happy my parents went away so much. "Definitely," I nodded.

He grinned and leant forward to take a hotdog from Seth, who was sat with his mother and sister. I glanced at Sue, taking in her face as she stared into the fire. She had taken Harry's place on the tribe council and I thought she would look sad or tired, instead she looked impassive. She wasn't smiling or laughing, but she didn't look like she was about to cry either. Sue was strong, I realized, a lot stronger than I was.

Jacob arrived with his dad and pushed Billy near Old Quil and Sue. He waved hello before running back down the beach again.

"Where's he going?" I questioned, pausing from eating my hotdog.

"To get Bella," Jared grumbled and there was a titter of annoyance from various members of the pack. Paul, who was sat next to us on the sand, rolled his eyes and grunted.

"She's welcome here," Sam spoke up over the murmuring of irritation. "Be nice to her."

Not even Paul argued with Sam.

Jacob came back soon with the infamous Bella Swan beside him. With all the fuss Jacob had kicked up about her, I expected 'vampire girl' to be exceptional. But Bella Swan was a normal girl. She as pretty, but also quite plain, and she didn't speak to anyone except Jacob. Jacob seemed to be head over heels for her so I guessed there was something special about her I didn't see.

The boys relaxed around her after a minute or two, Paul got his jokes about her smell out of the way and then they all went back to devouring the food, root beer and chips.

When I peered over at Bella again, I noticed she was watching Jared and I. I wondered what she was thinking. When I thought about it logically, we weren't all that different. We were both in love with supernatural men and were thrown into a world we hadn't known existed. The only difference was that our men were completely the opposite. They were born to hate each other, one a wolf, the other a vampire.

Despite the stick she got from the pack for 'messing around' with Jacob, I understood Bella Swan. She loved the vampire guy and if she loved him as much as I loved Jared, I knew she was never going to give Cullen up. I wouldn't give Jared up, not for anything or anyone. Deep down, I knew Jacob had no chance with Bella because, in her mind, Edward Cullen always came first. Jacob wasn't going to give up though and I wasn't about to lose Jacob as a friend, so I stayed quiet.

With the warmth of Jared's body, a full stomach and the lull of people's voices around me, I started to nod off. Jared woke me, gently picking me up into sitting position from where I'd curled into him.

"The story is starting," he mumbled in my ear.

I nodded, ignoring the goose bumps that he caused.

The story was like nothing I had ever heard before. Billy told it like it was an unknown extract from Shakespeare, his voice beautiful and majestic in a way that you never wanted the story to stop. The images he created in my head were truly amazing.

When he finished the part about imprinting, I looked at Jared. I hadn't known how true and deep imprint love really was. Even now, after three months of being together as boyfriend and girlfriend, and six months of dating, I found it unbelievable that we were together. And learning just how much he loved me, how selfless and wonderful it was, it made me tingle. He kissed me when I looked at him, I blushed because I knew the others could see our moment together though no one said anything.

Afterwards, everyone was silent, mesmerized by the legend. Seth was the first to speak, turning to his mom with an awed expression and saying 'wow'. His mom chuckled and slowly, everyone started talking again. The fire died down, the boys too tired and preoccupied by thoughts to throw more wood into it. I stayed in Jared's arms, my thoughts on vampires and wolves and how much danger Jared was really in when he went patrolling.

Bella fell asleep around eleven and Jacob quickly stood to take her home. I watched them go, the girl who loved a vampire and the wolf that was doomed in false hope of her choosing him one day.

Soon after, Jared pulled me onto his back and carried me to my car as I called out goodbye to the others. We drove to my house, practically running up the stairs and into my bedroom at the end of the hallway.

I jumped on him, the reality of the imprint and his love making me even hungrier for him than usual. He tore off my top, his large, rough hands gliding over my stomach, ribs and chest.

"Jared?"

"Mmm?"

"Why do you think you imprinted on me?"

He stopped kissing my skin to look at me, his brown eyes dark with desire. "Why?"

"Yeah."

"I don't know, no one does," he said like I didn't already know that. I leaned down to give him a heated kiss, my head clouded with want and love and adoration. "I guess..." he paused, smiling at me in a way that made my heart skip a beat. "I guess we were simply fate."

I giggled, he smiled at the sound and dropped kisses all over my face. "I like that," I decided breathlessly.

"Me too."

"I love you, Jared."

"I love you too, Kim"

And, as we fell back onto my back tangled together, I couldn't help but think of the future and the past. My obsession with Jared that started when I was ten was because of moments like this. The imprint worked both ways, it bound me to Jared early on. I was meant to be with him, so what if I knew a few years before Jared did? I believed that Jared was just slow and needed fate to work its magic and get him to mature enough for us to be together.

I knew. I knew Jared and I were going to be together forever and, instead of scaring me, that excited me greatly. Jared and I married, our honeymoon, children, grandchildren, growing old together. I was going to enjoy every day with him, make sure I showed him how much I loved, cared and respected him.

And I knew he was going to do the same for me.

I supposed what Jared said was true.

We were simply fate.

Thoughts?

Thank you for the reviews, alerts and favourites! They mean so much to me!

...So, this is the last chapter of Simply Fate, and the last of Kim and Jared's story! My second story that I've finished, and my first Twilight! Wooooo!

If you like my writing or want to know what else goes on in my Twilight 'world', then you can read my Quil and Claire story, Always have, always will. If not, thank you so much for reading my story, and I really hope you enjoyed it!

Also, thank you for answering my question from last time! But I have another one (sorry, I'm annoying, I know), I'm planning next generation Twilight stories and they're set around the same time, and I was wondering if you would rather read a long story with multiple POV's, or short stories with only 1 or 2 POV's? Updates would also be different, for multiple POV's I would update more as I'd actually only have one story, but if I did 1 or 2 POV's I'd update less because I'd have a lot of stories going on?

So, basically, multiple POV's, fast updates and long stories...or 1 or 2 POV's, slower updates and short stories?

Pictures are on my profile!

Thank you for reading my story!
